Ironically, over the last four weeks, it's seemed that L42 has the one only thing in MY life that's gone right, and that's kept me going. Just before the turn of the month, I was alerted that I was being let go at CBS. I was eventually rehired on a part-time basis, but my money situation took a turn for the worse. The failure of my romantic life and my other difficulties making friends have since made me wonder if the world is passing me by. Thank God for the music of Mark and the boys, for the thing that has remained constant in this unstable time for me has been the sheer quality and familiarity of my "World Machine" and "Forever Now" albums. I even went back to "Standing In the Light" a few days ago and found out how enjoyable, soulful, even optimistic it is...not to mention well-played. Even the oft-slagged "Guaranteed" album brings me back to times in my life that I didn't have these responsibilities, bills and insecurity about myself socially and professionally. I'm sure other Digesters have had the same experience I have, in which L42 music has literally kept me going during a tough time. I just wanted to share it because of what those CDs have meant to me the last month. Once I get out of this 'funk' period, I promise to join the debate over whether Mark tunes down his bass. :) The Duke "...brotherhood is not so wild a dream as those who profit by postponing it pretend." And is Forever now any good? >I'm still trying to find a copy over here in Australia. In "Forever now" are good : Forever now, Romance, all over you, the sunbed song. I can make you a copy, if you want. In physical presence live, Mr. Pink he plays very well. 88 he makes a solo 3 minutes. >Being a drummer myself it's always great listening to Phil play, he's so >fluid and tasteful in all facets of his playing! Yes, I'm agree, are you heard how his "charley" is shrewd in fashion fever for example. The begin break of sandstorm (physical presence), true belivers or my hero make me enjoy this drummer. Gary Husband plays very well and he has a reputation but I prefer Phil because He has a futuristic style. I'm playing Bass and a little drum. Phil Gould give me desire playing drum. >BTW Physical Presence kicks >Cheers >Cameron regards. -- Paul MAJGIER mailto:Paul.Majgier @ Wanadoo.Fr mailto:mp @ deust-ishs.unice.fr ------------------------------ Subject: Urban legend From: Pat Flanagan Date: Mon, 03 May 1999 08:17:26 -0500 >Last night me, my wife and some friends of ours watched, Three Men and A >Baby, >on video (yeah I know it's sad), but have any of you guys seen a spooky >moment >on the middle of the film where there is a ghost in it? It's really spooky >when >you watch it as if you didn't look for it, you may have never have noticed >it. > >A ghost or a stunt by the movie people? Actually, neither. That's a cardboard cutout (like the ones of our boys in the RITF video). If I remember correctly, they used them to block out camera angles (cheaper than employing someone to stand in various positions). It was accidentally stowed behind a curtain, and you can see it briefly in one of the shots. The whole thing about the suicide was invented by someone along the way to explain the "ghost." Actually, if I remember correctly, they aren't even shooting in a real apartment, it's just a set. Sorry to blow the mystique! ____________________ PFPD -- newmedia marketing consulting a limited liability company PO Box 281, Granger, IN 46530-0281 v:616.663.2250 -- competitive business advantages through creative technology ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Voiceprint From: "David J. Loundy" Date: Mon, 3 May 1999 10:35:54 -0500 Please forword to Mr. Ayling Dear Mr. Ayling: Please allow me to address some of the issues in your letter. First, I have never advocated a boycot nor have I encouraged people to send you letters of complaint. I _do_ appreciate your support and encouragement of artists such as Boon. Although I will never again buy from your direct sales division, I will continue (albeit reluctantly) to buy albums produced by your company as long as you produce works of artists which I find interesting. However, you are running a business. The economics of your business is irrelevant to the question of fair dealing. You, and specifically Ms. Bowles, have not dealt fairly with your customers. As I have said since the beginning, this has been a matter of principle, not money. You characterize this as a fight over a typographical error. Ms. Bowles was aware of the error on February 3, 1999. I was told that the error on your Web site had been corrected prior to February 10, 1999. As late as March 26, 1999, the price was still listed on the Rock Relics Web site as being 8.99. Was it also a typographical error when I was told that the error _had been_ corrected on February 10? Was it a "typographical error" when you told the reporter from the New York Times in late March that the error had been corrected, shortly before the reporter pulled up the page that still listed the price as 8.99? You state in your letter that you have not had the opportunity to express your side of the story. Your letter to which I am responding was such an opportunity. Your conversation with the reporter from the New York Times was such an opportunity. Your sole message to me which reads, in substance, "I look forward to seeing you in court ! ! ! (that is in England by the way - long way to come for 8.99)" was such an opportunity. There is a difference, Mr. Ayling, in not having an opportunity to express your views and not being convincing when you have such an opportunity. As to your comment about me that "maybe he will get a life one day": I have long since considered this specific matter closed, and it is only with some dismay that I write this now. However, my life is as an attorney representing Internet service providers (such as the Surrey County Council) and Internet content providers (such as yourself). My academic pursuits are not a full time occupation, and they are not something I engage in primarily for their financial reward. The issues raised by our controversy (or, more properly, my controvery with Ms. Bowles) _are_ a large portion of my life, which is why it allows me to see precisely why your company's conduct is objectionable. Perhaps the next time you get your chance to tell "your side of the story" you will also share Ms. Bowles signed agreement with the Surrey County Council that the Council found to be breached. Was it a typographical error when she signed this agreement? Was it a typo when the Surrey IT security officer stated: The equipment provided to the Councillor was provided, under signed agreement with the Councillor, solely for Council related work. Upon receipt of the information you provided I undertook to review our Internet and email logging facilities for the specific issues identified, and have been able to confirm that the use made was quite clearly not related to Surrey County Council work. This private business was not agreed with the Council to be undertaken via our equipment. Mr. Ayling, I have made my share of mistakes, and expect will continue to do so in the future. I have also worked in businesses which involve contact with the consuming public. When I make a mistake, I apologize, set things right, and move on. Your company made a mistake. The typographicall error was a small mistake easily corrected. The larger mistake was that there was no apology, things were only set right upon confrontation of the Surrey Trading Standards Officer, and not only have you not moved on, but you have resorted to personal attacks. Mr. Parton's letter stating that he had his circle will not buy from your company is a direct by-product of your company's customer service efforts. The impression left by your letter in response is also a result of your company's customer service efforts. It is truly a shame for artists such as "Boon or Mike Lindop, Jakko or whoever" that your customer service efforts are full of more personal insults than facts relevant to the dispute which generated Mr. Parton's letter. He obtained this scar when he was attacked by his father's alsatian dog (Dax was the name of the dog), but Mark's dad worked for HM Prisons and spent three months training as a dog handler with the Metropolitan police, and he used to keep the dog at home. The dog was later found to have a brain tumour and was put down. After it happened, Mark didn't want cosmetic surgery as he thought the scar looked really cool! I finally got to see the concert vid. MK is just spectacular. I ve made up my mind, I am definately going to the November concerts. Theres just that pesky money problem but yep, definately going to at least one before the millenium. Ahh, now on to a valid ? I am listening to the Connoisseur Collection remixes of L42 songs. This is the only one I have been able to find. Were there any others made? If so, how can I get my claws on it? Someone mentioned in a previous digest where you could not get Changes. I would like to know where you could. Sorry I dont have anything to contribute but the digest has been kinda sparse lately so I thought why not Ciao baby, Joy "those easy girls dont turn me on, 'cause Im gay" ------------------------------ Subject: A couple of things... From: rotuar79 @ snyoneva.cc.oneonta.edu Date: Mon, 03 May 1999 13:54:39 -0400 (EDT) Hello everyone! I found a copy of "Forever Now" the other day at a second hand store, and I think it's great!!! I love The Sunbed Song, but I digress... From what i've seen and heard about Boon, he seems like a cool guy. How could he not be with a name like that? I like the way he plays too. It can't be easy to play guitar in a band where the bass is pretty much always featured. By the way, has anyone ever seen the movie "Nightbreed"? The main character's name is Boon, and he's really cool too. After listening to "True Colors" several times I was reminded how great of a song "Floating Life" is. I listened to it about 10 times and every part of it is awesome. It was always one of my favorite L42 songs, but I hadnt listened to it in awhile - just wanted to pass that on. Also, I am dropping AOL, but have already signed up for the digest under my new name ollor @ prodigy.net.
