What is the 'horny love games', is it a different remix? Also, anyone bring and rare remixes to the ILF that people know about. I am always interested in this kind of material. If anyone has the CD, 'Its A Live-In World' which features the Boon Gould track 'Head Full Of Shadows' then please mail me ASAP. Does anyone know if Jay Dee is still manufacturing basses? And regardless of whether they are or not, is there anyway they can be reached for questions regarding their products? Many thanks. I have a chance to purchase one but I must act quickly and it looks the bass has been modified by the previous owner in some way. Any other advice on these basses would be much appreciated. If you don't want to bog down the digest with more bass stuff, please Email me privately at dbazylin @ iastate.edu Dennis ------------------------------ Subject: Jungle Funk/Sojka From: DonZipf @ aol.com Date: Sun, 7 Jun 1998 12:01:42 EDT > A group called Jungle Funk opened for him, and that group is comprised > of Doug Winbush on bass (he played it like a guitar - it was cool!), > Will Calhoun (?) and Vinx on percussion. Doug Wimbish replaced Muzz Skillings as bassist for Living Colour, so it's no surprise that he and Calhoun (LC's drummer) have formed a new group. I saw Vinx open for Sting (who discovered him) a few years back and was blown away. He stood solo on the stage singing, playing hand-drums, and entertaining the audience with race jokes (black man in the south stuff, but he was funny). I would love to see this band! * * * * * * * * * * * * * > [Sojka] is quite adamant that the name Level 42 was HIS idea solely, > totally and uniquivacoly(almost definitly spelt incorrectly). If I remember right, the basic gist was that it was kind of OK to refer to the SGs by their body parts because they started it - that's mostly the premise their who persona is/was based on. Having said that, it's still not really the kind of language I'm comfortable with being used on the Digest - I'm certainly no 'Mr PC' but it can't be pleasant for the female subscribers to read. I think the SGs are actually pretty good, if you like that sort of thing - and their various performances on TFI Friday were excellent, showing they could perform adequately live, and individually. Loz - I hope you have/had a successful interview with Andy on Monday and look forward to seeing the results. Looks like you're putting a lot of work in for us as usual. So many people mailed me I was quite overwhelmed - about 55 mails (wow!). I will certainly be looking into the Pandora software - thanks for the tip Eric. This digest is the coolest by far. Later Graham "music is the key to set me free" [FYI, I found that info in one measly search by going to AltaVista and entering "+music +decomposition"... I'm sure there's more info to be found on the general subject if you feel like digging for it. -Eric] ------------------------------ Subject: introduction From: "Schaap Maaike" <8097003 @ stud.hsij.nl> Organization: Hogeschool IJselland Date: Mon, 8 Jun 1998 10:24:59 +100 Hello Folks, I'm a new member of this Level42 digest list. I am 20 years old and I come from holland. (So sorry for the mistakes in this mail) I'm a fan of Level42 since the late 80's. That was the time my father introduced me to the music of the band. I started to play bass in february, and before that, I played alto sax. I hope to have a good time an read some good e-mails. Further proof (if it were needed) of the genius of Art Pepper, who started out on clarinet and became the most heartbreakingly soulful alto sax player you could wish to hear. Anybody unfamiliar with the incredible story of his life might want to check out his remarkable autobiography, Straight Life. This post has nothing whatsoever to do with Level 42. But, you know, life is eclectic. AG
