The records are all under offer individually, or the whole collection can be sold to the highest bidder. In the interests of brevity I haven't listed all of my records in this email but a list is available on request. There are 55 records in my collection, including some rare limited editions. I'd be grateful for any offers to be in Pounds Sterling. I hope this is of interest to some on the list, and hope my posting doesn't inconvenience any fans. Please email me if you'd like to see the list of what I have for sale. Take Care, Farren. ----- farren @ yoyo.org http://www.yoyo.org/level42/ ------------------------------ Subject: Gary vs Phil / Candy Dulfer From: Adam Hankinson Date: Tue, 19 May 1998 12:55:40 +0100 Hello friends, In case you all thought I had ignored Tony's request for the "extra tracks" of FN Resurgance, I emailed him directly. (didn't want it to look like I didn't bother) But things got better, as I found a copy of it on CD and Tony will have it on Saturday. "whoo hoo" Chris Staunton - Thanks for the offer of helping with the MP3's. It is quite a lenghty process and all my time at the PC is personal (no business use) Guys and gals, If you want MP3's talk to Chris, myself or Greg Jamate. These are the two chaps that got me interested in all of this! Anyone else into the MP3 thing? ***************************************** The new drummer thread... >And as blasphemous as it may be, sometimes I listen to tracks from >Staring At The Sun or Guaranteed and wonder how much better they would >have sounded if it had been Phil...? :) Mmm....I must put my hands up and admit that this had crossed my mind !! The thing is, there was a young whippersnapper called Gavin Harrison. I met him at the RAH and he was a top bloke and a brilliant drum banger! :-) If I had to put these guys in preference...... I can't !! *********************************************** I also just wanted to say that thanks to some digesters talking about Candy Dulfer a while back. I went out and checked her out (I got Saxuality CD 1990) I love it, Thanks to whoever it was that mentioned her. Another big plus for being a part of this digest....Thanks Eric and all the contributors Adam http://surf.to/adz ------------------------------ Subject: Worldwide chat From: Lolitaj Date: Tue, 19 May 1998 08:41:49 EDT I am bringing my laptop to the Isle of Wight on Saturday. Since we have solidified our plans, I will let you all know that after Jo DaFlos we are going to the Raytheon Marine Social Club in Portsmouth, thanks to Tony Sharpe who is President, for a jam session and video watching marathon. We are arriving there around 11:30 or midnight London time, which is equal to 4PM Pacific and 5PM Mountain. I'm going to fire up the laptop and we can all chat live time - you'll get the scoop firsthand. I am only on AOL, but there is a way for us to chat through AOL without you having to be a member. Well, >if anybody has any info just let me know Unless you're talking about a second Hall & Oates release on Eagle which I'm not aware of, they released an album last fall, and toured at the same time (they came to South Bend, IN, a few minutes away, on my birthday, no less, but I couldn't see them 'cause I was in Vegas!). I think they're done with their support tour for that album. Great album, by the way, very mellow with good songwriting. >Does anyone know if Howard Jones' latest album, 'Angels and Lovers', or 'Live >Acoustical America' or 'In the Running' are any good? Haven't heard Angels & Lovers yet, Live Acoustical America is a must hear, In The Running is so-so. Henri, hate to correct you, but I was talking about the TOPPOP clip of Love Games. If you have the book "The definitive biography" you can read about how Mark got to know Ria (his first wife) during the shooting of a video clip for a Dutch TV show. Well if you add 1 and 1....... So you could say that TOPPOP had a big influence on Mark's private life ! You are right however that I like the TOPPOP clip better than the (TOTP) one that appeared on the Level Best video because it was more like a serious (whatever it meant in those days !) video clip rather than a lip-sync studio performance. If my memory is right it was completely shot outdoors, and Mark had a pink/purple coloured bass. That's all I remeber, because it's been 17 years ago since I last saw it ! I _DO_ remember how amazed I was seeing this clip, since I already had heared LG several times on radio (my first L42 experience) because I had expected it to be a "black" band. I was totaly amazed that four (OK Mike is a little tanned) white young British boys (who just dried up behind their ears, as we say in Holland)could make groovy funky music like that. Most of this kind of music in those days was by (American) "black" bands, so that probably was why I expected the guys to be "black". But of course I was even more impressed by Mark's thumb technique, I had never seen anyone use it before. Anyway, it _WOULD_ be great to have this video ! ! ! Maybe the LLLF visitors can jointly write e-mails to toppop ? Do they have a separate e-mail address/site ? Let's try it, who knows it might even work. I'm just half way through the latest digest and can't resist it any longer!! I absolutely agree with Lolita and Nigel's comments about FN. When I realised that PG was back on the scene, before I even heard the album, I knew it would be like old times. Heard FN and thought to myself "Well they've come full circle" - the album is most definately a 'Stonker'. Lo and Nigel, I can't wait to meet you guys. I could go through every track and give my honest opinion which would obviously be extremely favourable, but I know it doesn't need to be said. Lolita's comments totally sum up my views, enough said!!! It was never a matter of my not liking FS, but a matter of my not getting as hot and bothered over him as many do. Joey, I never questioned his voice, his abilities to sing, his style, his delivery, or what he brought to the songs he sang and performed. Never would I question the man's voice or the songs that he put on wax for generations to enjoy. I am, however, always on the search for what's in my musical heroes' hearts and the methods used in the songs he/she writes. WRITES!!! That's part of what makes them my heroes. My whole mindset was geared towards that. It must not have come acrossed that way. It's the songwriter in me that has me fixated with the creators of songs, not just their singers. I'm not a moron. I know some timeless sh @ twhen I hear it. And Frank SANG some timeless sh @ t. My opinions are based on the music. All of the achievments you mentioned are common knowledge. But, his acting merits and all those unrelated to music have no bearing. So they're void from any music debates. 86 them. Frank was no slacker in the vocal dept. But it takes more than a great voice to categorise one as my music hero. That being said, what do you say you and I, and everyone, for that matter, call a truce before any more verbal fists fly. Let's sift through the many differences and operate on our common ground, which is our love for Level 42. T. P.S. Everyone, sorry for subjecting you to the non-Level rantings of all parties on the subject of the late Frank Sinatra. ------------------------------ Subject: Lolita, Zak, 20 bit From: "Andre Huijts" Date: Tue, 19 May 1998 19:33:25 +0200 First, Lolita your posting regarding FN, G, ans SATS are like I could have written them.....I agree 100 %. Weren't you born november 1967 too ? Must be the stars ! Zak, thanks ! Makes posting worthwile. By the way. Zak, something completely different but did you know there was a small "musical" about your father running for a week or two here in Holland ? I saw it mentioned in a couple of months old paper I came across the other day... I could try to get some more info if you are at all interested.. Don, regarding the 20 bit thing: I have lent my Japanese FN to Dirk Vael but I do not recall any logo on the CD or the booklets. But does this really proove anything ?? Who says a record company is obliged to put such a logo on the CD ? I agree it is stupid not to do so but still, maybe this is one of the first 20-bit remasters. I have mailed BMG Japan regarding this matter, so maybe someone over there knows. Well let's suppose it is _not_ a remastered version, just a re-issue. First question to my mind is: Why use a different catalogue number ? Then there is the ultimate test. If it is a true 1 on 1 copy of the original Japanese version, than people who can do direct digital audio extration (me too soon !) on their PC should be able to see this ! Whe would need the BVCP-711 and the BVCP-7463 however and I only have the latter. Comparing to the UK release would not make sense, there are bound to be (small?) differences between the orignal UK and the original Japanese releases. Regarding this: I _STILL_ feel the BVCP-7463 sounds better than the RCA and the Resurgence versions. But this could be true for the BVCP-711 too. I happen to trust the Japanese sound engineers just a litle bit more regarding their mastering and manufacturing process. Than again I didn't pay really a lot of money for this CD, just about DFL 52,50 which is less than 30 bucks. Not expensive at all for a Japanese import. So no added price for the 20 bit remastering ? Also someone mentioned he had seen the 7463 for a lower price than the 711 in Japan. So the mystery is yet unsolved ! Gr. Andre ------------------------------ Subject: Boon From: JDoody @ checkpoint.co.uk Date: Wed, 20 May 1998 09:00:06 GMT To: Level42 @ worldmachine.com Am I the only one who thought Boon was a real waste of time as a guitar player? Fine, He is a great song/lyric writer, but I just thought he was a bit "girly" as a lead guitarist. He never impresssed me. I cringed whenever he stepped forward to do a guitar solo and all we got was a couple of "Twangs". Yeah, like that was impressive, man! I always got the feeling that his dream was to grow really long hair and smash the shit out of his guitar on a speaker or something, but never had the bottle! Was this how he wanted to play? Is this all he could play??? My two cents worth. Jon
