I mean, Mark FREAKING King showed up to the ILF and I was home drinking Honey Brown! Man, oh, man did I miss out. But on the flipside, I got to meet some groovy Levelheads in the mountain states area, and that ain't bad (but it ain't Mark FREAKING King, either). Thank you all who could make it to Shakespeares and gab the group. Please send me your addresses so we can keep in some touch. Guarenteed: At the Mile High Levelfest it was mentioned that Guarenteed is greatly disliked by the group. This just can't be! Didn't anyone actually listen to the album? Some of Mark's best work was done here, and you hate it. Maybe we were mistaken. "We're only human after all..." Any takers? If you'll scan the archives, Benjamin, you'll find about a thousand iterations of that conversation. But, to save you the trouble, go pick up a Peavey Foundation bass (about $300 new), an excellent slapping machine for a great price. Z. ------------------------------ Subject: ILF @ WDW! From: DonZipf @ aol.com Date: Sat, 30 May 1998 17:43:00 EDT Hello, all: I've noticed that discussions of the next Level Fest are already springing up here & there. As I've mentioned this idea to a few of you, I'm sure you can see this coming, but here it is: Walt Disney World in the winter! Now before you automatically pooh-pooh this idea, think about it. It is the most traveled-to international destination on planet Earth, so cheap air-fare can be arranged from anywhere. During the winter months, rooms both on & off property are heavily discounted (I know a nice place 1.5 miles from the gate where a room for 4 with 2 dbl beds, a microwave & fridge is $28.50 per night in the off-season). And besides, there isn't a more fun place known to man (and I don't mean just rides - great bars, clubs, & restaurants abound). As you've no doubt heard me brag, I've been 21 times, so I know what I'm talking about. I will be going sometime this winter, and I would love to see you folks there for a Fest. If anyone doubts that it can be done affordably, I will help you with planning. What say you? Does anyone else like this idea? Z. ------------------------------ Subject: The Funky ILF Bunch From: Dave Mock Date: Sat, 30 May 1998 17:42:47 -0700 (PDT) Hey, Micro-Kids: Saw the pics of the gang from the International Geophysical LevelFest ("What a beautiful world this will be...") -- kudos to Winston. All who see them will notice that Mark hasn't looked this good since the "Lessons In Love" and "Children Say" vids. Looks tanned and rested -- could this be the start of a reunited 42 project? (Just kidding). I'd kvtech about the hairline except that Mark has been "balding" for as long as we all have seen him. ;) Anyhow...There was debate recently in this space over Boon Gould's prowess as an axeman. I think back to Boon's guitar solo in "My Hero" and wonder if it wouldn't have stood out more if it didn't have the synth behind it. It seems Gould wasn't a flashy Van Halen type of player--more atmospheric and moody (see "The Micro-Kid" and "To Be With You Again.") But the fit for L42 seemed slightly better than Alan Murphy's guttural style, much as I liked that too. Whaddya think? TCOY, Dave ------------------------------ Subject: Re: ILF + North American tour??? From: Carl Mueller Date: Sat, 30 May 1998 17:51:48 -0700 Hey everybody, Carl here. I've been living vicariously through all the ILF play-by-plays the last couple of days. I especially want to thank my friend Winston for giving Mark the wedding invitation. I can't wait to see the video ;-] I received the signed invitation you sent today, Winston. It's awesome, thanks! Something I wanted to mention the the Digest is the fact that last year fans of the band Marillion (from the Freaks Digest) raised about $50,000, and pretty much financed the North American tour that followed. I also know that Marillion happens to be with Velvel/Eagle Rock Entertainment.... The same record company releasing Mark King's album in september. It IS possible; the precedent has been set already. Now for a limited North American tour with shows in, let's say, New York, Chicago, Dallas and L.A..... How many U.S. members on the Digest? For, say, $100,- each????? Yeah, think about it Carl ps: I posted this yesterday but it fell in a black hole apparently ;-] ------------------------------ Subject: Jay Dee Bass Pix From: Brad Dietz Date: Sun, 31 May 1998 01:50:11 -0400 Friends, I was surfing the net, and I came across a Jay Dee "Mark King" signature bass at the Guitar Broker webpage. What a nice looking bass: http://www.guitarbroker.com/3779.htm I wish it was mine... Ever vigilant for Jay Dee pix... by the way, I enjoyed seeing the ILF pix. I STILL can't believe Thunderthumbs himself showed his physical presence! -Brad Dietz ------------------------------ Subject: Leicester From: Bilal42 @ aol.com Date: Sun, 31 May 1998 05:05:31 EDT Adam, did I tell you I used to live in Leicester?! In my student days, i lived in Highfields (I'm still alive!), above 'The Imperial' pub on Mere Rd. I also did a stint on the dreaded Narborough Rd. There was a couple also living above the pub, Sally and Nick, who had a friend who was crazy about Level42. Apparently he played Jay Dees, they talked about him often; is that person on this digest????
