Sometimes, Byrdman, the very best things are appreciated by only a few. Some folks don't like Guaranteed because it's so different from their other efforts. But I say "Vive la difference!" It's one of my three favorite Level 42 albums [along with World Machine & Forever Now (Resurgence)]. Z. ------------------------------ Subject: Word Machine Fanzine From: "LOZ Green" Date: Sun, 31 May 1998 15:48:58 +0100 Hello everyone, I am now starting to compile the first copy of my fanzine 'WordMachine' I have done the preliminary artwork and am starting to complile articles etc. I have already secured an interview with Boon (thats the easy part) Boon also says Mike might be able to provide me with pictures of interesting moments in the life of the band. I am hopefully getting an interview with Andy Sojka, possibly Paul Crockford, I think I will be able to get an interview with Mark. I will save some things for further issues obviouslly but I will get Boon to write for all issues. I have a very good 'nose' at resurgence and should be able to get copies of original artwork from Boons, Mike and the Forever Now albums as well as a full detailed list of all the tracks that were available and masters proomo material etc etc etc. Hopefully you are all getting quite excited by now. Oh, I have photos of Strategy and just about every Elite item as I mentioned the other day. The discography in issue 1 is everything related to Early Tapes so what I am now (at last) ready for is any details of Early Tapes albums and please dont forget cassetts which are often looked over, so if everyone can let me know what they have by way of foreign copies I would be delighted, Particualrly japenese album, CD, cassette and reissues acetates of the albums promos and the like, please help if you can. I am looking for someone also to prepare an article on the ILF especially with pics of digest memebrs meeting Mark. So please mail me if you can help. I am also doing a full 'Boon' discography, so anyone who can give me details of that CD that had Head Full Of Shadows on I would most appreciate it. Also the promo UK album entitled 'Anti Heroin Project' with Head Full Of Shadows on and anyone who got that CD free with a magazine with a (some) Boon tracks on PLEASE PLEASE mail me soon. I am also printing the lyrics to Head Full Of Shadows for the first time evry anywhere. ANYONE who can help will be appreciated very very much and any sizeable contribution obviously recieve a free copy, I am looking a two months till release. Onto other matters. I have a spare T-Shirt, it is from the Guaranteed tour, the very first concert at crystal palace bowl, It is like the regular Guaranteed T-Shirt but slightly diffwerent because if says the concert name and data on it. It has never been worn and is in excellent condition. I am only looking to swap it however, for something similar. I had one kind offer of help with the printing of the fanzine, but still only a home printer (albeit faster than mine) anyone else who could help perhaps with large scale fast printing, I can cover all the costs so let me know. In my excitement to see the selection of Level 42 on the shelf at Tower Records, it seems as if I went a little shopping crazy. I bought The Remixes for my brother, but he's already got this cd. Therefore, if anyone is interested in the cd, please email me. I paid 10 pounds (approximately $16 USD) for it last week in London, and I haven't opened it. As the last one of us to leave London, I did shut the door and turned out the lights behind me on the way out. Kristin, hope you're having fun touring Germany at the moment! Well I've been reading a few of the comments made here, and over on the ilf mailing list, but I'm maybe 20% through them, so I may say some things that have already been said. Thanks to *EVERYONE* who showed up. This trip was simply the most amazing week of my life. Everything went very smoothly (at least for me, I know a couple of New Yorker's that ran into a few glitches). In some ways, this trip reminded me of last year's fest in Vegas--even though most of us met face to face for the first time, we all got on as though we'd been friends for years. I enjoyed meeting and spending time with each and every one of you and I look forward to seeing all of you (as well as many of you that didn't make it this time) next year. Speaking of next year, many suggestions flew around this last week. I heard Chicago mentioned, which would be great--I've got friends out there, and I've always wanted to see the city. Unfortunately, I don't think any of the members live out that way, so organizing might be difficult. New York has also been mentioned several times over the last year, and that would be great as well. We could all stay in Jersey to cut costs down. Tuesday night at The Swan, a few of us were also discussing having it in London again. England is really the only location that has any connection to the band, and as Tony has said that the Raytheon would be available in the future, it makes things perfect! The weekend trip to Portsmouth and Ryde worked out very well this year. There's also the possibility that we might get Mark to drop again--however, just as we weren't expecting him this time, we shouldn't necessarily expect this from him in the future. I think he was a bit overwhelmed by the number of people that showed up. Next year he might be inclined to either not show up at all, or be prepared to spend more time :) Anyway, I'm not going to direct thanks at any specific people because I don't want to leave anyone out. I think that each of us in our own way made this trip what it was--a most special get together. Finally, as many of you already know, I was looking into moving to London for 6-12 months for the experience of working overseas. Now after spending a week there, I am convinced that I must do this. There is so much to see outside of this continent, and some fascinating people to meet! ** Picture Alert ** For those of you that want to see pictures, I haven't uploaded the entire contents of my camera yet, but I've got a fair number of pictures up on my website. There's a subset of them at http://www.serv.net/~djames/london.html -- this page has about half of the pictures displayed in thumbnails--click on the small image to see the full-sized image. I haven't converted all of them yet to thumbnails, so to see the rest of them, go to http://www.serv.net/~djames/Images/London and click on each filename individually. I plan on putting descriptions on each of them in the future, so perhaps in the next 2 weeks I'll let you all know that my online scrapbook is complete. Theresa, there's a most happy picture of you and mark up there (or you can go directly to it at: http://www.serv.net/~djames/Images/London/marktheresa.jpg Oh yeah, one last thing. I think this may have been discussed in some of the other messages, but I'm not sure... Mark did say that his album would be coming out in September. This will no doubt be followed by a tour (and I'm sure I don't need to say that this tour won't bring him to the states). Winston, Lolita, Jennifer and I all discussed going back to the UK to see him on this tour, and I want to say that I will definitely go for this. I'm going to plan on spending a little over a week this time, but only a few days in London. I'd like to take the Eurostar to Paris and spend some time there... Anyone else interested??? Thanks again, everyone for making this last week so wonderful. I miss you all already!!! ------------------------------ Subject: ILF98 - Photos!!! From: "Jennifer Reddin" Date: Sun, 31 May 1998 23:16:14 -0500 Friends: After a *lot* of hard work, the time has come... I've scanned all my group photos from our International Levelfest 98 and have created a web site for your viewing pleasure. I am extremely pleased with all the photos. Winston, I'm so glad that you convinced me to get my first 5 rolls of film developed while we were still in London. I would never have forgiven myself if the Mark King/Joe Daflo's photos had been destroyed by airport x-rays!! Sorry, but I didn't get individual photos of everyone with Mark. Morgan, if I had not been filming you with your camera, I would've had photos of you too. Well, at least you have the video . Here's the link: http://rampages.onramp.net/~jreddin/ilf98 Please give me any of your comments on the ILF98 web site. I'm sad to be back home, but at least we have the memories!! Enjoy. Anyway you lucky people on the Levelfest met Mark and what fun you will have had. When I lived on the Isle of Wight Mark was a regular customer at my place of work and I hold very great memories of the man himself. Back in those days he had just moved back home with his lovely wife and family. He even went out of his way to meet a very special friend of mine who at the time had travelled from New Zealand for their concert on the Isle of Wight. It's hard to believe how down to earth he is when you have admired him for so long. In fact all the original boys were just as nice. I only wish I could have been with you all on your wonderful trip. Keep those special memories forever. Bye for now Lesley ------------------------------ Subject: Re Crockford From: Bill Leslie-Miller Date: Tue, 02 Jun 1998 09:21:12 +0000 Levelheads Does any person on the digest have a phone number for Paul Crockford ???
