He has played with Seal, Steve Howe and Gary Numan, and recently > worked with Kim Wilde and Belinda Carlisle--some other 80s sensations! Let's not forget his work with my all-time favorite group, Iona! Anyone who likes awe inspiring World/New Age-y type music, with huge keyboards, traditional Irish instruments, and rippin' electric guitar (when they slip into their Yes/Genesis/all good classic rock mode) must check them out! Nick played on The Book of Kells, but their latest double live CD "Heaven's Bright Sun" is a great cross-section of all their music. Paul Hammond, are you out there? The money for my Bassist mag is still poised over the mailbox... just waiting to make sure you have one for me :^) ------------------------------- Chris Staunton chriss @ pcsupplies.com ...gotta get back to BASSics... ------------------------------- ------------------------------ Subject: Birdland From: Lolitaj @ aol.com Date: Fri, 7 Aug 1998 09:04:21 EDT About Jennie's boyfriend - to the guy who said most replies were narrow minded, I think many of the people were trying to be funny. There were a few that were serious, but I got the impression that most people were kidding. Lighten up! Birdland - now that is a classy song. The Weather Report version is a classic, and the Quincy Jones 'Black on the Block' (a joke among my friends) version is great because so many folks are on it, but my favorite one is the Manhattan Transfer version. Janis Siegal does some dynamite scatting, particularly when she mimics the guitar solo at the end of the song, and the harmonies are top notch. I must admit i am impressed with your vocabulary (i had to look up that otiose ) or did you just happen to get Readers Digest and was dieing to use a new word? however i must agree, the 80's compilations are functionless and i prefer my own mix straight out of my record collection. still waiting for the Reissues! eric ------------------------------ Subject: Dilemmas + such From: Bruce_Conrad @ harvardpilgrim.org Date: Fri, 7 Aug 1998 14:48:40 -0400 Steve wroted (bad grammar intended): In regards to the Philips CD recorder... ---thanks for the tip. that's cool. I've been trying to decide what kind of CD-R to buy, and that may seal it. (although I forget which model was mentioned, unless it works with all of them). I'll have to check the last digest. ------------------------------ The Outfield is about to release their new album... ---one of my favorite bands! thanks for the info on many other good bands as well. ------------------------------ Jennie's dilemma: another Steve writes:... Judge your boyfriend by his character and the devotion/love he shows toward you, not on his musical tastes, which tend to develop and change over time...uh...that is, unless your as narrow minded as many of the people who've responded to your question so far. ---Be Nice!! (you won't get too far criticizing your fellow L42 fans here) I agree that musical tastes do change, but come on! I like some heavy metal/hard rock, but M.Manson + Sepultura? I can't see the appeal of these bands. It DOES say something about your Current state of mind if you listen to this crap. also, bummer for Boston folks and used record shoppers - a fire in Kenmore Sq. destroyed the Planet records shop this morning. I don't know how bad it is yet, but there were no human injuries...I suppose they'll be having a fire sale soon. anyways, back to Level 42. I'll be wearing my Level 42 shirt in Prague while I'm there. Beautiful track!! And a great bass player as well. Anyone know what has become of him? "Fish Magic" is on their album called NEON. Cheers from the Midwest!
