Bilal42 ------------------------------ Subject: We sleep on our hearts now From: Steven Hoebens Organization: TUE Date: Sat, 13 Jun 1998 17:23:48 +0200 " 'Cause my life takes on new meaning, when I close my eyes and you reveal yourself to me " Hi, we're Steven and Frans Hoebens from the Netherlands. We were very happy to learn that this digest existed. We ourselves have been fans for many years. We first encountered level42 when Frans had heard "Take care of yourself" on the radio and loved the guitar in it. He then asked for a tape for his birthday and his sister got him "Level Best". Since then the addiction began and the tape has not been played for many years, treasured because of its sentimental value. Of course, we do have the CD copy of it which is played a lot still. We haven't been able to go to any of their concerts because we were still rather young. Unnecessary to say that we now regret this very much. We have all the regular CD's as well as some of the newer singles. Every single one has been a true pleasure to listen to. Steven has no favourite song, Frans' is "I sleep on my heart". We adored the guitar play in the Remixes' version of "Two hearts collide". Furthermore, we loved "The chinese way". We were very upset to hear about the splitup. We're glad that in this way we are able to share our love for the music of this wonderful band, and are hoping people would feel like sharing their thoughts with us about songs, lyrics and the band in general, either through this digest, or private at s.l.hoebens @ stud.tue.nl (Steven) and fjhoebens @ freemail.nl (Frans). Thanks! ------------------------------ Subject: Sheila E. From: DonZipf @ aol.com Date: Sat, 13 Jun 1998 11:52:41 EDT > Has anyone seen Sheila Escovedo (aka Sheila E) on Magic Johnson's new > talk show? Apparently, she's the leader of his house band. She is without > a doubt one of the most talented drummers/percussionists I've ever seen > or heard! If you've never seen her work the drums, check her out!! She's the only good thing about the show! I saw Sheila perform live with Prince (as he was still called then) on the Lovesexy tour - wicked!!! If you're a real Sheila E. fan, get a copy of the Drum Workshop 20th anniversary video at your local drum shop (you can buy it, or get it free when you purchase a DW kick pedal). She is interviewed, and gives extensive demonstrations of her trapkit prowess. It's a shame Magic's show sucks, and won't last long. Z. ------------------------------ Subject: Wazzup Anthony! From: Dave Mock Date: Sat, 13 Jun 1998 17:52:38 -0700 (PDT) Hey, Micro-Kids, WELCOME TO THE FAMILY, Anthony! It's Dave Mock, one of the New York Levelheads. I've been on the Digest since late 1996, and have much admiration for Lolita Jackson and Winston Walker, who know L42 and music in general as well as anyone. Awright, fellow NYC Hedz? Sounds like a great excuse to have the latest edition of the NY Levelfest. Target date so far is sometime in August, since my CBS News schedule is all filled up for the next month. You know, fly-fishing with Dan Rather, dancing to "The Sunbed Song" with Rooney and Wallace in the newsroom... Since Lolita and Winman have gone above and beyond in organising fests recently, I'd like to help shoulder the burden. I enjoyed the visit to the All Star Cafe, followed by a visit to the Virgin record store. Unfortunately, I did not get to head to Winman's house for the grand finale -- the Duke had to run back to Lawn Guyland for a personal emergency (a k a romantic problems). At least this time I'm unattached Anyhow...date suggestions, itinerary, etc. would be appreciated. Please E-mail me at dfmock @ rocketmail.com. BTW: I'm enjoying the back and forth on the lyrics to "Why Are You Leaving?" But nothing can beat the debate a few months ago about the rap section of the "Hot Water" remix. "Arm the faucets, not the mask, Taking all this is a gasp." TCOY, Dave Mock Running In the Family Technologies Corp. ;) _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? I've worked out something which sounds OK but I don't think it's what Mike is playing. From what I can hear it's a 4 bar pattern that's repeated all through those sections of the song. I tried searching for Turniton.mid using the MIDI Extreme's search engine and it did turn up 2 files, however, these were both of the Genesis song!! They were pretty good though! If anybody can help me out on this I would appreciate it. Still, his opinion on rare tracks seems to concurr with Boons so that is good, although it doesn't help me track them down. Anyway, I'll have to be going. Yours..............................LOZ >> LOZ, dont worry, I'm sure you are very clever. However, with such an important interview, maybe its wise to get someone to team up with you to broaden it up a little and make it better for you too. There are plenty of able people on the digest, consider the cooperation of our friends abroad too, they seem quite quick witted and pretty clued up! re: Mark's metaphors: Lolita went to JDF's and Mark 'metaphor' a drink! (ha ha!) what I would say is that Mark seems to be very well read (redd!) and certainly very articulate. He seems to be far more literate than the average University student anyway Bilal ------------------------------ Subject: anyone for tea?
