However, I can see nothing has changed - it would still appear that the digest is still the 'slaggin off post' that it was when I left it! - Only that instead of Lyndon it is now Boon! I won't say any more as people obviously haven't learned....... On another note, someone mentioned second hand JD's. Do try the Bass centre as £650 should get you an A1 MK model - with case! Incidentally, the case comes with them - and a tool kit! - Yet you won't see that in the shops, as they pinch them! Make sure you get yours! - Or buy new from JD! hehehe! Best regards Dave http://come.to/jaydee-guitars ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Is Boon A Prick? From: "Charl Mocke" Date: Wed, 28 Apr 1999 10:44:53 +0200 Hi gang, Re: Is Boon A Prick? Hmm, I can see another rant coming... not unlike the "Is Mike Gay?" thread! Yes Boon was not your average popular guitar star, yes he did not play a lot of guitar in L42 tracks, and yes he might have been on the drugs-booze thing, but I still think he was okay. He played good guitar, though little, and of course, most important of all, the lyrics he wrote were amazing (though somewhat dark sometimes). So no, I don't think he was a prick. Some Non-L42 content: Bass talk I have 2 questions on bass: First: can someone tell me more about the BASS PICK / THUMB PLECTRUM Mark used / uses. Did he always use one? I looked around, but I can't find one for myself. Is it to ease the battering on your thumb, or to produce a better string slapping sound, or both? And what exactly does it look like, is it plastic or metal? I once heard of some hardcore slappers using a copper ring which is *permanently* stuck around their thumb (!!!). Are there some bass manufacturers which make these things, or does it have to be custom-made? Can I make one myself? Second: Bass amps. I use an old makeshift amp with speakers which works fine but is not very loud. I am considering using an old stereo FM amplifier with speakers. I have heard that you cannot do that and it will damage the stereo amp (i.e. you can ONLY use a BASS amp for a bass guitar). I have also heard, however, that you can do that provided you keep the volume very low, and the stereo amp will not be harmed. Can someone maybe tell me a bit more about this? MockeC @ Telkom.co.za Listened to "The Sunbed Song" this morning before work. It kind of reminds me of "Fashion Fever"! And a very warm welcome to all the new digesters (especially lady digesters) who have joined us recently! From: "Arjen Ligt" Date: Wed, 28 Apr 1999 13:27:47 +0200 Hi there! I'm new on this digest so let me tell you "something about me". I'm a Dutch (Apeldoorn) L42 fan since quite a long time now. I was so lucky to see L42 3 times, Zwolle 9 oct '88, Arnhem 15 dec '88 and in Den Bosch 9 nov '91. (Any good recordings of these shows available somewhere?) These days i'm trying to get my hands on some bootlegs but i still didn't find any.Can anyone tell me what L42 bootlegs are available or where i can find some info about them? All info is welcome such as cat nr, label, tracks, quality etc.. I've heard of the White Funky, it seems to be quite good ?? Arjen Ligt Apeldoorn Holland ------------------------------ Subject: LIL vid From: "Andrew Goodwin" Date: Wed, 28 Apr 1999 08:14:02 +0100 I just thought some of the Digesters would be interested in the following. A company called rareighties have the Lessons In Love CD video for sale for $10. Their e-mail address is rareighties @ hotmail.com, the contact is named Aregala. I feel a bit of an onus to find a buyer as it was reserved for me and I've had to back out. Cheers, Andrew Goodwin ------------------------------ Subject: for collectors... From: dirk.vael @ lu.arthurandersen.com Date: Wed, 28 Apr 1999 12:27:03 +0100 Saw in Brussels on Saturday that Polydor sells the new 2xCD "best of" now with a cardboard wrap with some L42 promo text with the Proms logo, something like "a little taste of the 80s"... picture is from RITF era, used on LIL 12" & CDV plus tracklisting etc etc. For collectors I guess ;-) Also noted a internet musicstore in Belgium sells some obscure 12" featuring on the A side ESG with "Moody" and on the B side Level 42 with "Starchild". Very unusual for this site, no label information on this 12" is given (bootleg, promo?) and released 20-Nov-98. Maybe a new howzy Starchild remix??????? $10 they ask for it. Think I'm gonna buy it ;-) They also sell the MK interview picture disc 12"es, Bakta Bak version..., $15 and the "clock-version" of that same PD for $20. For the rest some maxi cds of the FN era, all albums on CD & 20bit remaster of FN (JAP version with 2 bonus tracks, still don't understand why this is a 20bit master, since the CD nowhere mentions it at all!) Though I don't agree with him, in defense of the original Boon commenter, we all have our personal opinions, and we all have a right to state them without getting attacked. Seems like every time someone states an unpopular opinion, they get a (for lack of a better word) shitstorm directed at them. True, his comments were a little less than civil, but two wrongs don't make a right. >3. Nick Beggs... Kagagoogoo.. (Where are you now?) Went to Atlanta for a conference this past weekend....sat in 42 C Had dinner my first night there across from an 80's themed bar, heard Something About You... Visited Olympic Centennial Park, walked down the stairs to the ground level, looked at the square in front of me - 42. Hmmm..... Lockhart, I recall Chuckii Booker, and always dug his music. I know him as a keyboard player, and know he is the nephew of Barry White. I don't follow janet Jackson at all, but did he play bass on her tour, or the keyboards? Last thing i recall him doing, was production on the last 'Go West' album. Regarding all the discussion about 'Lessons In Love' being in the film 'Hot Pursuit'. i have given Carl Meuller a video clip of the film credits, and you should see it on ww.forevernow.com soon!! Interestingly, when I saw the film in the theaters, the end credits did NOT contain this song, but were added later. When you see the credits, you will notice the band are mentioned all the way at the end, seperate from the other music credits. Dean, check out www.forevernow.com for that video cover. From: J Shuford Date: Wed, 28 Apr 1999 10:00:11 -0700 (PDT) MicroKids: Sorry to be paranoid about Joe Parrington these days, but whenever somebody writes an inflammatory note to the digest I am always suspicious that it might be Joe Parrington trying to stir up $&*#. So please take that into account before replying to "Dan Nesselroth." If Dan is indeed his own person and not a fiction created by Joe, two things come to mind: One, congratulations, Dan - you've succceeded in getting yourself mentioned in the same breath as the most loathed character in Digest history (nearly 5 years, I believe). Two, such ridiculous remarks should be treated in the same manner we came to treat Joe's posts - you use one hand to plug your nose and the other hand to scroll down.
