More suggestions.... >The Carpenters singing "Two Solitudes" ......... Dan (and to all the others making similar suggestions), where musical taste is concerned, I usually try to be tolerant. But you can't possibly be saying you want to hear Level 42 titles sung by "The Carpenters" or in fact anyone else? I don't believe it!!! Surely you were joking and silly old me didn't get it! If so, sorry, ha ha. I'll accept titles played by any member of Level 42, Mark King proved that they can be played. Or by any amateur band who play the songs for fun. But seriously, "The Carpenters" etc.??? And while I'm at it, (and this is just my personal opinion): Boney M (they were phoney, I take it you all realize that) and a lot of the other "artists" mentioned recently, SUCK LIKE HELL ! whew... Hans Grund ------------------------------ Subject: RE: Level42 Digest V99 #101 From: Kay Anthony Date: Mon, 12 Apr 1999 12:38:16 +0100 For Loz critics out there : Don't they say that you can become famous for being infamous ? Maybe you are only fuelling attention for Word Machine in a round about way ? It is ironic that the more you put fuel on the fire, the more attention Loz gets, so it works in a positive way for him in the end, rather than the negative.....think about it..... People say he mentions Word Machine too much on the digest, but every time he is the target for criticism, the newsletter gets more advertising ! For example, look at all the attention seeking in the media..... Celebs often have a go at the press for intruding on their lives, however, without publicity they would be a nobody. The web is mightier than the sword...... ------------------------------ Subject: Forever Bad... From: Kay Anthony Date: Mon, 12 Apr 1999 13:20:31 +0100 Having only just posted my first mail to the digest in ages, no disrespect to Greg, but I just couldn't resist replying to this one too: >My impression of Forever Now is that Level 42 reached a >point of maturity where they can produce a full album of >material at a very high level of quality. MY impression of Forever Now is that Level 42 reached a point where they had gone way to far beyond their peek. It was released just for the sake of having yet another album out and keeping to their contract agreement, rather than for the right reasons of releasing something that was both commercially and musically acceptable in the true Level 42 vein in my opinion. One Man takes Mark King back on top form - if only the band had waited longer, got back together, and released One Man as a Level 42 album instead of Forever Now. Out of their last few recordings together, I did rate Staring at the Sun however - Alan Murphy was a great loss - Guaranteed was not so good for me but enjoyable all the same, but Forever Now was Forever Bad - enough said !! >I imagine Level 42 starting with FN as their first album. What >success they would achieve. I certainly can't imagine it ! - LEVEL 42 was an excellent debut album (excluding the early tapes material) and they went from strength to strength until the last few albums. I am convinced that they would not have had the same following had FN been the debut LP. >Why has FN not done better commercially? It's beyond me. I am certainly not surprised, and I am sure there are many others who will agree with me. >Forever Now also gives me something I did not expect. .....I expected quality not quantity. > I listen and enjoy this CD much the way I do Incognito's music. > Level 42 is not like Incognito and never will be. Why do we keep on having Incognito and Jamiroquoi mentioned on the digest so regularly as if they are a comparable artists ?? .......Level 42 were in a league of their own. Btw, I walked past Macari's the other day in Charing Cross Rd - is that not where Mark used to work ? AK ------------------------------ Subject: more strange 42 happenings... Jenny ------------------------------ Subject: Breathe From: Nightfly83 @ aol.com Date: Mon, 12 Apr 1999 17:15:57 EDT In the middle of a Flashsession this evening, somebody sent me an AOL Instant Message asking me what I had against the group Breathe. Before I could respond, the Flashsession ended and the Instant Message disappeared with it. I would like to assure whoever sent this message that I meant no offence by failing to respond to them; that if they will insist on contacting me during the 30 seconds of an evening that I am actually online these things may happen; and should they wish to e-mail me I will discuss Breathe with them at leisure (or at least for as long as I can think of things to say about a band that existed for about a nanosecond.) Could have been worse. Winston sent me an Instant last week and froze AOL solid. He doesn't know his own strength that lad. The bass line is actually pretty cool, but that doesn't make a good song! I can't beleive that someone listed Gresham Blues as a hell track! Personally, i find great pleasure in playing that track and jamming with it (I play sax)! Am curious to know A) what other digesters think of the track and B) what are the reasons for disliking it? Also, reguarding the tinman cd, I had an order placed the day before the whole TINMAN SAGA began on the digest, and was eager to pay whatever to get an original copy. As a result of the TINMAN SAGA, I was never billed, never received the cd, and can no longer get ahold of my contact at voiceprint!!! Does anyone know of an online source for this disc?? ------------------------------ Subject: hell From: "willem van der veen" Date: Mon, 12 Apr 1999 23:18:49 +0200 Hell....kouyate....blahh blahh.. They performed "Something About You" and possibly one other song. I would like to obtain a standard or stereo VHS copy of that performance. If anyone on the planet would have a copy of that performance it would be someone who is part of the digest. Please respond at your convenience.
