Here in the Bay Area I know of 2 particular stations who have played Level 42 with some frequency, LIVE 105.3 (the Modern Rock station) and KKSF 103.7 (Smooth Jazz). While LIVE 105 plays mostly the more pop-oriented tunes (I can recall SAY and Guaranteed particularly), KKSF had "Good Man in a Storm" in its morning line-up for a long time (I remember waking up to it :) ), they also played cuts from Forever Now - mostly LIAPW before I even knew about the album. Luckily I was able to track down an shop in Berkley that deal mostly in imports and pre-ordered a copy before it was even available in the states. As regards Guaranteed, I first heard the title track while shopping at Macy's. I about went outta my head! I have to say that I love this album. There is a certain maturity about the songs; they deal with a lot more than bubblegum pop (IMHO). Just listen to the lyrics in My Father's Shoes or A Kinder Eye. I agree that musically it may not be as innovative as some of their earlier stuff or even Forever Now, but I believe that the journey is more important than the destination and that this album was in some ways an experiment in style and quite bold for a band that gained its greatest popularity in the midst of a lot of 80's fluff. (Please don't mis-read this. I'm definitely NOT saying that L42s stuff is fluff!) I also think that this album came out of some really raw emotion and soul searching (read the breakup of Mark's marriage).
