I have recently given my Swing Out Sister "Shapes and Patterns" disc another try and rediscovered their cover of "Stoned Soul Picnic". I noticed there's something about what the rhythm section is doing in the extended jam at the end that reminded me tremendously of the way Mark & Gary sounded in the 1989 show. This led me to pull out my vidtape (courtesy of BobC), which has bits and bobs from the show but is missing many of the things I want and is not the best sound quality. By the way, if you haven't listened to or watched this show recently, take a check at Mark & Gary's work together on Will Downing's song "Free" (or whatever it's called). It's very hard to distinguish where Gary is providing whacking percussive bits (sorry to be so technical!) and where Mark is popping and slapping those bits himself. I was really impressed with how seemless their blending was and what similar sounds they can achieve (though admittedly through the assistance of some heavy tech). Anyway, it's quite cool and it makes a good case for Mark & Gary dovetailing just as well--though in a very different way--from Mark & Phil. Oh well, just my impression. Yeah, I've noticed this as well. It sounds to me as though a fraction of the first kick was cut off. > I found a copy of Physical Presence Part II on cassette, still wrapped in > the original shrinkwrap, not a cutout. I've just finished watching the DVD director's cut of the movie "Brazil". The main character, Sam Lowry, is on his way home and disembarks a tram at...Level 41 - indicated by a rather obvious neon sign. Later, he attends a party at his mother's apartment...apartment number 42. I've wondered about this before. I'm now told that there is a book called "The Brazil Companion" or something like that. Does anyone out there have this book, and does it mention these references? The movie was released in 1985, and was written/directed by Terry Gilliam (an American, but a resident of London and member of Monty Python). Certainly, they can not be coincidences.
