Just received a mail cofirming that I am added to the list along with the latest Digest Issue. Apparantly, newcomers post a bit about themselves and their interest in Level42, so here we go: I am 31 years old and work as a programmer, mostly Visual Basic and other high-level tools. I live in Sweden. In 1983 a friend played a level-song when I was at his house and I was just blown away by that characteristic bass-style of Mark King's. After that I bought all the following records until Guaranteed. About that time my musical preferences had changed a bit and I was mainly listening to different kinds of music and my L42 records had become dust collectors. Now, in january I went into a record store looking for some CDs. To my surprise I found a small package containing all of L42's records, and since the price was a bargain I bought them. Needless to say, I couldn't stop listening to the records when I got home and I didn't until I had gone through them all. After that I got ticked off at myself for not going to their concert in Lund, Sweden in 1986 or was it 1987? A friend (yes, the same one) called me and asked if I wanted to go with him.................which I didn't. My current goal is to get whatever I come across from Level 42. I started playing drums at the age of 10. The only problem was that my father had had enough of all of my sudden interests, and didn't think that this one would last either. So, he never bought me any drums and I stopped playing when I was about 22-23. Of course I could had gotten a set of drums on my own by then but the whole thing was fading for me. But the interest in music was always there, so I got myself a guitar which I still can't play. But I developed a "feel" for it and could listen to a song and pick the basslines more or less accurately. Anyway, since buying those records I mentioned earlier, I have bought myself a Westone Thunder I-A (natural) and I just love it. My cheating with the guitar is paying off and I am making progress in my room in the basement. If possible, I am just getting more and more amazed listening to level 42 and in particular Mark King. Of course, I WILL get an Alembic some day..... Come tuesday this week, I'll get my fist lesson from a guy who believes in learning the natural way, by ear and by feel. He mainly plays funk with slapping, hammer-ons et cetera. By the way, anyone up for selling a copy of ANY live footage? PAL please! I am also interested in the bassplayer issue of march, '92. Photo copies will do if necessary. I noticed that Mark King seldom talks about his technique, any tips on that (websites)? Have found a lot, but not that. That's it, and that's that! Patrick ------------------------------ Subject: Level 42 Music Videos... From: tearsforfears @ juno.com (Gabe M LeBlanc) Date: Sun, 29 Mar 1998 20:41:41 -0600 -Hey all, This is my first post to the list and have been on it for a while now... My favorite song by L42 is "Lessons In Love." Unfortunately I only have Level 42's greatest hits on CD and since I can't get anything else by them on CD here in town, I'm forced to go to the local used record store and buy a couple of their albums. I ended up doing that with another favorite band of mine; Frankie Goes To Hollywood. I've NEVER seen a Level 42 music video and was wondering if there was someone out there (in America) that would be willing to copy a couple of their videos for me. I'd pay for the cassette and postage and all. If someone could help, I'd appreciate it! Thanks much and rock on! -Gabe :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check Me Out On-Line: http://members.tripod.com/~TearsForFears/index.htm Send ALL File Attachments To: Tears4Fears @ usa.net "And Fear Is Such A Vicious Thing, It Wraps Me Up In Chains..." -R.O. 1985 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. I started on it yesterday morning, but didn't come very far... severe case of The Hangover Syndrome!! ;) I'll keep everyone posted. Sean I succeeded in sucessfully downloading your new MIDI files from your site! I'll give it a listen this afternoon. Talking of the LIAPW Old Skool Mix - I have never heard this tune before... is there vocals on it or is it an instrumental? Lyrics? I hope you guys like it. See ya! Great site Germano! It was really cool to see my name actually mentioned on a site. I downloaded Together Forever, and I'll see what it sounds like this afternoon. However, I could not find "Whenever You Need Somebody". Did you put this one up too? To Andy Smith (new digester) who asked yesterday about a Level 42 favourite song survey: there was one done recently by Eric Pseja, some time last year. It was a very successfull poll survey and very thoroughly done. I had a look on his site http://www.thru.net/~eric/ for it but I could not find it... Eric? Try searching though the digests of last year for it. Look at the instructions at the digest footer. Try his words such as: "Level 42 Survey" or "Poll". :) I think you'll find the results quite interesting! (no clues given here - it'll spoil your fun). Anyways, as a recap, a list of proposed L42 MIDI files I plan to write: Love In A Peaceful World.Mid (currently working on) Freedom Someday.Mid Her Big Day.Mid Seven Years.Mid Love Games.Mid (that's right!) (the PP version.) Romance.Mid I gotta idea for a new "thread" I'll post up later this week - it concerns Level 42 Compilation albums.
