From: Level00042 @ aol.com Date: Sun, 28 Jun 1998 10:25:07 EDT I have been on the digest a year now. I don't think anyone has said a word about one of my favorite songs. TO BE WITH YOU AGAIN. The song just seems to go and go. The video is one of the best also. Just wondered what everyone else thinks of the song. From: Wesley Holley Date: Sun, 28 Jun 1998 22:49:33 -0600 I had a question for all of you running on the MACos. Have any of you designed a Level 42 Kaleidoscope color scheme? I started one a few months back but never got around to finishing it. I'd be interested in seeing what any of you have done. Just a little curious. Wes the good man in a storm ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Jazz Cafe From: Andrew Goodwin Date: Mon, 29 Jun 1998 09:01:42 +0100 Of all the venues to pick, did it really have to be the wretched Jazz Cafe? Bad enough that it's in the most foul, sprawling, wasteland in the country (London); worse yet, it's miles away up the Northern Line. Worst of all, it does exactly what it says on the can - it is a jazz cafe. So the ground floor is primarily standing room, with about four tables at the back, and the balcony upstairs is a restaurant. Which is fine unless the restaurant gets full, and they decide to serve food at the tables downstairs. Anybody who's had the misfortune to attend Ronnie Scott's in Soho will know that sitting among diners is not the best way to enjoy music. The last time I was at the Jazz Cafe, the show I'd gone to see was ruined by a table of tourists (it might be prudent not to mention their nationality in this company) who clearly had no interest in the music whatsoever, and yapped endlessly throughout. And if you're wondering why I didn't move out of earshot, this place is tiny, the furthest you can get from the stage is about 20 yards (which makes for a great atmosphere if it's just full of music enthusiasts). So bear in mind, tickets will be at a premium. I'll try and give them a ring today and see what they know. I used to be on their mailing list, so I should have the number somewhere. -- Andrew Goodwin ===================================================== AAARGHH! http://staff.ndl.co.uk/mike/aaarghh!/records/default.htm ===================================================== "My lawyer will call your lawyer." "I don't have a lawyer. Have him call my doctor..." ------------------------------ Subject: Mark's Bassist Interview... From: Paul Hammond Date: Mon, 29 Jun 1998 09:32:46 -0000 Guys and Girls, I just read the Bassist interview and thought I'd give you a very quick idea of what is going on... o The gigs will include about 45 minutes from the new album and 45 minutes of Level 42 stuff. o The new album has very little (if any) slap bass, and on the track "Resupply" he even plays a stand-up electric bass...! o He played a Fender Jazz Deluxe on 80% of the album and is now using Ashdown amps... o The Level 42 stuff is "currently being CD remastered by Polydor for September release" o "The Sleepwalkers" is one of Mark's personal favorites. o Boon co-wrote a lot of the CD (as we know), but apparently, Phil was in there a little too. And how about a little quote from the mag - "I did what had to be done, bass-wise, for the songs. That's my job as a bass-player, instead of the old 'hang on a minute, don't forget I'm Thunder Thumbs, wick-wock-wacky, off I go', snapping the crap out of everything. No! It's simply not required on these tracks. So with this new Ashdown bass head, plugged in, DI'd out, and when I played one note, the sound went 'bowww...'. I thought, 'Yeah! Thank you!' Now I don't need to go humpityhumpityhumpityhump-they're under starters orders ladies 'n' gennelmen...'," he cackles wickedly, mock-slapping an air bass in order to drive the point home. "For the first time, I can enjoy sitting on that one note, because the bloody note stays there!" And another (fairly important I think) quote - "...there's nothing to say that in a couple of years, Mike and I might not do another Level 42 record, but it's not right to do it again now." Well, I can copy the article for you peeps that can't get a hold of it, just let me know who wants it!!
