Still, I Phil wins hands > down for his lyrical ability and him being an all round crazy guy. My sentiments exactly, as I was saying:- Gary never really was a suitable replacement for Phil. I also feel that the friction between Mark and Phil fueled that statement from Mark. -- David Goodall ------------------------------ NON-LEVEL 42 RELATED MATERIAL ------------------------------ Subject: McGwire From: EMIKATIE @ aol.com Date: Sat, 12 Sep 1998 10:53:56 EDT I have 3 thoughts today and two are Level 42 related. I don't follow baseball but have been following the exploits of Mr. McGwire and his bid to top Roger Maris home run record. Without discussing the merits of todays pitching, bat material, ball material, # of games, # of at-bats, stadium dimensions, training, dollar incentives, etc. the real test of the accomplishments are that Roger did what he did with his god-given talents while Mark did not. To me, it's as simple as that. Mark should be ashamed of himself as now that he has infused what has been missing from baseball (as I was told) he can't help but be a roll model to hoards of young boys eager to ingest steroids errrr.... eager to play baseball. If I haven't alienated (no Star Trek reference) anyone with the above, could someone explain exactly what "disconet" means as in "disconet mix" ? I have several tunes with that on it but don't know what it is. Thirdly, with regards to the Pamela lyrics, if they offend, then please don't read the Independent Counsels Report by Starr. Alternatively, if you find Pamela exciting, then by all means, read on. My take on the Pamela lyrics are that it's just any other piece of art. It lies in the eye of the beholder. I don't find them offensive and I'm glad that there is access to such things. At least that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! Now where is the spellchecker? I have been a huge fan of the band since I heard "Are you hearing" back in '82 and have been collecting their stuff ever since. I need some help tracing a few items, namely 12" singles: 1) Love meeting love, Turn it on, My father's shoes (12" and CDS) 2) The catalogue number for Gary Husbands Drum video. I got a fax from Wally (I've always considered him the 5th member) about a month ago, he has been doing some music scores for a couple of films. He was also at the IOW doing some recording, was this with Mark? He said that he played one live gig with L42 at Wembley, when was this, and is it available on tape? To all the Americans on the Digest, I was interested in reading an article about the Orca whale that was being released into the wild after his performance in a well-known film. I was just wondering if your President was there to Free Willie? Yes. As a casual fan of baseball over here (it transmits live here at 1-4am) I have been following the 'race for 61'. They were genuinely emotional scenes when Mark levelled and then exceeded the record. I think he's conducted himself superbly and his speeches have been very impressive and heartfelt throughout. I felt really happy for him. As for the World Series being a nonsense of sorts - you could open it up to all the countries in the world and the Americans would still thrash everyone - look what happened in [American] football - so the champs can consider themselves the world champs. Bilal's site > has in as streaming real audio, and not a file that's downloadable, > that I can figure out. The only way that I've been able to do it is as follows (this works with IE3 on a WIN95 machine) 1. Right mouse click on the RealAudio and choose "Save Target as" and save to a file somewhere (e.g. on your desktop) 2. Open the file with an editor (notepad etc) and you will see the URL that points to the audio file (e.g. www.somewhere.com/songs/nicesong.ra), highlight the URL with your mouse and copy it using CTRL-C 3. Paste the URL into the Address Box on your explorer and press ENTER (as if you where typing in a web page address) 4. The real audio file will be downloaded into your temporary internet files folder and will then play. 5. Stop the audio from playing and then copy the file from the temporary internet files folder to wherever you want to keep it. The quickest way to find it is to do a file search on the name of the audio file you downloaded and then drag the file onto your folder/desktop. You will then have a local copy that you can play to your heart's content without having to be online and without having to suffer the "Net congestion, buffering" interruptions which spoil the song. There may be a simpler and more elegant way of doing it but I can't find one. Cheers Ade "Well a thing was said to me, that time's your enemy, it may heal the wounds but it won't hide the scars"
