Charl Mocke ------------------------------ Subject: Short Hair Theory From: Lolitaj @ aol.com Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 08:40:51 EDT Someone commented that it was good to see Mark with short hair again, because he always makes his best music with short hair. The person was probably kidding, but I have a theory on that. If you notice, many times when he had long hair he was not looking the best in general (the Pier interview, the pre- Guaranteed/post-SATS period) - he let himself go, so to speak. The original band had split up, his marriage was kaput, etc. IMO his music wasn't the same, either. I'm not saying it was terrible, but the direction changed. Whenever he had short hair, he seemed to be feeling pretty good about himself and the music reflected it. The theory may be 'bollocks' (as you Brits like to say), but I think that he looks better than he has in a while, other than the fact that he has some wrinkles. Because of that, I get a good feeling about this new CD. The impact that this will have is as yet unclear, as certain job losses may arise and schedules/releases are thrown into a state of uncertainty. According to Paul Crockford today (June 3rd), he is unclear what this means re: the re-issues. He is still hopeful that they will be released in due course, but until things "calm down" a bit and he is able to discuss the situation with the record company, nothing is definite. This will be updated as soon as possible! --Morgan http://www.level42.com ------------------------------ Subject: The Jamiroquai thing... From: Nick Brazier Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 12:37:22 -0400 Hiya Level heads I mentioned that Stuart Zender was talking about Mark in Bassist, when Stuart was on the front, it was from May 98 - He's got a mad look on his face and I think from memory that he's got his thumb up And on these re-releases soon to be appearing..... Are the b-sides going to be the 12" versions as they are all so much better (ie longer!!!) Is there going to be a best of video when the new greatest hits is released?? At last we might all be able to get the vids from Guaranteed and Forever Now! Are there any other Maxwell fans in this digest (the man can really funk!!) As he is supposed to be releasing a new album on 28th June.... TTFN ....... Jonathan ps - wish me luck, I'm in the operating theatre on Tuesday!! Only a little operation though!! ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Alphaville From: Lazlo Nibble Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 11:13:39 -0600 > A few people have mentioned Alphaville in the past. Are these very good? Forever Young is good, as are most of their albums IMO. Singles Collection is a bad place to start, though -- not much material on there, really. -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo @ swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo) ::: Internet Music Wantlists: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo/Wantlists ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V98 #146 From: gbsc @ vossnet.co.uk (great britain ice hockey supporters club) Date: 3 Jun 1998 18:31:36 -0000 Hi everyone!!! I'm sure everyone had a great time and some at the ILF. I wish I could of made it but I had an important trip to make already (boy I was torn in half that Saturday!!!) I would have loved to have hung out with everyone at Jo's in my Daflo T'shirt and met the Boss man himself (my hero) Next years ILF MUST BE IN I.O.W. Pick anywhere to travel around the island and you will stumble across a place where Mark, Phil or Boon used to live/go to School (Outside the playground where I used to fight) or the holiday camp where they played before Level 42. I'm sure some of these places could be found if researched. What about trying to get Phil, Boon or Mike to show up next time??? As I run a fan club already I'm sure through my connections I could negotiate some good prices for accomodation/transportation. As i've only recently found you can you update me on Marks album title and projected realease date. Also what's Mr Lindup been up to since the split?? Thumbs up!! Just found the sites as i'm online now and read the first couple of digests. I'm really gutted at Missing the ILF (did you go and if yes was it good???) and for missing VH1's Level 42 hour (saw the digest a day too late!!) I noticed on todays digest that you said you're willing to do copies of the VH1 programme. I would kill (yes serve time!!) for a copy of it especially for any guaranteed/forever now videos. I'm willing to pay and/or provide a tape if needed. Thumbs up!!! Allan Petrie ------------------------------ Subject: Bass Player Jokes From: "Adrian Bond" Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 21:03:01 +0100 Hi Y'all As a bass player myself I thought you might find these funny ... Q. How do you make a bass player turn down the volume? A. Put some sheet music in front of him. Q How many bass players does it take to change a lightbulb? A1. None. They let the keyboard player do it with his left hand. A2. Don't bother. Just leave it out--no one will notice. A3. One, but the guitarist has to show him first. A4. Three: one to change it, and the other two to stop the lead guitarist from jumping into the spotlight when it comes back on. Q. What does it mean when a bass guitar player is drooling out both sides of his mouth? A. The stage is level. Cheers Ade ps What happens if you play blues music backwards?
