For any digest members who will be or can be in New York this Wednesday evening, would you like to join me at a Maceo Parker concert? This saxophonist was one of the horn players behind James Brown's funky music. He is a class act and puts on a steaming show of funky music. If Jerome Preston is still with him, you will also hear some excellent bass playing. Place: Irving Plaza When: Wednesday December 30 at 8:00 Cost: Approximately $29.00 (25 plus ticket master charge) I will be buying tickets Sunday. If you would like to come, send me an email with your telephone number, 8:00 Sunday morning at the latest. On a Level note; Mark is given cover on the latest issue of a German language magazine called 'Bass Professor', edition 98/4. New in the interview for me; Mark was rehearsing one hour of Level 42 material, and one half hour of his own material, for his solo shows. Also, he has business contact with Mike Lindup regularly and Mike is recording an acoustic album. Mark also made reference to one of my bass inspirers, Geddy Lee, as someone who sings and plays at the same time. This is what I can remember from the two page interview. One hour of Level 42 material! Greg ------------------------------ Subject: if you like the funk... From: Nick Brazier Date: Sat, 26 Dec 1998 05:45:19 -0500 Hiya everyone, If you like it funky, slapped and raw, listen to Larry Grahams Best Of, the track called "The Jam" is simply raw funk and a bloody good jam session. I got this cd for xmas and it hasn't left the cd player since, with of course 1 religious play of One Man on such a day If anyone was at The Artists gigs this year you will have seen Larry do this track live - its the one which lasted about 10 mins where Larry wonders off into the croud slapping about the place!! Has anyone heard the supposed new 1999 yet? Take care Jonathan
