From: "Mike Bartlett" Date: Thu, 25 Jun 1998 23:11:01 PDT Wow, this is daunting. I feel like I'm about to dive off the top of a huge building into a sea of Level 42 fans. I'm new around here (only joined the Digest yesterday) so be gentle with me.... NAME: Mike Bartlett LOCATION: Coogee Beach, Sydney, Australia HOW I GOT INTO LEVEL 42: I was at a disco/pub/hotel place on the seafront at Cowes called The Gloster (anyone been there?) I was talking to some friends, when the DY played the most brilliant song I'd heard in ages - The Chinese Way. I asked the DJ, Andy, who it was, and he was disgusted that I hadn't heard of them. "They're locals, you pillock!" But I'd only been on the island for a short while, living in Gurnard - I'm originally from Brighton. OTHER STUFF: I have (I think) all their cds, plus lots of vinyl albums and 7" and 12" singles. I've seen them live six times - Brighton (x2), Guildford, Worthing, Hammersmith Odeon (x2). I myself play a black Status copy (Washburn), and would dearly love a JayDee. I've only seen one in Australia, in Sydney's only specialist bass shop, The Bass Player. It felt beautiful to hold and play, not that I could do the things that the King does on it! It's hard sometimes, being a Levelite in Australia - the boys were never real big over here, so it's difficult to find anyone 'in the know'. There's some Level 42 stuff I'd like to get hold of, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Maybe someone out there could point me in the right direction. I hope someone reads this - I'm a late developer netwise and this is the first time I've posted anything. I have more to say and a million questions, so until next time.... ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: Level 42: The Definitive Biography From: "Mike Bartlett" Date: Thu, 25 Jun 1998 23:29:12 PDT Hi there, fellow Levelites... This is my second offering to the Digest. I got hold of a book a few years ago in America called Level 42: The Definitive Biography by Michael Cowton (ISBN 0-283-99837-7) first published in the UK in 1989 by Sidgwick & Jackson Limited. Most of you probably know about it, but those of you who don't, there you go.... Does anyone know of any other books available? I'm also after a couple of videos and a songbook - more on that later. It's hard to get Level 42 stuff (beyond their cds) in Australia. Cheers, Mike. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: Shall I answer that or does somebody else want it From: "Green, Laurence F" Date: Fri, 26 Jun 1998 09:31:00 +0100 Shall I answer that or can someone else take it? :-) As the only level 42 fan in existence with a number of copies of one single Level 42 item such that when placed on top of each other they are significant greater than the height of my house, I have to admit, YES, I DO know about the biography.
