I have a question for you How did the 3 single releases from Forever Now make it into the UK Top 35? I`m not being disrespectful, I just can`t figure out how in 1994, Level 42 could have No.19, No.25 and No.31 hit singles. Who were buying them? As before I got Forever Now, I had never heard Forever Now and All Over You. Just another thing before I go, Is it worth buying the Running In the Family album? or can you suggest the best album to get out of a choice of Running in the Family, Physical Presence, World Machine and Staring at the Sun, as I have seen them all on a stall in Barnsley Market. All the best Neil White (Ultronic @ Hotmail.com) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: Sorry and rockpalast From: Henri.Blakenburg @ DUT.RWS.minvenw.nl Date: Thu, 15 Jan 98 14:39:32 +0200 Hi Starchilds, The answer of the Rockpalast redaktion incluse a "word" file that didn't work on yesterday's digest. So while I was grooving to "Sax and Violins" >and checking out the linear notes for the song when I saw this.. > >Additional Musicians- Wally Badarou: Keyboards > >So that makes David Byrne a 2 on the 6 degrees list! He already was. Wally Badarou played some keyboards on the "Speaking In Tongues" album (the one with Burning Down The House). ____________________ PFPD -- newmedia marketing consulting a limited liability company PO Box 281, Granger, IN 46530-0281 v:616.663.2250 -- competitive business advantages through creative technology ------------------------------ Subject: New Messages - Where's Wally : ) From: L42 UPSGUY Organization: AOL (http://www.aol.com) Date: Thu, 15 Jan 1998 11:02:22 EST ---Wally Badarou is also on all of the Power Station Cd's : ) ---Unrelated...what was all the crapola at the end of the last message??? Matthew ------------------------------ Subject: Turn it on when ever you can... From: "phillip bolden" Date: Thu, 15 Jan 1998 13:13:13 PST I have only recently subscribed to the digest and like everyone else I seek Level 42 stuff, info.,and great correspondence. I've been Leveling out since '85 and "Something About You", the first song of theirs that I'd heard and subsequently still a favorite. I remeber hearing that song all the time and I never got sick of it, a first!I bought the single and played it until the grooves wore out, when I played the flip side Coup de'Tat I had hunch that I was on to something far more interesting than your average American pop band of the mid 80's. My interest had faded because at the time I was more into Prince, contemporary jazz, classic rock, and a tiny bit of rap. Then in early '86 I heard Lessons In Love on the radio and once again caught the fever. I bought World Machine and Running In The Family at the same time...the double whammy. That's when I was seriously hooked and soon after every where I went I looked for Level 42 albums(prior to the CD era), I was bound and determined to buy them all. I believe the next two were Standing In The Light and Pursuit of Accidents, and Level 42. Whoa you wanna talk about a mind blowing experince for 17 year old, with lyrics rich in content and musically the smoothest combination of funk, jazz, and rock (with that refreshing British perrogative)I knew I'd be a life long fan and sought Level 42 Fan Club membership, which didn't happen until late '89. None the less, I had found a band that was not only musically talented but way deep in many ways...however there were some songs that took me a while to get used to finally like (eg.) Chinese Way, Fashion Fever, and the more popish sounding stuff. Then came Physical Presence, True Colours, and my very first CD Mark King's solo debut, and I began to get the feeling that maybe my discovery of this band was no happenstance. I won't go through the entire discography but let's say that my bond with their music has grown exponentially. It seems that I always find something new or rare exactly when I need it; meaning it somehow relates to something going on in my life no matter where I am. Crazy but true... I believe that somehow some way they tapped into a universal conscienceness I often call on that when ever I need a clue about something in life . For me it's not just a band or some cool music (I hate to say it) but by virtue of the fact that there are many web pages deicated to it's cause and many more dedicated fans all over the world it is evident that Level 42 has become a way of being. Even though they've broken up as a band I can't be sad because no matter what incarnation of the group or what era you recall they gave birth to an enigma or spirit that has a life of it's own. And we as fans/musicians/collectors keep it alive within us. Somewhere beyond the notes and the players, somewhere between the words and the feelings lives Level 42. I wish you all Love In A Peaceful World, Phillip Bolden ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
