Ronald ------------------------------ Subject: Is Boon a prick? From: "Dan Nesselroth" Date: Mon, 26 Apr 1999 11:12:44 PDT Having read several text interviews with Boon I get the feeling that he may have been a really awful person to work with. He is resentful, sarcastic, condescending, and bitter. Sometimes you get that feeling from the lyrics he has written. And what was the deal with his "health" problems? Sometimes he could not even get on stage. Was it drugs? I did not used to think so but these days I have been changing my mind. How many others here think "Dont Bother Me" is a song DIRECTLY written to Boon? Pills and Booze. A real BOON to the band. And he is even more bitter now that he has not really made it on his own. Aside from Levelheads such as ourselves, who else would have bought TINMAN? Alan Murphy, God rest his soul, was a much better player. When HE was with L42 you actually noticed the strength of guitarwork in the songs. When Boon was playing it was nothing but jazzy accents, funk back up, or solos that all sounded the same from song to song. Hell with Boon. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: Man Oh Man...MAN!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll explain this >principle if anyone responds..... I've never used one live, as any tapping usually occurs in the middle of a load of some other technique or something, but I have been known to wrap the odd hankie round my bass in the studio from time to time (If you were actually referring to the use of an assistant who has lost the power of speech, then my apologies). Thanks Loz, and as always, good job! I'm sorry though, my lazyness caused an error in the TSGD listings of WM3. I should have reported this before you sent it out but I thought that "someone else" would report it so I didn't bother. There is another CD-single version called 567845-2 which by your standard should include versions e, g, and h. So if you'll all get your copies out - what, you haven't got one? well, hurry up and get one, don't be left without! - you can just pencil that in below the rest of them... It has the same sleeve design as the 4-track version (which is slightly different from the 2-track). Lars ------------------------------ Subject: Tuning UP ? From: "Adrian Bond" Date: Mon, 26 Apr 1999 23:12:29 +0100 Hi Guys Thanks for all your help on the CD writer front. There is an awful lot to think about before I buy. MK doesn't tune down for SAY when he plays it live and I agree with David Kidd that it's the synth bass playing the low notes in the verse. I think though that it's Db that the fourth string is tuned down to for World Machine. My bass flaps like crazy just at low 'D' and Db is just inaudable so I never go that low. One thing that puzzles me though is that HW on the single and the album is played a semitone higher than when its played live with the lowest note being an 'F' instead of an 'E'. Although it can be played in this key it is much easier in 'E' because of the open string, so could it be for the album version MK tuned up to an 'F' ? Or are my ears playing tricks ? If so, why play it in such a strange key, is it easier to sing just a semitone higher ? Try Nero for disc at once (no gaps). Also I must say I don't really agree w/ spending all the extra money to get SCSI CD writers. If you already have a SCSI hard drive, that's different. Otherwise, IDE works fine. If you happen to make a coaster every once in awhile, no biggie. Since I've gotten all my CDR's either free after rebates or for $1 each. Definately cheaper than buying SCSI. > > Yes, except for the fact that the whole 80's revival tour (Human League, > Howard Jones, Culture Club) decided to pass on the entire west coast of > the states! Went to see Kula Shaker yesterday. Damn! This Crispian Mills can play the guitar! I was baffled. No matter what guitar of groove, he plays it. For those of you unknown to this band, they play psychedelic rock with a touch of Indian style. It's a little like some 60's bands. They've been known since a year or two, and are doing an Europe tour right now. It's like L42 in the early days: small gigs, lot's of fun, super quality. If you compare L42 to Kula, the bass is to L42 what the guitar is for Kula. Maybe we should put Mark King and Crispian together in a band, then we only need world's best drummer and keyboard player. Any ideas? tcoy Walter
