From: "Adam Hankinson" Date: Sat, 15 Aug 1998 13:24:04 +0100 Wow! A BIG digest yesterday with lots of interesting points and opinions..... But one thing stood out.....Z said "free beer" My minds made up See you in Orlando ;-) Adz ------------------------------ Subject: Funk Party From: Pat Flanagan Date: Sat, 15 Aug 1998 09:09:59 -0500 >Hey Pat, sounds like a great CD compilation you have. Btw, 'Rapper's Delight' >ripped off 2 songs, not just 'Good Times' by CHIC. Does anyone know what >the other song is? It's used in the intro to the song. Bit of old rap trivia >here. Couldn't say. It's been AGES since I've heard the full unabridged version -- this version's only 5:03 long and starts right with the "Now what you hear is not a test" line. If that's the actual intro, then I'm not hearing any other music, so maybe you're saying the rap was cribbed from somewhere else. >On the "Funk Party" cd, I think it was a travesty to leave out the groups >"Heatwave" and "Kool and the Gang". Heatwave for "Boogie Nights" and KATG >for "Ladies Night", and "Hollywood Swinging". KATG ARE on the CD, with Jungle Boogie (which I'll take any day over Ladies Night and Hollywood Swinging -- both good songs, but Jungle Boogie's funkier because of the nonsensical grunting lyrics, e.g., "git up wit da git down" and "unh unh boogie boogie"). ____________________ PFPD -- newmedia marketing consulting a limited liability company PO Box 281, Granger, IN 46530-0281 v:616.663.2250 -- competitive business advantages through creative technology ------------------------------ Subject: ILF 99 / Mark King's Tour From: Bilal42 @ aol.com Date: Sat, 15 Aug 1998 11:40:19 EDT If we do have an ILF in Europe/London, I would really like to arrange for other band members to be invited. That would be cool. Marks tour: lets prepare a group outing! Loz, I agree, everyone phone your radio stations and write to them! Hey, could we pressure VHF1 to do a Level42 day? Bilal check it out: http://members.aol.com/bilal42 PS. Are there any requests for what people want to see on my page? ------------------------------ Subject: unhelpful gits...!!!! From: Nick Brazier Date: Sat, 15 Aug 1998 11:00:06 -0400 Hiya everyone, I asked about info on Sun Goes Down '98 and Marks single today in Virgin Megastore and got laughed at by suggesting that Level 42 will have something new out... Please help me so I don't kill this person! But he did think he had heard something about Mike releasing something, but thats probably a load of balls too! (he thought he knew about Level 42 a bit so I had to put him right - well, what else could I do!) thats it for now oh yeah, capital radio do have a website (think it capitalfm.com - but do quote me on that!!!) tcoy Jonathan ------------------------------ Subject: Bits &Pieces From: gbsc @ vossnet.co.uk (great britain ice hockey supporters club) Date: 15 Aug 1998 20:02:43 -0000 Hi all, Been busy recently, but have finally got round to catching up on the digests and at last replying! Firstly, I came across a copy of LEVEL 42 THE REMIXES on CD a few weeks back and was wondering if anyone knows if the version of Starchild included in the Ben Liebrand Hit combination is available in it's full version anywhere? If not is there a similar faster and funkier version than the original? Secondly, a few weeks back some people were writing in about other Brit funk stuff, which got me searching the vaults of my vinyl collection reminiscing! Among the items I rediscovered was a mini LP on Champagne records called BEST OF UK JAZZ FUNK. The album featured the much famed Double Journey by Powerline, a version of which was on the flip of Sandstorm on Elite. Also on the album ar Mr Mack - Inversions Friends again - Not james players Slide - Rah band Love money - TW funkmasters. Listening to this got me really into it all again and i followed with Badness - Morissey mullen Parisiene girl - Incognito and Round Trip - Light of the world. I am now gradually working my way through the old vinyl and regaining (well trying) my youth!! Steve Mountford posted about Caister and the Soul weekenders and mentioned Robbie Vincent and Froggy, well the weekenders were unreal, as was the Robbie Vincent show, listened to religiously every Saturday (I still have some tapes of the show somewhere) Finally, with regards to the ILF I understand that people wish to have the thing in their own back yard but surely if it's held in the IOW at least you should be aassured of Mark's presence at Jo's. Mybe even Phil or Mike etc could be persuaded to show this time? Can you be sure of this anywhere else in the world?? Also dependent on Mark's tour dates perhaps it could involve this? If Holland does get the casting vote than I have no doubt that it will be a success. The people of Nederlands are happy, friendly and very hospitable people, as I have learned on my three trips to Eindhoven so far. Judging by Mark's choice in women he feels the same way!! Perhaps a trip to Holland could even be combined with the IOW using the Eurostar and Brtish rail??? See ya Allan ------------------------------ Subject: The long road to Orlando From: DonZipf @ aol.com Date: Sat, 15 Aug 1998 16:11:18 EDT > + Orlando is the biggest tourest trap in the entire civilized world No question about it, Pat. So what's your point? It is a tourist destination (the most popular in the world); natuarally, there are souvenir stores everywhere...duh! But if you get off the interstate, central Florida can be quite appealing. > + That wonderful combo Heat & 110% Humidity Once again, I say, that's only true if you make the mistake of going there in the summer. > I have been to Orlando twice now, and it was one time too many. Many inexperienced visitors feel that way, because they went there not knowing what they were in for. I've done it enough to know how to avoid the usual tourist pitfalls. But, come now, we're scaring people - it really is a nice place to visit. > Don, regarding your post...SOLD! Are you a salesman? I'm ready to pack my > luggage and head to Orlando already. Thanks, Jennifer. The campaign is working! Tomorrow, the world!!! > I only wish there were some link between Level 42 & Orlando. Didn't you see Dave's post about Mark getting his scar there? Here it is: > How and where exactly did he get messed up like that? On a ride at Disney > World? Someone said it was alcohol related... whoops! Stay offa' Space > Mountain, man! That was it exactly - Mark cut himself riding Space Mountain while completely pissed! And we shall follow in his mighty footsteps...hang on to your hats, mates!!! Actually, the real reason I want to have the ILF there is to get a photo of Adz's face on The Tower of Terror. Got the idea from that picture of him with Mark at this year's ILF. I figger his expression will be about the same! ;o) Cheers - Z. [I'll second that last comment... I have kids and I would love to take them and all to Orlando but I don't think that would be too cool for the group. Sounds like mostly every one here is single. Does anyone else have tag alongs (children) that they would be bringing if this thing was in Orlando? later, laura ------------------------------ Subject: Yoohoo From: "Allwyn & Laura Kelly" Date: Sun, 16 Aug 1998 00:49:17 -0700 Paging n6ut.................paging n6ut.
