CU Daniel ------------------------------ Subject: Caveman From: lo.larsson @ zeiss.se Date: Thu, 12 Mar 1998 13:25:31 +0100 Not only is there a Mark King in Caveman, but there is also a Remington Steele-episode with a Mark King as guest actor. I don't think that's our man either... For those of you who don't remember RS it was a tv-series with Pierce Brosnan as the main actor. Yes, the very same Pierce who now plays James Bond. I have always been curious about the >vocal effects that happen at the end of the line "We're making perfect sense >of life, but still remain so far apart". I don't believe it is straight >vocals, or else that is where we should point any critics who have ever >complained about Mark's vocal range. It is either a transposed sample of >his own voice, or maybe a smooth mix with a female backup. What do you >think? I noticed that vocal trick a long time ago. My theory has always been that it's three of them singing, Mike starts out, then it blends into Phil, then it blends into Mark, going down the range. There's definite mixing going on there, I can hear it, and it's not one person singing (and if there is, it's CERTAINLY not Mark :D ). I'm 99% sure that Mike starts it and 100% sure that Mark finishes it, it's the middle I'm not so sure about, but having heard Phil's singing voice, that's my educated guess. That vocal mix is just one of the little things that you find in their songs that continues to make it enjoyable to me. ____________________ PFPD -- newmedia marketing consulting a limited liability company PO Box 281, Granger, IN 46530-0281 v:616.663.2250 -- competitive business advantages through creative technology ------------------------------ Subject: HOLIDAY ! From: David Kidd Organization: FLUiD Date: Thu, 12 Mar 1998 03:02:00 -0000 I gotta feeling that when Dirk referred to APP being on vid, he's half right. If I'm correct, the vid he saw with the footage of Phil with the 'fan' behind him was possibly Channel 4's 'Play At Home' in the UK. The live clips are from the band playing at Hammersmith Odeon, whereas APP was compiled from three separate gigs around the UK (check sleeve notes for details) BUT...... the photos of the band on the sleeve ARE from the Hammersmith gig, so Lev are on 'Film' with APP, but not from the same gig !! IF anyone is wondering why I sound like a trainspotter with this response....well.....er.....maybe it's coz I'm stoned at the moment and my existence is condensed into one slow vibration and I am the imagination of myself, and think it should be mandatory to listen to Lev all day long............er...perhaps I'd better turn off my Bill Hicks video now. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if he could have done the end of that phrase "we're making perfect sense of life, and still remain so far apart" in one breath. I'm a singer, and have been "practising" that song for years at home. Though I have nowhere near Mr. King's experience, I found with me that breath control can allow someone allowed me to handle it. He, of course, did it splendidly. It's the same with "Romance" on "Forever Now." He places the breaths perfectly, making the listener feel Mark could handle the line "Away with all those tales of romance" in one breath if he wanted to. A must have for a collection of classics! later, laura ------------------------------ Subject: Cricket / Level 42 From: "LOZ Green" Date: Wed, 11 Mar 1998 19:20:34 -0000 Hmmm, > In digest #62, Loz wrote...a bunch of superstitious nonsense about > repeating numbers, including: Not sure about this one mate, it was just a joke. After all, the result of my faith is that I believe all superstition is nonsense. I was just have a joke about 555. Cant think of any connection with Level 42 though. AHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHHHAHHHHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! In the late 80's early 90's there was a cricket catroon thing with lots of cuddly cartoon characters playing cricket. The series contained music from various well know groups, including, you've guess it, Level 42. I cant remember the song though. Level 42 and superstition? Nothing springs to mind. (5 minutes later (3 scenes from Star Trek [the lectus episodes])) still nothing. NO, Im calling it a day. Suggestions?
