Bill Miller ------------------------------ Subject: Hi again! From: "Marie-Louise" Date: Tue, 24 Feb 1998 14:06:30 +0100 Hi everybody! It's been a long time since I have been able to read the digest, so I guess I'm a bit behind now...Anything new about the forthcoming Mark King release? Two weeks ago, I was on a one-day trip in Germany, I discovered a L42 release I've never seen before: Level 42 "Greatest Hits". The cover was a drawing of the guys, I think you call that charicature (or something like that...!) Anyway, the store had about five CDīs left and the price was DEM 23,-.... Some time ago I received the "Influences"-album...what a joy! I was pleasantly surprised, when I listened to it for the first time. I've heard a lot of bad things about the album, and I must say, that the only "bad" sounding issue is in my opinion the first track...but who knows I might get used to that in time! It's just a question of time now, and I will receive the Mike Lindup album too. Don't necessary to tell you that I am excited about that! I am interested in any informationo regarding any other releases in this format. ie was the US influences CD released in a long box? Yours..............LOZ ------------------------------ Subject: freebies From: dirk.vael @ ArthurAndersen.com Date: Tue, 24 Feb 1998 18:27:20 +0100 Hi after some weird computer experiences, I have 2 CDs with only one real working track, namely the unreleased Ben Liebrand re-remix of the Hit Combination... Everybody who heard it was thrilled by this version, so I guess it's a good one ;-) The rest of the CD is a live concert, but sadly there's a pause between every track :-/ But still nice considering it's totally free! All you have to do to get one of these two CDs *100% FREE* mailed to you is simple: gimme a good reason why I should send it to YOU ! Remember, only TWO copies are available... cc's to the Digest are allowed of course ;-) Bye bye! Dirk ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Los Lobotomys Lineup From: Rythmsong @ aol.com Date: Tue, 24 Feb 1998 15:04:26 EST On the "Candyman" CD, Lukather is joined by John Pena on bass, David Garfield on keys, and the one and only Simon Phillips on drums. Apparently, Simon met Lukather at a Hendrix Festival in Japan and they clicked. They got together with Pena and Garfield and did Los Lobotomys. The liner notes in the "Candyman" CD make it sound like it was Simon's attempt at a solo album which ended up being a total group effort (although there is one instrumental track called "Party in Simon's Pants" which is in 17/8 time). Then Lukather (also lead guitarist and vocalist for Toto if you didn't already know) asked Simon to join Toto after the death of Jeff Porcaro, Toto's former drummer. Toto's latest, "Tambu", also has Simon on drums. Also saw in the store the other day a David Garfield solo album with an incredible lineup of musicians. To say the least, it is a "must purchase". I would just like to say that this is my first post to the newsletter. I've been a L42 fan since 10th grade (1987) and have a decent collection (not nearly as vast as some of you other subscribers) and I enjoy following the threads in this digest. I work as a computer technician for UPS in North Carolina, but my degree was in music. I've been playing drums since before I could walk and I think Phil Gould is one of the smoothest drummers playing today. I have a wide variety of musical tastes, ranging from L42 to Yes to Dream Theater to Maxwell. If that's not full circle.... I'm currently working on a project involving my fiancee called Rhythmsong. I'm playing electronic drums and running midi sequences. She's an outstanding vocalist (we me in a band) ala Teena Marie, but can be as smooth as Toni Braxton. We play mainly covers (jazz, R&B, Top 40) in some local jazz clubs throughout the state. I'm working on a web site and I'll let everyone know when it's up, in case you're interested... Well, I think that's probably a long enough post for my first one. I'll try not to be so long winded in the future. I don't have some interesting quote to put here.... From: Bob And Mary Mazierski Date: Tue, 24 Feb 1998 19:41:06 -0500 I have a friend (non-Levelhead) who insists he can spot someone with a homosexual preference by visual contact alone (doesn't everyone have a friend who makes the same claim??). Anyway, in trying to bring him into the nirvana of Level42 fandom, he has seen various photos of the band and INSISTS that Mike Lindup is gay. I have no evidence either way, but he certainly SINGS about women enough. Anyone who can confirm or deny this claim?? Also...
