Cee ya Henri ------------------------------ Subject: International Levelfest From: Lolitaj @ aol.com Date: Mon, 2 Feb 1998 09:12:08 EST Loz, you probably weren't around during the time that we decided how it would work. We have tentatively planned for the following: all day Friday up until Saturday morning, folks arrive. People coming from the West Coast take 9 hours, and the flights usually arrive in the morning, so we can't really get started until Saturday for those folks who can't leave until Friday. For the people who are arriving Friday morning like myself, we will hang out at a bar/pub/or club in Soho on Friday night, and I can already think of a couple of places there and on King's Rd. or Fulham that we could go to. We could also possibly catch a show at Ronnie Scott's if anyone good is playing (I caught Roy Ayers there by accident and it was an awesome, and cheap, show). Some of the native Brits agreed earlier that since they didn't have to pay for flights, they would chip in and charter a bus for Saturday afternoon. We planned on having the bus drive from London to Portsmouth, and we could turn it into a party bus, complete with boombox, bathroom and food. It's a two hour ride if I recall, so it would be a blast. We then take the ferry over to the Isle, and rent the upstairs room at Joe DaFloes for all of Saturday night. After that, we stay in a hotel on the Isle and sing Level 42 songs until we pass out. Sunday morning we eat breakfast and then head back to London. At that point we can go to record stores in London and just hang out all day, and we can then do the pub thing again that night. Anyone who needs to leave on Monday would do so, and those of us who are staying a little longer can scatter to the winds (I'm doing a day trip to Bath). The reason we want to have it in London and Isle of Wight combined is this: many people from the US are flying 3000-6000 miles to get there, and we aren't doing it to go to Reading. For a lot of people this will be their vacation (quite possibly their first time in Europe), and remember, you live there so you see London all the time. It would be like me suggesting that we have a New York City Levelfest in Linden, New Jersey. You wouldn't fly here for that. Since no one seems to be taking this up, I am willing to do it if I have a compatriot on the other side of the Big Pond (Marcus Bone, where are you?). If that person can find out charter bus prices I'll come up with an itinerary for everyone, and hotel prices on the Isle and in London. Later! Box 4945 Lutherville, MD 21094-4945 phone (410) 628-7601 fax (410) 628-1948 email cdinfo @ aol.com You can view their catalog and shop online at the following: http://cyboard.com/audiophile.html They also can be located easily be yahoo. I highly recommend this organization. Even though they fret about not being sure they can get items by Level 42, they always have. I bought most of my collection from them, and their catalog looks pretty full. They enjoy the band too, so they are fun to talk to. If you're like me, you don't run into too many people who've even heard of them!! Well lo and behold, I checked out the digital counter and I was visitor # 0001 . I wrote to Adam and congratulated him on his fine site etc and casually queried if I won a prize for being the first visitor. I jokingly mentioned a picture disc would be nice :-). To my unbelievable amazement, Adam did, in fact, send me a wonderful picture disc. The 12" of Out of Sight / Out of Mind !!! To Adam: I thank you very much. To the rest of you, check out his site. I have also dealt with Audiophile, as I am sure many of you have too. My belief is that there is nothing you can get through Audiophile that you can't get through other channels for much cheaper. I even supported Audiophile to Crockford and got them mentioned extensively in a fan club newsletter in the early 1990s. I haven't stepped away from my support for them--they are fans of the band, and that counts for a lot. The guys that work there are very nice (in my experience) and like to talk about the band & usually have some good information about them. Also, they do come through with the goods. It's just that you're going to pay a lot for these things--more than you should. Anyone who has been touched up for $50 for a copy of the Definitive Biography can attest to that. I was also charged $45 for a copy of the Japanese version of Forever Now on RCA/BMG. For any of you American fans who are building your collections, there is nothing you can't find somewhere in a record store here or find through one of our Digest members living in Europe, and we'll all (most likely) help you out for the cost of the item, no more. Audiophile has a right to make a profit and all, but you might also want to shop around. Just take this bit of advice for what it's worth... Okay, so this was going to be my next question. I have no intention of flying to London for the weekend. I'd thought of flying over the weekend before, but if other people are planning on staying 'til the weekend after (or the partial week after) then I'll make my plans to arrive on Friday and fly out the following weekend. A short documentary called 'Single Luck' about the single Pop Muzik of M (Robin Scott). Now, as most of you people know In the biography of Mark and Phil is written that they contributed to the project, however both were not in the doc. I assume the played only on the other songs of the Long Player, not on the single. What i didn't know is that Wally Badarou made a huge contribution to the single playing all the keys (which is actually making the record sounding like it is.) Wally was interviewed saying he was now 'trying' to produce other people records and wanted to go back making is own music again. I taped it on VHS (i missed the first part) and I'll bring it to the LLL42 ! See ya, Erik T. ------------------------------ Subject: Intl. LevelFest From: DonZipf @ aol.com Date: Tue, 3 Feb 1998 16:47:59 EST Hey, all: I posed these two questions regarding the International LevelFest a while back, and got no reply. I shall try again. 1. Whatever became of the idea of booking Mark and/or Mike (or other members) for a "meet & greet" while we're there? Was this determined to be possible and/or cost-prohibitive? 2. Has anyone checked to see if Gary's new jazz band will be playing a gig anywhere whithin reasonable traveling distance, so that we could catch a show together? If either of these things should come to pass, I will very likely attend the LevelFest. Otherwise, I may save my money for a trip to Japan later in the year, as much as I'd like to go with you all. I need something to tip the scales! I went on Sunday. I saw Will Lee, Bunny Brunel (met him) and Everett Harp walking around. I heard/saw Victor Wooten play at the Yamaha area with a band of great guys I didn't know. That was awesome. Later, at the same area I enjoyed Alex Acuna (percussion), John Pena (bass), and Dave Weckl (do I have to tell you what he plays?) play with another band. They even had another guy on a bigger drum set. ...and it was all free! Are any of you instrumentalists (Winston?) envious? Bye for now, Angel
