I have the task of getting several for my American friends and have since found out that you can phone a credit card order on the following telephone number and they will send it to you directly. +44 (0) 1458 271105 they have two emails (I know of) subs @ futurenet.co.uk (I think for orders) and bassist @ futurenet.co.uk (I think this is for general questions/comments) there main web site URL is: http://www.musiciansnet.co.uk Good luck. Adam P.S. tell them to send any commisions to Adz in Leicester ;-) ------------------------------ Subject: RE: Bassist mags From: Paul Hammond Date: Tue, 30 Jun 1998 12:51:54 -0000 Hello, In the light of Adam Hankinson's posting today with the phone number of Bassist's subscriptions and back issues dept, can everyone who still wants me to get them an actual copy of the mag email me at paul @ bassnet.demon.co.uk. I reckon getting the old credit card out and getting Future Music Publishing to send the mag straight to you may be a better bet.... but, I'll still do whatever for whoever wants it... Those of you who wanted just a photocopy of the article it will be on it's way out soon. Just one last thought .. would it be a complete waste of my time if I "re-created" the article as a web page somewhere, with the layout and graphics and text as in the mag .. that way, everyone could see it at no cost! :) PH. Eliminate. 8) Analogies in writing are like feathers on a snake. 9) Go around the barn at high noon to avoid colloquialisms 10) Don't use, comma's or apostrophes's that, are unnecesary Well theres my top ten checklist (the rules by which I always write to the digest, so for those who have questioned me 'Loz, how come you write so well' know you now) Anyway, onto Level 42. I have now concluded that although a US Early Tapes was planned, it was never released, anyone who knows otherwise, speak now of forever hold your peas. German 'Early Tapes'? Anyone? Well thats me, my dinner hour over, off I go back to work. But I just couldn't leave the digest on Tuesday the 30th of June 1998 without mentioning that England play Argentina in the world cup tonight. For those of you who didn't know, we had a war (literally) with Argentina about 20 years ago and in 1986 in the world cup a man called 'Diego Maradona' used his hand to put the ball into the net and in an act of sportsmanship that has been described as the most pitiful display of bad sportmanship and cheating in the history of sport anywhere, he went on to celebrate as though he had scored fairly, and the goal was allowed. Now, 12 years later we have a chance to show that we can win by fair play so COME ON ENGLAND. Yours passionatley.......................................LOZ ------------------------------ Subject: Whistle, Bassist distribution From: "Greg Jamate" Date: Tue, 30 Jun 1998 08:45:15 -0400 There are a few comments recently about how the person blowing the whistle adds character to the live recordings. Do you honestly enjoy these sounds? When the band hits a break in a song I enjoy to hear the break. I don't want to hear some Herbert blowng his ego for a chance to get onto record. I've noticed this in many live recordings and it's annoying. I would like to also get a copy of the 'Bassist' issue with Mark. Anyone willing to help send copies to the US? All costs will be covered. Thanks, Greg ------------------------------ Subject: The Jazz Cafe, UK Levelfest in October From: Lolitaj @ aol.com Date: Tue, 30 Jun 1998 08:43:00 EDT Even though I can't go, I decided to try to help out by calling Ria and asking her directly. I just missed her (she leaves every Tuesday at noon, which is 7AM my time). I will call her next Tuesday morning bright and early and ask her directly. If I tell her it is the same crew that she met in May and that some people are coming from the States just for the show, I think she will hook me up with some answers. That would be a bummer if it was cancelled, but I'm sure he is doing some sort of tour in October (I hope so - that's when I'm going). Speaking of my trip, I am going back to England for some informational job interviews (I'm looking into moving there next year). So far my dates are October 1-5. Anybody up for a fest? To date Andy, Bilal and Adam said they were interested, and I think Daniel James (the one from Seattle) said he will come the same time I'm there. I have the feeling that most of the folks who can/will come were at the ILF, so just e-mail that list. BTW, I am not organizing it - I just want to be a participant for once in my life. See ya! Very RITF-ish. cool song. tcoy eric ------------------------------ Subject: Hammersmith From: steve.bugster @ virgin.net Date: Tue, 30 Jun 1998 17:36:52 -0700 When, oh when are they going to release the Hammersmith concerts as a CD. The lads were there for 15 nights, thats longer than Elton John, if you'll pardon the expression. I went to two of them, but at niether did they do Love Games. Capital Radio broadcast a concert which I didn't attend and they did Love Games but all the listener got was the first few chords and then the Bloody news. Absolute tragedy. I taped what there was and apart from the dickhead DJ talking over and playing jingles over the music, the tape I got is brilliant. Those concerts were in my opinion the best ever. In retrospect I think the band never bettered those after that. Perhaps the rot had set in. I'm sure that version of Love Games must have been magnificent. Somebody must have heard it for real. Steve Randall ------------------------------ Subject: location of FN shoot From: "Bowman, Brian J. (McConnell AFB)" Date: Tue, 30 Jun 1998 13:42:10 -0500 I know this may have been asked before, but I wasn't sure how to search for it. Where were the Resurgence Forever Now photos shot? It looks like some kind of amusement park or museum, with a rail car in front. Does anyone know where this is? I think the most interesting part of the bios has been what people listen to (on road trips, presumably) other than Level 42. There have been several of the same groups/artists that keep popping up. And hurrah, hurrah for the mention or two of Thomas Dolby's "The Flat Earth" (I can't remember who also listed this album besides me). The bass player on that album - I think his name was Matthew Seligman or something like that - was very good. That record was just too far ahead of its time, people never grasped it. Oh well, sorry for dawdling on an off-topic. (McConnell AFB)" Date: Tue, 30 Jun 1998 14:45:34 -0500 To those who were wondering about the whistles on the live shows (like Physical Presence), some info ... I was reading old Digests from '94 and David Crowson wrote in one that he was part of a group of die-hard fans called the "whistle brigade" who made the whistle sounds and saw dozens of L42 concerts during the 80s, following the band all over the place. I met Crowson about a year ago while I was doing some Air Force Reserve duty in the UK last August ... and I can't remember if he mentioned the whistle thing to me, but he was a big, big fan of the band. He cycled up from London to Mildenhall (a U.S.-British air base) just to have a few beers with me. I haven't seen Dave posting on the digest in quite a while and wonder what happened to him. Are you out there, buddy? Of course, without this great Digest, I'd have never met him or some of the Texas Digesters and whoever I meet in the future. Thanks, Eric Hansen! Bo [yer welcome... They are the music books as follows: Staring at the Sun World Machine These books are impossible to find in the US and are mint (just as I received them today in the mail). I'll have to charge what they cost me at $22.00 each or both for $44.00 which DOES include shipping in the US only. If anyone wants one or both, let me know.
