Some other dudes got their stuff only yesterday (sent in the twenties of December 97)... So be patient I guess ... (I hope) 2 Mark - I lost my harddisk, including many pix of our boys... f**k ! For the rest.... What's the status of the Int Levelfest (* ILF98 *) ??? When (july?), where (London?), who (will MK come/can we book'em?) etc etc... so long and big shout to 'Ahola' Eric! Dirkies gettin' ready for ther LLLF2 (yep, I only go for 2 weeks to Chicago beginning of March) ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V98 #20 From: Lolitaj Organization: AOL (http://www.aol.com) Date: Tue, 27 Jan 1998 09:04:35 EST Just one thought on Gresham Blues... It has always reminded me of a Saturday Night Live band segue, right before they go to a commercial. Speaking of the band, they haven't been the same since the old days when they had people like Marcus Miller. Remember that annoying blond guy with the ponytail who played guitar and thought he was so great in early 90's? I really hated him, even though he wasn't so bad of a player. Lolita ------------------------------ Subject: Musing musing musing From: Chuck Roehm Date: Tue, 27 Jan 1998 15:36:40 +0000 In yesterday's installment of musings, it was written: > The songs that people submitted are just opinions, and opinions >can't be 'wrong' - there are always people that won't agree, and that's the >point. Bravo, Lolita, bravo! You are always right on the mark, putting things in proper prospective. You're such a levelheaded woman; our paths should've crossed somewhere in the past. (Maybe in a future life) Then Winman mused: >Shuf, i agree with Eric on getting Weller's first solo album. It is by Robocop's putting out records now? What's the world coming to?? Whoa, kids, uncle Chuck's on a roll now. It's time to jump on the current bandwidthwagon and tell you what MY least favorites are (I know you want to know) Early Tapes: Love meeting blech (but hey, this was the beginning of pure musical genius) Level 42: Love Games; only, I guess, because it's overplayed; and who's fault is that?? :-/ POA: You know, I can't think of one. Perhaps the most perfect album ever. Well... S in the L: (Living It Up)(The Sun Goes Down) I can't even remember which part goes in parenthesis True C: Hours by the blech; just plain weird, in my book Physical Presence: The Chant World Machine (US): The Chant R in the F: Lessons in Love; just kind of boring to me S at the S: Hours by the Window. Oh no, that's from TC. I meant Staring at the Sun (same genre', don't you think?) G'teed: The Ape FN: Don't Bother... AYGoB: Freedom - yech, it just grates on me (not to be confused w/Freedom Someday - what a happy little tune that is) I do skip these tunes, but, stranded on a deserted island with only a tape of these songs, I'd still survive quite nicely (given I had a Walkman to play them on) Now, Phillip my man: >As Years Go By - *never heard this one* You better get on your horse and get a copy of this, otherwise you be denied any further admission to our little treehouse and you'll be laughed at like Rudolph. ;-) Zap, tell 'im how to get one. Hey, Chinese Way haters: What is it about the song you don't like? Take away the kind of korny lyrics, which I can tolerate, and the music is really catchy, don't you think? Sorry this was so long and giddy, but maybe this equation will splain it fer ya: 2 crying 2-month olds @ 4 in the mornin' = 1 Nutso dude. First of all L42 isn't credited as (co)-writers of any of the tracks. I listened to it (briefly) and didn't recognize any L42-sound. And the song '1,2,3' is definitely not a cover of guaranteed. Too bad, always wondering how other artists cover L42. Ernst-Jan van der Hee ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Freedom Someday, are you ready to make the deal? Level 42 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Subject: chat / cover From: Mighty Maomoondog Date: Tue, 27 Jan 1998 20:20:06 +0100 Hey everybody - I checked the Level42 Chat Room last sunday - and low and behold, there were actually 2 people there! (Thanks again for pink.wav, MisterPink!) But of course, there should be about 500 people there! ;-) Oh well... Dirkies, about that Level 42 cover you mentioned, I know the song "Ik Tel Tot Drie" by superdork (yes indeedee) Guus Meeuwis, but I cannot hear any resemblence to Guaranteed whatsoever. Maybe he released two different versions, but the one I know sounds as much like Guaranteed as Guaranteed sounds like Bohemian Rhapsody. When his latest cd came out a few months ago, I remember checking the liner notes for some familiar names, but I didn't find any. Well, that'll be all for today... Oh yeah! I almost forgot! I got the tape containing the missing tracks from the LAW cd... great! Especially Tracie... that song just rules. Pretty weird bass solo though... OK kids... see y'all later! Lolita wrote; hey All, > >* I just wanted to make a brief comment about songs that are people's least >favorites. The songs that people submitted are just opinions, and opinions >can't be 'wrong' - there are always people that won't agree, Well, i can't remember anyone saying that another one's opinion were wrong. Its just that when you hear someone telling that he/she doesn't like a particular song you love, you want to explain why you disagree. I wonder wether playing an instrument has influence on the songs you like. I found many times that learning to play a bassline would drag me more into a song. This has also an opposite effect. For example; Lessons in love was great in the beginning, but because the bass-line is so straightforward, i don't feel the need to play it so much as I used to do. (Though I like the Live at Wembley version, especially the end of the song !) I think that that is one of the great things about Mark, Mike, Phil, Boon, Wally and the rest.......they seem to have a song for everyone....no matter the background...... Dammit! The A side is extended. Throughout the song (Are you hearing what I hear) there is sounds not on the album version; some keyboard here, some guitar there. And yes, it goes into an extended ending not on the album, I think the instrumental bridge starts out with some music not on the album, it sound too long. I am telling you this because, I am wondering if all the other 12" A sides are extended with extra stuff? That would be Love Games, Turn it on, Starchild, and Sun goes down. Do these songs have alternate single versions? I think it was a mistake not to include Are you hearing what I hear? and any other extended single version on As Years Go By. Why wasn't Freedom A Go Go on AYGB? I am sorry not all of you have this BETTER version of Are you hearing? And I'm sorry I only have it on a crackily old record. Sucks that there are still rarities out there. ------=_NextPart_000_0004_01BD2B6C.1054D7E0 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
