That's all -T ------------------------------ Subject: Hello All You L42 fans From: "Dabbs, Steve" Date: Tue, 18 May 1999 13:13:25 +0100 I have been reading the Digest now for about a month and have finally got round to writing to you all. My name is Steve Dabbs and I live in South Ockendon, Essex. I am 25 and have been a big fan of L42 ever since Leaving Me Now was released as a single in 1985. I can remember whilst in a supermarket (Asda's) pestering my mum to buy me the single. Fortunately this was completely sold out so I talked my mother into buying the World Machine album instead. Quickly I became a big fan and have subsequently bought everything and anything I found on the band ever since. I have read various email's from people on the Digest advising they have video's of old concert's along with footage of Mark's recent solo concert in Birmingham. Can anyone let me know whether these video's are available in record shops in the UK. Alternatively, can I send you guys blank tapes in order that I can have a copy (of course I am happy to pay postage and packaging both ways). The only live videos I have are 'Live at Wembley' and 'Guaranteed'. You can reach me on my work email at 'steve.dabbs @ rbis.co.uk'. Alternatively I can be emailed at home at 'Steve_Dabbs @ realmail.co.uk'. Yes, that's all you get unless you upgrade to the G2 player, which is now finally available for the Macintosh :) ------------------------------ Subject: D&M suck, but their band's not bad! From: Deane Ogden Date: Tue, 18 May 1999 09:33:37 -0700 WOW!!!!!! In America (maybe elsewhere too - although I hope we haven't plagued the world with these guys!) we have this god awful show with these two annoying people named Donny and Marie Osmond. They have their own talk show that is on in the morning in the Pacific Northwest, but it is syndicated nationwide. (There's also another annoying AM couple named Regis and Kathy Lee - but that is worthy of a separate email entirely devoted to their destruction!) Anyway, as the show closed yesterday, I was unlocking my front door because I had forgotten a book at home that I needed. I flipped on the tube for just a moment to check the news and much to my disbelief and surprise, Donny and Marie's house band were playing a screaming rendition of "Almost There" as the credit were rolling!!! It was incredible! A note by note (minus any vocal) ripper, man! Complete with those great Lindup Moog swirls and everything!!! I'm just curious if anyone caught this little snippet of mid-day pleasure, or if it was just God smiling down on 'ol Deano once again. Hope all is well with everybody, C'ya soon! - Og - ------------------------------ Subject: 42 again From: "Ronald Kuipers" Date: Tue, 18 May 1999 18:52:20 +0200 Hoi all, It seems that it's a bit slow lately. Time for another good fight. Nah let's not. Just wanna tell you everytime I drive to the CD & Recordfair in Utrecht I passes this sign "UTRECHT 42" It's a reminder that I will not forget to look for some L42 stuff. See you . . . . . . . . . From: Jennie Date: Tue, 18 May 1999 14:41:49 +0100 Hi everybody, Just thought I would apologise for my absence from the digest, but I have not had access to the computer I use! So, sorry to any of you who have been expecting to hear replies from me. I have tried to e-mail each of you but have not managed to reply to all of you - YET! MRS PINK - Could you please contact me a.s.a.p?! Also, I'd like to say how nice it was to see you all at the Ryde Theatre gig, and Thanks to Winston for letting me have some of his drink - I was so hot I thought I was going to faint! Hope to see you all again soon. love Jen xxx -- ------------------------------ Subject: North Sea Jazz Festival From: Bruce Harfield Date: Tue, 18 May 1999 22:38:48 +0200 Hi all, Hi All, I've been silent for a LONG, LONG time, but seeing as the digest seems dead quiet lately... Bass fans might be interested to know that STANLEY CLARKE is playing at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Den Haag (Netherlands) this year. He is appearing live with Lenny White on Friday 9th July. Also appearing at the festival that night are Al Jarreau, BB King, Chick Corea and Incognito. Should be an excellent night to say the least! Finally, I may have two spare tickets for Mark King at the Jazz Cafe in London on Friday November 26th. Anybody interested? I'll take face value... Now that the early '99 Mark King gigs are long since finished, I guess it's OK to talk about the set list at last. One thing that struck me about the tour is that the set list for every gig seemed to be exactly the same. I'm interested to know if there was any variation during the tour. The standard set list that I am aware of is as follows: Hot Water Pamela Love Wars World Machine Bitter Moon Kansas City Milkman Changing the Guard Love Games Half Written Songs To be with you again Take My Hand Bass Solo (...if you were lucky!) Mr Pink It's Over Running In the Family Lessons in Love Something about You Encore: The Chinese Way If anyone witnessed a different set list I'd be interested to hear about it... Thanx. Bruce Harfield. ------------------------------ Subject: More NYC fest info From: Winman42 @ aol.com Date: Tue, 18 May 1999 17:16:58 EDT Hello folks. I have some more info /questions to pass along. 1. I don't think anyone has volunteered to bring or play keyboards at the Jam sesssion on May 29th. Can someone do this? I dabble in keys, but haven't played in 3 years, and no longer even have a board. As it stands we will probably have 4 drummers, 3 guitar players, and 79 bass players. 2. Jenni suggested that folks bring Level 42 goodies that they are looking to trade. That sounds like a good idea to me. So, if you have cd's, records, tapes, etc you want to trade, sell, etc. Please bring them with you. 3. Also, if you have any cool/unusual items, feel free to bring them along, as I'm sure folks would love to check them out. 4. I will have some customs CD's, etc that we will be giving away. So be ready to put your name in the hat for some FREE give aways!! Tcoy, Winston ------------------------------ Subject: Non L42 related! Last Call for Oliver Reed ! From: Vivient Gill Date: Tue, 18 May 1999 20:25:27 -0400 Hey guy's Just heard the very sad news that one of my all time favorite English actors has made his final exit. Oliver Reed at the young age of 61. Keeping up with his image of being a man's man, Ollie kick's takes a drink for the last time. I'll always remember him for his parts in the three muskuteers & Oliver Twist. He lived life as if it were a party. The best way to remember him now is to have another one & know that he'll be setting up bar for us on the other side. Top hat's off to a great actor a top bloke " Cheers Mate" On Level note See you Level Hedz at NYC International Rescue L-F
