If so, that is COOL. She is indeed a talented and beautiful woman. I saw her when they all came to San Diego recently. And yes, she is very nice. Paul ------------------------------ Subject: RITF airplay From: "Andre Huijts" Date: Fri, 13 Feb 1998 23:17:31 +0100 Hey Guys, Yesterday RITF was played on Dutch national radio (3 FM). Not very shocking, 'cause this is one of the songs that is still quite regularly on radio over here (they always play either LG, LIL, RITF, It's Over, or HW) However the DJ (Henk Westbroek) called it a "masterpiece". The thing is that this DJ is the type of guy you never know if he's serious or kidding...... What I found quite remarkable was that he mentioned the fact that Dutch guitar virtuoso Jan Akkerman was once asked by Level 42 to join them, but that he refused to. Well this may be so (when Boon had left) but fact is that Jan Akkerman asked Mark to do some basswork for him on an album, but Mark later said that when he heared the synth-bass parts already recorded he thought he had nothing to add (?!?!?!?!?!?!??? HUH ? 8-0 ! ) Anyway the two have met in the past and I feel it's a shame they never did anything together. Anyway it was good to hear some Level on radio again plus that the DJ said just a little bit more than "this was Level 42 with Running In The Family". Talking about radio, have some other Dutch people heared the interview Mark gave on Radio 2, I think about a year or so ago at Ferry Maat's show "Maat in de middag" ??? I was in my car at the time, and out of the blue, Mark was there in the studio doing this interview. Mark told he was working on a solo album, and Ferry reminded Mark (once again) of the "Dronten" gig, where they could hardly reach the place due to the bad weather. I mailed NCRV (the station) if they had made tapes of that show, but they hadn't. Maybe someone else heared it too ? Or maybe even taped it ? I wonder what Mark was doing in Holland at the time (family visits maybe ?) Anyway, I am still awaiting some confirmations/info from some people who showed interest in the LowLandsLevelFeest. Please don't wait too long, it's only two weeks ! And the signs are that missing this LLLF is a BIG mistake if you're a Levelhead ! I usually have my CD player going in the living room when I use the Stairmaster in the morning. Last week, I had the "Forever Now" disc going, and when "The Sunbed Song" kicked in she started bopping, and we don't mean the Mike Lindup Leap either. (The woman can DANCE!) She also likes "Billy's Gone" and "Learn To Say No." I swear I'm going to bring that CD here to CBS News and get Mike Wallace and Andy Rooney boogeying on the "60 Minutes" set. Anyhow...I got Paul Hardcastle's "Cover to Cover" last week, and was impressed enough to buy "The Jazzmasters" (his htrsy '93 set). Who should I find as one of the chief collaborators, and the sax/flute player, but our own Henpecked Horn Gary Barnacle! I was floored that I'd enjoyed cuts from that album (as aired on WQCD) for four years, yet didn't know Gary was behind 'em! If you don't have it, "Jazzmasters" is on the JVC label. Forward directly to cut two, "Northern Lights, for some good sleazy sax from Gary. TCOY, Duke _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? As great as Sting, David Hungate, and Mike Porcaro are...I question whether they are worthy of a top 10 list. I'm sure we could all make a great top 50 list. But top 10 has to be VERY special. Mark King and even Marcus Miller would be in the teens on my list, based on innovation. Denman 10.)Rocco Prestia If I could have more I'd add: Tom "T-Bone" Wolk, Adam Clayton, Kojota, and Bathiki Kumalo My worst bass player: Danny Bonaduce... ;) Did he really play? Anyone? My worst bass album: Phil Collins- "Both Sides" There's keyboard bass which I'm cool with, but it's so low in the mix as to be nonexistant. I just picked up Dominic Miller's "First Touch". I was surprised to find that it has Mike Lindup ooohing/ahhing/humming on one track. Pino Palladino is listed as co-songwriter on two songs, but I'll be darned if I hear his signature bass sound, or a distinct bass part anywhere on this record. Overall a wonderful acoustic effort by Dominic. Happy Valentines day for those who have that special someone. I don't so I'm wearing all black tomorrow as the Valentines Mr. Grinch- kidding! Valentines Level song survey? What would it be? Trivial maybe... Sorry to make you all wade through my nonsense. Take Care Brad
