Dan, what exactly is a 'fisty dog'? Wayne, i read the exact same story about mark's scar. Said he was in a car accident with a gal. Wonder which is the 'real' story? I also have the book, but i know the band was not thrilled with the book, so who knows which is the real deal? I'm sure some diehard digest member must have an interview with that dog somewhere, right? Don, what does 'Your taste is in your mouth' mean? I heard a similar line in the movie 'To Live & Die In L.A.', and always wondered where the heck that saying came from. Regarding the whole 'which track to drop from the FN cd' debate, i would toss the whole album back, IF i could get a new album from the original lineup. Hey Adrian, Mike Payne dropped by yesterday for a visit, enroute to London for a wedding. We had the exact same conversation about 'My hero'. neither of us knew who the song was about. Bob C and Lolita dropped by as well. Mike suggested Hendrix, and I mentioned that Lennon seemed to be an obvious choice. I don't know about you EMIKATIE, but when I listen to Level 42, I ONLY listen with my ears. I tried listening with my feet, but it didn't work!! :-) Tcoy, Win ------------------------------ Subject: I think AOY should replace... Assuming "most" denotes the people doing the recognizing (a popularity contest, of sorts), it would have to be Eddie. Nobody inspired more rip-offs or "experts". If, on the other hand, "most" denotes the person being recognized (although there really could be no such thing, as we are all unique), I'd have to give the award to Jose' Angel Navarro, with Hedges coming in a distant second. I has spoken. -r ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V98 #127 From: Benjamin Temko Date: Thu, 14 May 1998 11:12:13 -0500 (EST) Random bits : I just think it's extremely impressive that so many people know where the scars on Mark's face came from. Are we a dedicated, obsessed fan base, or what? The "Drop This Song" thread : Talking In Your Sleep, in my book. This song seems too much a rehash, thematically, of "Lying Still", but without the kick-ass mood and flavour. To all you folks who are saying "Don't Bother Me" (but who also, secretly, in your hearts, love "Freedom Someday" because of the message) I say : PPPBBBBTTTT! How can you not love a song with a lyric like "The Body Electric and The Vision Thing is all it takes to make the people sing. Let's hope they don't get fooled again!"? Give me intelligent social commentary like this any day! ;) Musically speaking, though, if you liked "My Father's Shoes", you are disqualified from voting for "Don't Bother Me" as the tune to drop. And while I'm making grossly broad and slightly inaccurate statements, let me also say this: PACERS IN 6, BABY!!! (for those of you who could care less about the NBA (and up to last August this included me - but moving to this basketball haven which is Indiana has altered me in ways that frighten) you may safely ignore this statement - for those of you Knicks fans out there, I have only two words : Larry Legend. Actually here in Seattle, our local contemporary-jazz station gives them an occasional play. I think I've heard "Love in a Peaceful World," and of course "Something About You," etc. They also *love* Incognito. I've heard "A Shade of Blue" numerous times, and last Friday they played "After the Fall" and once I heard them play "Don't You Worry 'bout a Thing" > I used to live there and now am in Seattle but moving to Jacksonville, > Florida at the end of the month. Hey Mark... Didn't know there was another one of us in Seattle. Have you gotten in touch with Bill Wilson yet? He's heading up the Seattle branch of the Intl Levelfest. I unfortunately will not be able to join you, as I'll be occupied with the London festivities :) :) :) Anyway, sorry to hear you're leaving--those of us here in Seattle (there's 4 of us that are the core group) try and get together every few months... In my opinion (a phrase which can't be over stated!) AOY is by far the worst song on the RCA version. It's dull and repetative and well deserves to be cut from the resurgence version. This also goes for Tired of Waiting! I seem to remember that on the flyer I was sent before I ordered the Resurgence version it stated that this was 'the album Mark and Mike wanted to release' so I can only assume that they agree with me on that one!!! However, I think I would possibly sneak it on ahead of Time Will Heal. On a final note, any song containing the change that occurs after the line 'and what remains is why you're crying alone' in Romance must not be cut from any album!! There, I've said it!! P.S. Bill Miller, my e-mail to you keeps getting sent back. What's going on? Can't believe no one else said this! My god, you're right! TWH is almost as wimpy as OIAM! I hadn't even thought of it. Just pick any of the "Oh, whoa is me - I can't find the right woman - why does my life suck - I'm soooo sensitive" songs that Mike sings, and "All Over You" is a much better tune by a hundredfold. The best song that Mike does, IMHO (not that I'm ever humble), is "Lasso the Moon". Now that's a great song, from a great album (Guaranteed)! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * > How many different version of Forever Now are there? > > Forever Now > Model Friend > Tired of Waiting > All Over You > Love In a Peaceful World > Romance > Billy's Gone > One In A Million > The SUnbed Song > Talking In Your Sleep > Don't Bother Me > > Which version is mine? How does the version differ from others? I'm > hearing references to lots of tracks that i don't have, and I want em!!! OK, once more. The version listed above (the first of three) is the origianl RCA UK release. The RCA Japan release is identical, but with two songs tacked onto the end. They are "Past Lives" and "Learn to Say No" (another good one to cut in favor of AOY). After RCA took FN out of print, it was re-released by Resurgence (who also re-released Mike's Changes solo effort, a pretty good album) with a different track order, some new songs added (the two previously mentioned plus "The Bends", "Play Me", "Heart on the Line", & "Time Will Heal"), the song "All Over You" omitted, and the song "Billy's Gone" completely re-written. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * > I was badly mistaken about chopping Past Lives from FN. I love this track, > I've been humming it all day! Here, here! As long as we're owning up, I must admit that I was out of my head when I mentioned "Romance" as a 2nd choice for omission. It is a good track, and there are certainly much weaker on the album, as pointed out by many of you. You know, I don't really like this game of looking at songs negatively, searching for my least favorite - it's like choosing which of your friends to sacrifice as a hostage or something! Die, OIAM, die!!! 6 days to departure! - Z. ------------------------------ Subject: Oooh... The Rough Things Mark Has Done! If I > remember correctly, Mark took a girl out on a date, and somehow > wrecked his father's car. This is probably the wrong reason why Mark's face is scarred, by the looks of yesterday's digest... but it raises an interesting topic on, what I would call, "The Rough Things Mark Has Done". For example, I also read somewhere he smashed a Ferrari sometime on the Isle of Wight... is this the same incident as the above, or different? It's probably the same, since if I had a Ferrari, I would also take use it to take out my girl. Too bad if it gets written off. Hehehheh! :) I also wonder if Mark ever smashed a bass, like some pro's do when they get really pissed for some reason. :) Back to work... P.S.> Sean you got my e-mail?
