Paid my 20 bucks...zero product. To the person who has his number, could you let me know, I'd love to talk to him (or his mother). I am known for sometimes being a little slow (ask Marc Dupuis...I've traded with him many times), but this is ridiculous. I don't know the exactly name of the story in English, but Edgar Allan Poe has a fantastic story about a House of Usher. I can't see any other possible mention to it (even if it's part of any L42 lyrics... and it still comes from EAP). Anyway, I don't think that's relevant to most of the levelheads around here, but I still care to everything (since those Rick Astley/Lighthouse Family troubles, I've been in silence... not anymore now). That is my favorite song on the CD. It reminds me of an old school R&B song - especially the chorus. The song is funky in a ballad sort of way. David - there are a number of us in the NYC area who get together from time to time. Winston and I seem to be the core group, but there are about 5 others. We are long overdue for a NY fest - we are actually having a mini-fest to go see Marcus Miller on June 4th at Irving Plaza. You are more than welcome to join us (its open seating/standing, so you can get tix and we can be together). We will probably have a more formal fest at the end of June. I was only truly able to appreciate how talented Mark is when I began teaching myself to play the bass. I thought 'singing and playing can't be that bad'. Well, on a bass, it is. A guitar player can do it a lot more easily, because they are probably playing at least one note that has something to do with what they are singing. On the bass, they tend to have nothing to do with each other whatsoever. I taught myself part of Children Say, and I tried to play and sing it without the CD. I got completely thrown off, and I STILL can't do it! I can play it without a problem, and sing it without a problem, but I probably won't be able to do both at the same time until I get much better on bass (finger memory will take over). From: TSNPUB Date: Tue, 12 May 1998 10:06:31 EDT Hey gang! Been a while since I threw in my two bits. However, seeing the opportunity to play the smarty-farty intelligentia, I just couldn't let another Edgar Allen Poe reference slip through the wires without saying something. My read on the song is that like a lot of L42 songs, there's a double meaning: "past lives" as in past-live experiences and "past lives" as in ghosts of those who were boppin' around here before. The song hints at there being a connection: An angel comes and shows this guy personal things about himself and in a way seduces him into taking an eerie, spirtual adventure, in which he encounters the paranormal. And, yes, if you read the tale of the Fall of the House of Usher by E.A. Poe (as someone pointed out yesterday) the story-lines are similar. In the end, I don't think either character really gets what he originally anticipates: "An angel came to me last night, she sold me down the river of life" which contradicts an earlier notion that the character is a "king not a slave." However, he may have made out better than the dude in the Poe tale who, shall we say, becomes the victim of a unfortunate real-estate deal. I think "PL" is an imaginitive song and am especially fond of the fact that it incorporates the bass line from the PP bass solo before "LG." I think Morgan says that we might hear that line again in an older, un-released song that will be part of the re-issues. Hope those traveling to the other side of the pond have a fantastic time! Yeah, Page is so spiritual and I think it really shows in his music. If I were into such things, I might say that he is an "old soul". It's called "Shelter Me", released on a record label called Blue Thumb which I believe is part of GRP. It's definitely on par with his other recordings, though a bit subdued by and large. I believe it's still in print and available at better stocked record stores. For someone who is a Richard Page fan (and I know you are), it is definitely worthwhile. =================================== Will Greer Empower Solutions, LLC Denver, Colorado (303) 888-7154 mailto:Will_Greer @ EmpowerSolutions.com http://www.EmpowerSolutions.com =================================== ------------------------------ Subject: Yeah, well... I just want to tell all of you that are going to any Levelfests in a few days that I hope you all have a wonderful time and that I am extremely jealous that I cannot be with you! I will save my pennies and I swear to God I will go one day! I've been a digester since March. It's been great to read the banter back and forth, even the stuff about bass lines which I don't understand (not being a bass player). I stand in awe... I just ordered the "Live at Wembley" VHS tape. Less than 24 hours later and I've watched it twice! The concert looks like it was in 87, the year I saw L42 in October and December. Nice to go back, but am looking forward to hearing MK's new stuff. Being a girl, and thinking the way I do, does anyone know how MK got the scar on his face? Just wondering, it adds character to his face, doesn't detract at all. And for the other digester that noticed MK tripping in the video, yep, it's there. Have fun at the Fests all and take lots of pictures! It really amazed me to hear this song, so I pumped up the volume and had to explain to all my colleagues what the hell was so special. Later they played It's over.
