Charl Mocke ------------------------------ Subject: Duly Chastened From: Lolitaj Date: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 12:48:31 EST I'm very sorry, Bill - I completely forgot that you e-mailed me before I left. I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide. Tony Sharpe offered to help, so maybe he can book the hotel stuff and call Joe DaFlo's, and you can research bus information. Just let me know. I sent a message to the Digest yesterday, but its not here, so I'll try again. The LA Budgetfest gave me an idea. Why don't we make May 23rd International Levelfest Day? Everyone who lives in the same cities can get together, which will mean that no one will feel left out of the Isle of Wight, as time, monetary and geographic constraints are keeping many folks from being there. We could even incorporate the different cities into the t-shirt, so that everyone will want one. What do you guys think? (McConnell AFB)" Date: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 12:07:23 -0600 Hi all! Just thought I'd post a little note from Kansas. I drove down to Dallas-Ft. Worth last weekend and met four other Level fans, including Digest members Steve Allert and Kristin Lage, for an "informal" gathering. We drank a couple, played some pool, checked out a used CD store (had some interesting Level on vinyl) ... good time, all in all, but in a very laid back atmosphere. Not sure when the next "official" Texas Fest is, but I plan to be there! Take care everybody. Brian B. ------------------------------ Subject: Ummm... LIL by L42!!! From: Chris Staunton Date: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 13:13:10 -0500 HEY Levelheadz! I was just sitting here at work listening to the radio (to the only station we get, Top 40) and they did the daily "Rossi's Random Riffs" game, where they play a couple seconds and you have to identify title and artist. I did a triple take, and then yelled "Lessons in Love!" (much to the obvious confusion of my officemates!) Sure enough, someone must have requested it for lunch-hour, and they turned it into a random riff. The nice thing is, someone got it almost immediately! I think L42 has a lot of fans around here, though they hardly ever get played. I know the local DJ's all love Level 42, but it never winds up on their playlist so there's not much they can do unless someone calls and requests 'em. I think the only track they rotate in occasionally is "Something About You" (of course). Of course, the best part of this story is that after a caller ID's the song... they play it! ;^) ------------------------------- Chris Staunton chriss @ pcsupplies.com ...gotta get back to BASSics... ------------------------------- ------------------------------ Subject: Available in Green and other Jazz... I have started > listening to more jazz Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, and Lionel Hampton. Funny, that's where my tastes have been taking me lately too. I admit I haven't listened to much Level 42 (or Incognito for that matter) lately. I've been turning to more traditional jazz, as well as some contemporary jazz. I've really been digging the vocal jazz stuff as well. Just rediscovered the recent Diana Krall releases, and I think I'm in love... :) Also been doing New York Voices recently (although seeing a band live tends to do that to you) as well as Ernestine Anderson ('though one might say that's more blues than jazz). ------------------------------ Subject: Dave Koz, MIDI, Rantus Rex, and Vocal Stylings From: MByrd42 Date: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 20:11:07 EST Hello all, once again! Exciting news about Mark, is it not? DAVE KOZ- Marie-Louise, Dave Koz is a very big Smooth Jazz type artist, in the same vein as Kenny G and Paul Hardcastle. I may be mistaken, but Dave Koz is featured in the Beverly Hills 90210 jazz album that out. I do know, however, that if your city has a smooth jazz station, which is a pretty common format in America, that chances are you will hear soom more of Dave Koz. MIDI SONGS- Sean, is it possible that you might have a MIDI version of "Love in a Peaceful World" that I could request from you? If not, is it possible for you to produce it? I really would greatly appreciate it if you do, and I could pay if you if necessary. It is really important to me, so could you let me know. RANTUS REX- I am working on a new web site, called "Rantus Rex," where I can display my writings (Poetry and Essay, and maybe allow downloads of my screenplays in production, including my Level 42-inspired "Love Games" and "Forever Now" screenplays.) I also want to add something about Mark King and L42. If anyone have any insights and advice to give on that sort of thing, I would greatly appreciate VOCAL TENNETS Brad, thank you for the little bits on vocal tension. I have been having trouble singing tenor in choir lately; I think its because of tension but I could be wrong. I have a tendancy to sing with my chin down for long periods, and it causes my throat to get sore, and lately for it to close up. Stress does play a big part, but I'm also sure that face position and vocal habits and diction play a anothe large portion. Smoking may help add a gritty tone to your voice, but at the cost of note duration, as I'm sure you can guess. My biggest problem, wish, whatever, with my singing is my technique. I sing mostly tenor in choir at church, and will begin to sing solos this summer. What I wish is to be able to sing more (please forgive the term) "Black". I grew up listening to R&B and Soul, and the like, but I sang Pop songs like L42 and Go West, ABC and the like. So I have a soulful technique with a lighter feel like Mark King or Martin Fry. What I desire is a more soulful sound like Boyz II Men, Luther Vandross, or pretty much anyone you'll hear on an a Adult Contemporary station. Does anyone out there have any advice or notions on such a sound. Lolita, and any other vocalists, your insight is very welcome... Thank you for the space... "We're only human after all..." I can see clearly as to why boon and phil left because for years I honestly never knew. I felt a bit sorry for boon and his dealings with insecurity. I still have more to read but was curious if I was reading true to life material. If it's the same music as on the background at "The Pier" interview, it's gonna be a GREAT album !! I think it's not a commercial or poppy album, but more a instumental one. I hope so because i like L42's early years and intrumental (fusion) tracks the most. We all have been waiting to long, don't we? Any comment/whishing how his album would sound ? Bedankt (Thanx) all for your help about my "Trace Elliot cd" quistion. Leon, i'm sure gonna try your MIDI's ! Andre, nice LLLF picture's (thanks Dirkies !) Next year i will bring some Yamaha keyboard batteries with me !! Adios 566 amigos. Henri. ------------------------------ Subject: Nice lengthy posting! Heheheh - that makes 2 of us - I am the only Digester in my country as well!! (South Africa) :) By the way, it would be interesting to know, how many L42 digesters here are the only from their country? > Please, visit my page and send me a mail, There are some fellows who > can proof that I send an answer the same day. > > I am so sorry because i don't have any news to share with you, no fests > to invite, no photos to show and no adventures to tell. Sorry. I just > have some files to share. Would you like to have them? Thanks very much for your effort to contribute L42 material (albeit MIDs) to the elite group of Level 42 Fans out there. Though most of use already have most of the MIDI files you have on your site, like I always say, the more the merrier, so if there is another site with L42 MIDI files on it, bonus!!! I think I sent you my two new MIDI files (To Be With You Again and Guaranteed); you are most welcome to put them up on your site. Always remember that you (or anyone here, in fact) *don't* have to be shy / feel sorry when they can't contribute much to the Digest or fellow fans / haven't seen L42 live / don't have stax of photo's / don't have _ALL_ of their albums / haven't met Mark King / don't have some of his hair / haven't got a fancy www site full of goodies to show off. This will NOT make you less of a fan. On this Digest we have a sort of "family feeling" and that is why we constantly urge the so-called "lurkers" on the Digest to speak up and join in any discussion, even if they just introduce themself and say how they got into L42 - whatever. Here, everything and anything goes. Anyone and anything is welcome (except maybe a certain person with the initials J.P. - heheheehe!). You DON'T have to make any contributions to the digest or its members or other fans - the fact that you are a die-hard L42 fan is enough and all that matters. SO my point is, Leon, DON'T feel sorry!!!!!! :) > Check out my first Home made Home page (I did it by myself, nobody > helped me) at: > > http://www.geocities.com/collegepark/library/3375 > > It's still under construction, but I'd think that the level 42 is first > on this project. > > And every month we'll have a guess band on the MIDI file, keep in touch. > Always great to see that whenever a fan draws up a www page, the first thing he/she thinks of is putting something about L42 up on it.
