'Blimey' thought the bemused young 42ophile, 'what iz going on ere'. Well I immediatly told my girlfriend I was going to ask what the tape was they were playing, she wasn't impressed, 'sit back down you nutter, can't we go anywhere without you mentioning level 42' came the reply from the angry girlfriend. JOE ------------------------------ Subject: Lyrics From: Ronald Kuipers Date: Mon, 15 Jun 1998 12:13:19 -0400 Hi you all Every one of us or at least some of us seems to want to have the lyrics from the 1st album (Level 42) There must be someone 1 of us 600 who have them all. Please post them here. (I want them as well). So we all can stop singin' our own interpretation. And sing it like it's ment to be. Probebly as soon as we have them we start asking lyrics from The early tapes. But hey we won't be bored at least not for awhile. Don't worry about tomorrow, just live forever now (These are the lyrics to the remix of Forever now) Ronald ------------------------------ Subject: Solid Gold, baby! From: jcvaeth @ juno.com (john c vaeth) Date: Mon, 15 Jun 1998 13:28:14 EDT Paul asked about Level 42's appearance on Solid Gold, and the sad thing is, yes indeed they appeared in lip-synching glory on the thing. They performed "Something About You" and looked rather bemused (I thought they probably felt silly lip-synching, don't you?). They performed right up to the fade-out, which of course makes it all look worse. If the band has any regrets, this must be one of them! Have since lost my tape of this, but I remember being so impressed at how COOL the guys looked. Mark's technique made a lasting impression. PLEASE: Don't tell any of your friends that Our Band was on Solid Gold....SHHH!!! Also, my sister remembers seeing them on a soap opera once (S.A.Y. I'm sure), has anyone seen this? I think it was One Life to Live or All My Children. Catch the Fun, Touch the Sky John P.S. hey Greg, what I want to know is, what are the VERSES to Almost There??!?! ------------------------------ Subject: Midi/Mod, Marking From: Daniel James Date: Mon, 15 Jun 1998 11:10:35 -0700 (PDT) > "MIDI" stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface (developed > in the early 90's), and is a "way" for musical instrument to "talk" > to each other via or to a computer. I remember, I tried to > write "Children Say" once in MOD format, and it came out bad!! :) I believe MOD files came after MIDI, and they're still alive and kicking. It's amazing what can be accomplished with only four tracks. Most of the MOD files I've heard are somewhat cheesy--the samples used sound like an old Casio keyboard, but I've also heard some incredible MOD files (both Musically and Technically). There's also some of the newer formats that allow at least 16 tracks of audio... > http://www.midiweb.com/ Interesting site--I was hoping to find more information on available (Commercial or otherwise) tools. I'm having a heck of a time finding software for the Macintosh (with the exception of the $600 tools at the local music store). > name: eric spiering > residience: portland OR, USA Welcome to the digest. There are several of us here in Seattle that get together periodically, so if you're interested in a short drive (or train ride) north next time, you're welcome to join up. There's also another fellow a few hours south of you in Eugene (heya Shuf)... > He also said the LevelFest was a real 'Boost' and then he said something > really weird, he said it was: Excellent! Glad he had fun. I hope you'll pass along all of our gratitude that he showed up, and let him know we'll be heading out there again next spring. Also, could you do us a BIG favor Loz??? Several of us have mentioned flying over this fall, and we'd like to coordinate this with his upcoming tour if possible. If you could, it would be appreciated if you could find out any information in advance. Obviously tour dates are unlikely to be set, but if you could find out if he's going to be in England in October, that'd be great. Dates would be handy as we'll be coming from the states and needing to solidify our arrangements a few months in advance... ------------------------------ Subject: SNL and Level 42 From: getjakeit @ webtv.net (Jake Lennington) Date: Mon, 15 Jun 1998 16:26:06 -0500 Hi, I was wondering if anyone taped thier appearence on Saturday Night Live back in the late 80's. Great to hear your story Lisa- 'Hot Water' is a killer song to play. I`ve played and sang it in probably 6 bands over the years. As well as many other Level 42 songs. Nice to know there`s some more 'chick players' out there. Carl Mueller, my ever-inundated by me :-), website designer is in the process of adding heaps of new stuff to my site so check it out Lisa and anyone else if you like. http://www.inland.net/~cmueller/rebecca/index.htm Loved all the pics from the IOW fest. It`s incredible to be sitting here in Australia and get to feel like I was there seeing all the pics posted on here lately. Hi Jeff Mahoney- it`s certainly 'an impeccable groove' hey mate :-) Hi Spaldo- got your 'hello' message on here too- thanks :-) Rebecca Johnson (Sydney- Australia) ------------------------------ Subject: ' I need you to know...' From: Bilal42 @ aol.com Date: Tue, 16 Jun 1998 02:09:52 EDT Wow! I have just fallen for 'To be with you again' all over again. I always knew it was a good song, but this last week I have just adored it. This is more than just a track on an album, its melodipoetic science (I had to make that word up because no one has invented it yet). It is breathtakingly beautiful, it is the Sandra Bullock of music. The changes, the composition, the vocals, it is amazing, it could only be written and played by true geniuses. I'm going to strap it to my head and wear it all week. Bilal ------------------------------ Subject: Nottingham! Rizvan is a young guy, my friend's younger brother, who missed out on L42 while they were around, but he first heard of them in Pakistan! L42 are now his favourite group ever (with P/floyd)! He's like my own brother, hopefully you guys can meet him at the next fest. His housemates dont like Level42, so one day he played them Mr Pink and told them it was someone else... they loved it!!! You can mail me at work however, if you have an urgent request. Otherwise its still lozlevel42 @ lineone.net, in fact, I'll probably still sned most of my posts from home. News on my zine (soon to be officially called a magazine) I have finished my interview with Boon, finished my interview with Andy Sojka, finished the Early tapes discography (albeit waiting on a few photos). Finished cover artwork, finished introduction. All I have to do now is my piece on non-master rare tracks and sort out my interview with Mark. I am also doing a bit of work on Boon solo gigs, of which there were 2, but not for Tin Man, however, there was three TV appearances for Tin Man which I will track down. Marks new album is going to be called 'One Man' and he is adamant that it will be out in September. If anyone has any details on rare Early Tapes material send them in NOW PLEASE. I am also looking for detail on any 7" promos from Early Tapes era (LML WOL) and especially Polydor Early Tapes singles acetates (I have the strawberry studios acetate of Wings Of Love) remember I dont want these items off you, I just want details of their existence. As I mention earlier (or perhaps yesterday), I need help on finding out what 'A Nights Romance' is. Anyway, I'm going to get back to work now. Yours.............................LOZ PS. This is the fourth time I've tried to send this message, mainly due to me putting the word 'Subscribe' in the subject box accidently.
