Well, I can't verify that, since I only own the "20 bit remastered" Japanese version.(and of course the normal European RCA version and the Resurgence version) But the European mid-priced re-issues didn't get different catalogue numbers, did they ? Not that this "proves" anything/.... > I have listened on several different players and can hear no real > difference sonically. Mmmm, I think I _do_ hear a difference in that cymbals and guitars sound much more natural and "analogue". Also I feel the instuments are more "separate" from eachother (sorry if my English lets me down here, it's hard to express exactly what I think it is....) I doubt a new glass master makes so much diffence. But I compare to the European (UK?) RCA version, not to the "normal" Japanese version. I figure there could be tiny differences between the "normal" Japanese version and the European version regarding sound quality. I figure the plants in Europe and Japan may have different mastering equipment etc. (Probably the Japanese are better). Let's say it _was_ remastered at 20 bit. The differences _would_ be very subtle right ? It's not like there's going to be less hiss (is there any already ?) or immensive different sound. The only thing that would have changed would be the resolution (detail) of the sound, so the sampled music would be more like the original than the "regular" CD. I think I _can_ hear this, but maybe I'm just kidding myself because I know the CD was (or supposedly was) remastered. The ultimate test would be to have someone swapping the CD's without you knowing which one is playing.... > Also, nowhere in the book or on the sleeve does it mention being > remastered. If someone has yet another version of FN from Japan that is > definetely remastered please forward the details. Well, when I just got this CD I scanned the J-card and the back of the booklet and someone (I think Takeo ?) responded. Indeed I do not remember that he read any references to the remastering. But where did this "20 bit remasterd" come from then ? Someone made it up ? I guess only some people at RCA/BMG Japan know...... O well, I still like it for it has the two extra songs....... Groetjes, Andre ------------------------------ Subject: Couple of things... From: RHS42 Date: Tue, 14 Apr 1998 09:38:09 EDT Hi All, long time, no post.....oops! Ok, just a couple of things..... This weekend a local radio station 'RockFM', played a non-stop 80's weekend - loads of Level42, and some other great tracks - you missed a treat! So, (providing they find the tapes!) it looks like 'The Sun Goes Down' is gonna be the re-issue for the chart - what do you all think of this? - is it the right track? how far will it go in the chart? Who's gonna push its promotion, and how hard? Loads of my friends like like 80's music, but only remember SAY, LMN, LIL, RITF, IO - would these give greater chart sucsess? Leaving you now Richard. ------------------------------ Subject: Mark King's autograph? From: Dan James Date: Tue, 14 Apr 1998 14:54:14 +0100 Dear all, What's the simplest way to get Mark King to autograph my 12 year old son Liam's bass? He's an excellent slap bass player for his age and a huge fan of Level 42. I'm more than happy to travel to the Isle of Wight. Liam only wants a couple of minutes with him. It would be the highlight of his life. Any ideas? Dan James. ------------------------------ Subject: Mike Lindup, etc From: mark mohr Date: Tue, 14 Apr 1998 10:12:06 -0700 Hey Levelheads!!! Can anybody please tell me if Mike Lindup has anything out on CD besides "Changes," what he's doing now...what the Boon brothers are doing, and how Level 42 got its name? I visited Steve's Music store in Toronto on Saturday and leafed through an Allan Holdsworth Guitar note book. There were some pictures inside and it was interesting to see a picture of Allan with Gary Husband and some other musicians. Also, our MuchMusic (Canada's MTV equivalent) showcased the best of Prince's Trust Concerts on the weekend. Many of the clips had MK playing bass for all the big stars which I had never seen before. I can't remember the last time I saw MK on TV over here...such a shame. It was also cool to see Diana and Charles "getting down" to the music. Hey what does everyone think of Clapton's Pilgrim CD??
