There's some funky stuff goin on there. No, I didn't buy it - I don't have a turntable. Anybody have an exact release date for the CD? I've been dying for it! She left the group two years ago because she was contractually bound to finish this project. Maybe now that its done, and Siedah Garrett has left the group (didn't like touring), she'll tour for her solo effort and then rejoin. I have nothing against Shelter, and I have seen the group live with both singers, its just that I absolutely adore N'Dea's voice. My new band is doing covers of both Brother Sister and Ride in the Sky, and I enjoy singing those two songs more than any other, so needless to say, I'm a true fan of hers. Anyway, enough babbling. Anyone who knows the release date, please let us know. Lolita ------------------------------ Subject: re: Carl's post about tour sponsorship From: "Eric J. Hansen" Organization: Worldmachine Technologies Corporation Date: Tue, 2 Jun 1998 08:39:28 -0400 (EDT) On any other day, and with another band, I'd raise serious issue as to why *fans* need to scrape together cash to get a wealthy musician to tour a country that has an otherwise wide and diverse consumer market. I can understand fans helping (if not leading) promotion efforts, but literally underwriting the whole tour? And then of course the question of why the record companies, perhaps the epitomy of capitalism, aren't doing this themselves... I mean, didn't *they* sign on a record deal? You'd think that this implies a committment to making a success! I guess the fact of the matter is that the tours are not major money makers - record sales are. Maybe we could lobby for Mark to do a music video... with scantily-clad women... or co-starring one of: Fresh Prince, Pamela Lee [intentional hint dropped], or maybe Garth Brooks? This would surely get VH1/MTV play, thus restoring the Isle of Wight as a music mecca. Anyways, I just got up, so I'm both punchy and grouchy... no feathers ruffled, I hope. On a lighter note, the good news is that Ginger Spice left the band... 8^} Eric -- Eric J. (McConnell AFB)" Date: Tue, 2 Jun 1998 07:29:22 -0500 Hey guys! Thanks to Jenn and others for posting their beautiful mugs on the web from the ILF ... I wore my ILF t-shirt that Saturday and just had a good feeling you guys would get to meet Mark ... I'm so glad he showed up. Sure, you would have had a blast regardless, but there probably has been tens of thousands of dollars spent just by the ILF attendees on Level 42 related stuff over the years - so you deserved to meet him, I think. I bet the "level" of loyalty on your part blew him away. He looks a bit dazed in the photos, in fact! (But not as dazed as some of you stunned fans!). This American concert thing ... if we can secure (from Eagle Rock) how much cash from us it would take to get him here for even a handful of shows, I'll kick in $100. Many of us in America never got to see Level 42 play and would give a lot to see Mark in action. NON-LEVEL - Simply Red's new album "Blue" is really smooth ... Mick Hucknall is another artist whose success in the UK/Europe has far outstripped his success in the U.S. See ya, Bo ------------------------------ Subject: Millan and Kenzie From: "Will Greer" Date: Tue, 2 Jun 1998 07:56:13 -0600 Warning - Non-Level 42 Content********************************* This is a "Cool Band Alert" to all of the Denver area digesters. I saw a group called "Millan and Kenzie" on Saturday night at Josephina's in Larimer Square. We had a great table right up in front, and what a pleasant surprise these guys were. Their originals reminded me of Dave Matthews stuff - quite a bit of acoustic guitar thrown in with some grooving rhythm section work. They also chose some very tasteful covers - a very energetic version of "Rocket Man" and some others I can't remember. The bass player had a Music Man 4 string and a fretless 5 string that may have been a Fodera (couldn't quite tell), and was running through an SWR rig. Not a big thumb player, but still had a very good feel for when to play and when not to. Check them out if you can. =================================== Will Greer Empower Solutions, LLC Denver, Colorado (303) 888-7154 mailto:Will_Greer @ EmpowerSolutions.com http://www.EmpowerSolutions.com =================================== ------------------------------ Subject: Levelfest, HOJO and the Mark King 1998 Tour of North America From: David Leslie Date: Tue, 2 Jun 1998 10:13:49 -0400 Man the photos from the Levelfest has got me kicking myself more and more for not making an effort to go. But I'm really pumped that you all had a great time and that our man Mark made the effort to come and hang with cha. I've got a question for Morgan (you now have the Bass equivalent to the Sword Excalibur in your hands) Between the Jaydee and the Alembic, which "sounds" better to you? A few digests ago, someone asked about Howard Jones' Live Acoustic America. Well to say it's great is an understatement. A must have for any Howard fan As for the $100 to get Mark over here for a tour. Put me down for 2 please!!! GEE, THE ORIGINAL "LEVEL 42" CD SOUNDQUALITY SUCKS !!!!!!! Way too high treble, no bass etc. (and this was a straight digital CD extraction, no analogue stuff involved) So I kept the warm goodsounding crackled parts ;-) Perhaps DrDre was right comparing vinyl to CD a while ago. I hope the Polydor rereleases will remaster the CD to what it sounds more or less on vinyl ! (vinyl was mastered in 87, explains probably the difference between the 81 master) so to the Dutch guys: almost all is on my harddisk now !!! Dre, we have to exchange asap the rest! People who have the Lessons in Love disconet remix, the Wings of Love '81 remix, the Micro Kid promo-only (not A&M) remix, Follow Me live 4:00 remix/overdub, or the DMC megamix (not from Children Say CD) please contact me. And no crappy tapes, only metal tapes, Minidisc, JAZ, ZIP, CDR (or even split floppies) are accepted !! Perhaps Loz???????? I am really wondering what Polydor will put as extras on the rereleases... Hopefully not again the Shep Pettibone remixes. greetz Dirkies ------------------------------ Subject: ILF pictures From: "Arjan Meijer" Organization: Iquip B.V. I'm amazed at the number of people from the States that came to Europe! Well, the best thing about the pictures, was seeing Mark again. I'm glad that his hair is short. It's scientifically proven that he makes better music with short hair! :-)) OK, flame-protector on! I was wondering which of their CD's are the best. I found a couple of them in a local store - Forever Young ('84) (almost typed Forever Now), and The Singles Collection ('86). Are these very good? I found this page that has some of their music, including some B-sides, as MP3's, Wav's, Midis, and MODs... http://alphaville.netcns.com/index2.html Also I noticed the store had some Incognito CD's, also mentioned on the list. Someone care to describe/compare their music? Thanks! Brian. ------------------------------ Subject: I'm pissed From: "eyesee communications" Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 08:14:34 +0200 Coming back from the States where I spend a lovely holiday, I read that some of you met the Master of Bass ! And thinking that I was seriously considering to join the ILF. HELP, I will regret this FOREVER. Seriously, I'm very happy for you all, and indeed JoeDaflo's is a cool place. I visited it already two times (once in 93 and once last year), but the Landlord was never around. So please, re-organise this next year and I'll definitely be around. I think the IOW & London are the places to do this yearly LevelHead Congress. Quite central (so cheap airway tickets), related to the band and last but not least MK in the neighbourhood (as well as close to Antwerp-Belgium !). I did bought the FN-Res version in the States, which completes my CD collection. Looking forward the the Barking Moon Cd and its tour (which I will not miss for a million). A couple of months ago, there were some reruns of older concert on the German television. I picked up only half of one of the two concerts. Does anyone can provide me with a copy of the two concerts, or even better: why not burn them down on CD (id possible) so that we can enjoy thme over and over. Well, I can copy the tape for anyone who wants it .. or more specifically the two Forever Now videos since most of you guys probably have the other stuff. The problem is that I don't have the facility to tape from UK-PAL to US-NTSC video. If anyone *CAN* do this, can they let me know and I'll arrange to get some PAUL versions to whoever and we can pass this on... Thanks y'all, PH.
