Charl Mocke ------------------------------ Subject: Various From: Dave Mock Date: Wed, 18 Mar 1998 17:50:01 -0800 (PST) Hey, Micro-Kids: I just got a copy of another Level 42 remix album -- the one with the four guys and a large head shot of Mark on the cover -- and finally heard the KILLER remix of "I Sleep On My Heart." WOW! Fat beats, a pumping synth and of course the driving bass. This is an example of Level 42 at its peak. The rest of the remix album has some disappointments...a couple of remixes I heard on the 1992 Polydor "The Remixes" collection, and a truncated "The Sun Goes Down" and "Starchild" (even the "Level Best" version was better)...but great dubs of "ISOMH" and "Heaven In My Hands" and serviceable dubs of "Tracie" and "Take A Look." BTW -- As I remember, there was another remix of "Something About You", other than the Shep Pettibone version heard on both of the above remix albums. It sounds similar to the album version, with more echo and more whack. WQHT-FM here in New York used to play it regularly from 1986 until they went hip-hop six years ago. Is there any remix album that has THAT version of "SAY," as well as the remix of the single "World Machine?" Hansen" Organization: Worldmachine Technologies Corporation Date: Thu, 19 Mar 1998 09:49:24 -0500 As far as I know, the only difference between the US and UK CD versions of Mark's "Influences" is the artwork on the cover. The UK version has his face, half-shadowed. The US version is a photo clip of him from one of the Running In The Family videos (I think it's "It's Over".) I had some problems with server at school and decided to resubscribe at my new address ncbrown @ mci2000.com I have decided to take 1998 off from listening to the band. It has been very hard these three months but I know come Jan 1, 1999, I will enjoy listening to all the albums in order. How I came about this I do not know. However at work the other day I heard the first few bars to "Something about you" and walked away. It was very hard. I do find myself sitting and humming some of the songs. "Micro kid" and "Children say" have been the most recurring. I hope I am not still the lone digester in Arizona (Tempe). If the California digesters have anything in the works for a levelfest< I will represent the Grand Canyon State. Anyway, just thought I would say hi and look forward to being on the digest. Getting to the point, I keep reading about the Levelfests that are taking place. I can't afford to travel across to the states - when's the next one in the U.K? I live in Aylesbury, Bucks but am prepared to travel wherever in good old Blighty. Hope I'm in luck!! Andy :) ------------------------------ Subject: Are You Hearing? From: RHS42 Date: Fri, 20 Mar 1998 04:29:28 EST Hi all, Does anyone know just how aware MK/ML are of this forum? Lets face it, we are keeping the faith, we will no doubt be spending yet more money on those re-issues and solo projects, and yes, we'll be there on tour too - not only do we do this but also we convert our long suffering friends and partners to do the same! etc etc.... Mark and Mike must have a computer..... 'stand in the light' and say 'Hello' p-l-e-a-s-e!!!, you would make these 'true believers' very very happy. Anyway, leaving you now. Rick. ------------------------------ Subject: Does Mark King smoke? From: "Charl Mocke" <9413693 @ narga.sun.ac.za> Organization: Stellenbosch University Date: Fri, 20 Mar 1998 11:50:15 +0200 Hi Levelheadz... I heard smoking screws up your vocal chords and thus deterioates the quality of your singing...? Any comments? I smoke (cigarettes!!) and recently when I tried to sing, it came out terrible!!!! Might this be the result of smoking? So, I thought about this yesterday while listening to Tracie... does Mark smoke? Mike and the others?
