From: jcvaeth @ juno.com (john c vaeth) Date: Fri, 03 Jul 1998 11:06:11 EDT Thought I'd put in my two cents about "The Ape". One of the things I love about the band is that even in lesser songs they have bits that just SHINE. "Ape" is like this. I love the weird vocals in the 'nature's creature stands uuuupriiiiiiight' bit. Love the jungle noises! I think this tune works as one of those mystical Level 42 songs. A bit of a throwoff, admittedly. "Starchild" is the same for me, but that BRIDGE!! Totally redeems the song. ------------------------------ Subject: Unavailable magazines From: "Patrick Key" Date: Fri, 3 Jul 1998 20:56:46 +0200 Hi! In the past I have noticed that a lot of people can't seem to get their hands on this or that magazine. I went to the nearest local paper/magazine store which was an 'International press' (IP) - member where I live in Sweden and now i get for example 'Bass Player' with a delay of four days :-/ Good luck! My personal favourite from the master himself (also in response to being told not to end sentences in prepositions): "Ending a sentence in a preposition is something up with which I will not put." M ------------------------------ Subject: me again... From: Nick Brazier Date: Fri, 3 Jul 1998 16:22:08 -0400 Its that strange englishman again!! Just thought I'd tell you about a compilation I just bought including Level 42. Its called Classic Groove "Brit Funk" - classic 12" tracks...... Its got The Chinese Way on it (I think its the new york remix??), also some other good and bad stuff! Its got : Hi Tension, Linx, Light Of The World, Beggar & Co, Freez, Phil Fearon & Galaxy, Shakatak, I-Level, Central Line, Junior and Imagination on it. Some nice bass work on some of tracks, and brass work that reminds me of Incognito... Oh yeah, ref no. of that cd - AHLCD 40, on "The Hit Label" Mentioning Junior, my girlfriend said when she was at early Level 42 gigs Junior would be there every time, usually standing on a chair clapping and dancing away, her and her mates used to go nuts seeing L 42 and Junior in the same room - lucky girls! (ahhh, the advantages of an older woman! ) Did anyone else see Junior there? Any other famous sightings at Level 42 gigs?? My sister sat two seats away from Phil Collins at a Sting gig - is that a good start? I met Jakko at a Sam Brown gig, I'm probably starting another thing here like the best instrumentals thing!! ".... one eternal moment in time...." Jonathan =o Þ ------------------------------ Subject: Gary Husband video From: "WHATSUPDOC" Date: Sat, 4 Jul 1998 01:31:39 -0600 In response to Mike Bartlett's post, the Gary Husband video is available, at least in the US, through Audiophile Imports. They can be reached at www.cyboard.com/audiophile.html They also have an extensive listing of primarily jazz and fusion from around the world and I find them to be an excellent resource for information on the latest fusion releases. They also stock Level 42 CD's as well as the Influences CD, Mike's solo album and Alan Murphy's SFX. Hope this helps, Steve H
