AG ------------------------------ Subject: hello From: Nick Brazier Date: Tue, 16 Jun 1998 07:24:29 -0400 Hi to all out there! Did anyone out there go to the Nik Kershaw concert?? I heard he had a throat infection! Just going through my old records etc and found Princes "Lets Work", good funky groove, a bit like the ahem titled track "Head" of his as well. Has anyone got an cd by a band called Madhouse? I've only heard one track called "17" on a comilation cd on Princes record label, and it was quite a nice groovy insrumental. Does anyone out there like Guarateed that much?? You all seem not to put it in your faves list... When it came out it was so powerful and new sounding I suppose it took us by suprise! But it I think its an amasing album, Holdsworth sound great with them, as he did at Hammersmiths 15 night tour thing! Also I wondered what peoples favorite instumental of thiers is, its either got to be "43" or "88", but I love them all, but their worst track (in my oppinion) has got to be "Three Words" (b-side to Tracie) It really is a limp song! But we've got to love it as its them! Anyway take care out there Jonathan ------------------------------ Subject: September! From: "Benedict Poole" Date: Tue, 16 Jun 1998 13:40:46 +0100 What a month September will be! New albums from Mark & Nik Kershaw!! Er, that's all. Just thought I'd drop in and say hello. It's been a while. Oh yes, can't remember if I've told the list or not--there will be a new L42 fan in about 6-7 weeks! Bilal, you're a funny dude: "Sandra Bullock of music"... that's one that made me (and I'm sure a few others out there) chuckle. Anyway, I didn't get any responses the first time I posted these questions, so I'll give it a go one more time. If I don't get an answer this time, I'm going to have to resort to leaving the digest, leaving my job, traveling the road on foot from town to town and using my kung-fu skills to help the common people with their various problems... 1. Was there ever a Level 42 show that Wally Badarou sat in on? 2. On Wally's "Words of a Mountain" CD, the liner notes say something about him producing a Herbie Hancock CD in the near future. What ever happened about that? 3. Does anyone know if Wally produced or made any contributions to Mark King's new solo CD? Peace, Jim P.S. Check out Rebecca Johnson's web-site if you haven't already! There's a link from the level 42 webpage. She's fantastic! If we're all talking about putting a lot of energy into bring Mark over to the states, we should go the extra step and fly her up here to open! But don't ask me to help because I'll be traveling on foot town to town... ------------------------------ Subject: Re MK's new album From: Bill Leslie-Miller Date: Wed, 17 Jun 1998 13:50:50 +0000 Levelheads So according to Loz...Mark's album will now be called 'One Man' has he decided to change it in the last 4/5 weeks ? or was he winding us up when he told us it was to be called 'Barking Moon' ??? Loz ??? Bill Miller ------------------------------ Subject: Barking Moon up wrong tree From: "Green, Laurence F" Date: Tue, 16 Jun 1998 15:47:00 +0100 Bill, I think Mark was pulling your leg when he said 'Barking Moon'. The premise on which I base this is when he told me it was 'one man', he was a bit angry at the time because I had accused him of 'scrapping' his first album, I felt very embarrased, but it was just the first thing that came to mind. Anyway, thats how Im pretty sure it's 'One Man' LOZ ------------------------------ Subject: Word Machine From: "LOZ Green" Date: Tue, 16 Jun 1998 16:34:02 +0100 Hi all, Just to answer a few questions I have been getting privately: I reckon the fanzine will be ready in about 1 months. but I keep hearing new things sending me down new avenues of research, but I'm looking at 1 months. I have had a couple of good offers of help with printing, on over in the US that may prove difficult though. Most copies will be printed on my HP 690c and the actual quality won't be *excellent* but it will be a refreshing change to see clear color pictures. Also if I sella ton I'll buy a better printer, but in the main the whole thing will be on a strict non profit basis. Whilst I'm, here I should explain. I am intending to charge 2 pounds in the UK for a copy. But this amonut includes P&P AND notification by post of the arrival of the next issue. That way I don't loose and circulation by people not knowing the next issue is out. This one issue subscription kind of way will be the only way to buy the fanzine. I have to charge a round figure for America, so should I charge 3 or 4 dollars? I am unsure, 4 dollars buys more in America that an equivalent amount buys in the UK so Americans would be more likely to think it was bad value for money if it was 4 dollars, but then I have the extra postage. Anyway, I AM LOOKING for someone to write a thorough piece about Level 42 on the internet containing a history, current status, and instruction on what to do? Anyone? Yours..................LOZ ------------------------------ Subject: 12" JazzFunk Classics - Various From: Nick Brazier Date: Tue, 16 Jun 1998 14:02:12 -0400 Hiya again, I just bought a double cd "12' JazzFunk Classics - Various" With Level 42 on it (Love meeting Love) and they really do stand out on it, theres 23 tracks on it, and again it makes you realise how truely great L42 are! I only thought I'd mention this cd as it only came out this year, and I'd never sen it before, there are loads of Polydor compilations with them on (ie the best of 1981/1982 etc), but thats usually got tracks that didn't do that well anyway, like on that one I think it was Are You Hearing - which didn't do that well really, not really one of the greatest sellers of those years, but what the hell, if someone gets into them through that I'm all for it!!! Enough rambling drums stop, very bad, very bad!! I was playing in a tennis tournament in Belfeld (Netherlands) and I came into the canteen, reason being to tell the people who organised the tournament that I had won. When I came in I heard the beautiful piano play at the end of "Leaving me now" and felt warm all of a sudden. I exclaimed: "Ah, level42!" but horror came over me when I heard that is was actually the cover "I'm at peace" or something like it. What I would like to know is whether the band who "created" this song paid any tribute to level 42 or not, and also if level42 agreed for this song to be released. It sure is EXACTLY the same part and it sadly makes the song "I'm at peace" a great song! I must say I was very incensed when I first heard the song, especially since everyone rated it highly whereas I only thought of level42 and the credit they never got...By the way Leaving me now is one of the best songs l42 ever created...I get goosebumps every time I listen to the World Machine version. Lots of greetings from me and my brother who will be writing in soon again. They > usually have one video track and a few audio tracks (playable on normal > CD players. > > Is there a way of watching the CD vids on a PC? I have several L42 CDV's > and have never seen them! In the US, during the mid 80's something called Enhanced CD's came out that were full length audio CD's with a video track. I have a Fleetwood Mac - Behind the Mask CD that I think is an Enhanced CD. Not sure if that's the same as a CDV's. I have a program called Music Advisor that well tell you if your CD-ROM supports playing the Enhanced CD's. My Toshiba 8x does not.The last full CD's with videos I've seen come out were about 3-4 years ago (Sarah Mclachlin, Alice in Chains), and they were just labeled as a regular CD 'Plus a CD-ROM track' and are playable on pretty much any PC or MAC w/ a CD-ROM. I did get a Duran Duran maxi-single for Electric Barbella (4-5 songs) a few months ago that has a video on it. Thanks for your reply too, DonZipf.
