I've not posted to the list since just after the ILF'98 - I was the one who had just started a new job - kept late by the boss - set off 250 miles, got lost, got too late, came home 250 miles etc etc. Now, thought I might attend something like the Jack Dockerty show - but between those dates I having major dental work! Great eh?! Can't wait for all the new stuff - and seeing the new reactions..... So will Sun Goes Down'98 be a top 10? - is it intended to be? Why was that song choosen? why not Something About You / Leaving Me Now / Running In the Family / Lessons in Love? - Surely more people can remember them? Any comments?.... Bye 4 now. Now if the question was 'how do I obtain a copy of that fair gem of a fanzine 'Word Machine'?' then that would have been acceptable par excellence. OK, he's whispering 'you have to be really stupid not to be able to tell what I'm saying because it's blatently obvious'; a line which was ommitted from the full song because it was basically nonsense. The clown outfit was because Mark was juggling the video shooting with a job at the local circus and didn't have time to change. Right now, that is reserved for 'The Nightfly'. Heck, i even liked some of the tunes on Becker's '10 tracks of Whack' CD. Hey Mike Garcia, relax, sorry to get off topic on ya' bud, but somehow we always wind up chatting about Level 42 again. :-) Yup, I remember the TV show "Fridays', and mostly I remember it sucked, but maybe I'm the only one who didn't like it. People get festive during Thanksgiving and it starts getting cold (a need to snuggle). Viola! Millions of Leos unleashed upon the world nine months later. Plus, we always make our presence known, being lions and all - kings of the jungle and the digest ;-). A new remix of Sun Goes Down with Omar? I can't wait to hear it - I love Omar's smooth voice. His version of Agua de Beber with Incognito on Red, Hot & Rio (where he make Beber into the word baby) is so good. Hopefully it'll be available stateside soon. My bad - ganja man on Fridays was black! I didn't realize my memory was slipping so badly. Speaking of Julia Louis-Dreyfus on SNL, who was the guy who was in skits with her all the time? He wasn't really that funny. The only folks who could hang with Eddie on that show were Joe Piscopo (especially the Frank Sinatra/Stevie Wonder Ebony & Ivory skit - my all time favorite with the two of them) and Mary Gross (who I think was hilarious - where is she now?). Back to the boys. I think people said that they wanted to try and schedule the European version of an ILF around Mark's tour dates, since we know they are happening. I think once that gets straightened out later on this month, people will feel better stepping up. We (or should I say, I) didn't really begin planning this year's fest until late fall. It all really came together from about February on, so let's not panic. People should realize that they have to start saving money for it if they are going, and hopefully a date and place will be settled by the end of October. There are my thoughts. Let's see... Was it 10CC? What do I win for the correct answer? Jack Bruce is another bassist that fits into the "Amazing" category. He and MK are alike in one very important aspect, and that is the advancement of the bass guitar as a solo instrument. One of the reasons that Cream disbanded is that Bruce was as mastered on his instument as Clapton and Baker were on theirs, and as a result Cream became a band of 3 soloists all jockeying for the spotlight and pushing each other to the brink of total chaos but somehow managing to remain as tight as a power trio possibly could under the circumstances. They couldn't carry on that way. Just listen to Bruce's bass guitar work and the work of the band as a whole on "Sittin' On Top of the World". Also, Bruce's work with the first incarnation of Tony Williams Lifetime is worth checking out. Just to spite M.G., thought that I'd mention Steely Dan again on the L42 Digest. LOL. How many of you Levelheads/Dan Fans thought that David Palmer was a great vocalist? I'm listening to "Brooklyn" right now, and his voice just fits that great song as perfectly as it does on "Dirty Work". Too bad they couldn't keep him around as an occasional vocalist. I'm going to watch the Power of Houston on TV this year to avoid the crowds and because Level 42 didn't reunite to perform. Oh well. Nice basses, I was offered one but didn't >have the money at the time. Well, as far as I'm aware that's not the only Pangbourne bass Mark has used. He also had what I'd call the 'Jigsaw' Bass (the body of the guitar looks like it's straight from an under 5's jigsaw puzzle !!). It can been seen in the CH4 programme 'Play at Home' during the 'holiday camp clip' version of 'The Chinese Way'. I think I've seen him use a Pangbourne in a short live set in Europe (Germany ??) also , where Mike looked like Joseph with a funky technicolour coat on !! Jason, no worries mate, I think after my comments, I've just become THE biggest bass player bore in the world.........I think I'd better get back on the tablets...... BTW, I hope Mark gets better promotion with his new solo stuff compared to his last effort, 'Influences'. Judging by the info from digesters, things are looking that way with all the dates for TV appearances etc. I've checked out 'Pamela' from Guitarist .......mmmmm......IMHO, nothing to get too excited about, but what do you expect for a freebie ?! Oh, and before I get slated, no I'm not disappointed because there's no wild bass playing, I just feel it's a space filler and not much more than that.
