From: The Saint Date: Mon, 03 Aug 1998 11:04:55 -0400 Last night I saw the Hojo/Human League/Culture Club tour in Holmdel, NJ, and unlike the description for the Atlanta show, the crowd was going nuts the whole time. Jersery Shore traffic prevented me from seeing all of Howard Jones, but I did see a few songs and saw a bass solo with a person who looked and sounded EXACTLY like Mark King, and I swear he said his last name was King. Anyway, the show was great and it was being taped for TV (Boy George pointed this out) so you may all be able to see it. The show had everyone (including my 50 year old parents) up and dancing. By the time HoJo did "Things Can Only Get Better" and The Human League did "Fascination" the house was shakin' and movin. It was like being sent back in time to 1985 and boy was it great!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, that's all for now........ Cheers. paul F ------------------------------ Subject: Where is Mike Lindup??? From: ALBERT42 @ aol.com Date: Mon, 3 Aug 1998 12:02:55 EDT Hello Levelheads, I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything about Mike Lindup lately. Also, does anyone know if he is a Richard Marx fan? I could have sworn that I saw Mike at Richard's concert in Chastain Park in at Atlanta on July 26th of last year. I meant to approach this person to find out but never got a chance to. He was with a blonde haired lady, very attractive at that. By the way, if you haven't checked out Mike Lindup's solo album Changes, it is well worth it. As far as I know, it is only available as an import. The one that I got was from Resurgence and I ordered it through Audiophile Imports at http://cyboard.com/audiophile.html. See ya ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V98 #208 From: DonZipf @ aol.com Date: Mon, 3 Aug 1998 14:03:16 EDT > I seem to remember seeing Howard Jones in Australia on the Dream into > Action tour. At that time his brother was the bass player. Can anyone > confirm this ? Well, I know that was his brother faking the bass in the "Things Can Only Get Better" video. The actual recorded bass line was, of course, played by Howard on an Emulator II sampling keyboard. Peace - Z. ------------------------------ Subject: more from the 80's music scene From: "Eric J. Hansen" Organization: Worldmachine Technologies Corporation Date: Mon, 3 Aug 1998 18:19:21 -0400 (EDT) After seeing some TV commercial about a zillion times with a familiar soundtrack (AT&T?), I decided that I needed to get the song "Life In A Northern Town" (by Dream Academy) on CD. A quick search through the CDDB database turns up dozens of 80's compilations that have this song, but I found a real winner called _The Eighties Mix_, which I special ordered from Amazon.com for US$26 (2CD). For those interested, it's a straight through mix (great for parties -- no silence between tracks!) with both regular versions and extended remixes of your fave 80's songs: CD1: 1. Call Me (12" Mix) [Blondie] 2. Tainted love / Where Did Our Love Go (12" Mix) [Soft Cell] 3. Enola Gay [OMD] 4. Love Will Tear Us Apart (12" Mix) [Joy Division] 5. Blue Monday (Original 12" Mix) [New Order] 6. Planet Earth [Duran Duran] 7. Small Town Boy [Bronski Beat] 8. Don't Leave Me This Way (12" Mix) [The Communards] 9. Quiet Life [Japan] 10. Everybody wants To Rule The World [Tears For Fears] 16. Pop Muzik [M] 17. Wonderful Life [Black] CD2: 1. Relax [Frankie Goes...] 2. Don't You Want Me (12" Mix) [Human League] 3. Sometimes (12" Mix) [Erasure] 4. Fade To Grey [Visage] 5. Chant No. 1 [Spandau Ballet] 6. The Look Of Love [ABC] 7. Waterfront [Simple Minds] 8. Love On Your side [Thompson Twins] 9. [search the 'net] Yes he does. It's a double CD of new and old stuff. I also saw his new VHS tape at Media Play this weekend (I think it was unplugged live stuff). He has a house here in Nashville now. He looks a lot different (not much hair now). He played here a couple of weeks ago. I didn't go because I didn't find out about it until the day of. Someone I work with knows him (they both are from Austin, TX), and went to see the show. He got him to sign a piece of paper for me (woah). He signed it 'Chris Cross' (remember the kid group Kriss Kross or whatever :) He also did some backup vocals on Eric Johnson's latest CD (came out a year or two ago). They're good friends. EJ is from Austin too (still lives there I think). Brian.
