From: Winman42 Date: Sat, 9 May 1998 07:56:42 EDT Spaldo my man, I listened to 'One In A Million' with the headphones on this morning, and I 'think' I hear a voice at the 00:13 mark during this track. Sounds like some piece of voice slipped though during the mix. Is this what you were referring to? I doubt that I could figure out what is being said. That reminds me of the intro to 'The Pursuit Of Accidents' where Mark and possibly Phil say something. I have never been able to figure about exactly what is being said. Regarding Phil, I know he Mark, and Boon played a concert in 1976 for Greenpeace, with Mark & Boon switching off on bass & guitar. This info came from a Level 42 Tour programme. Also, in the Tour programme for 'World Machine is says that "Phil dons a wetsuit and windsurfs as every opportunity" Dave, thanks for the 'heads-up' on Valerian, I'll be sure to keep my eye out for it. I also have plenty of Andreas Vollenweider on vinyl and CD. Don't know how I was turned onto his music, but I love it. Also been a big fan of the albums by Patrick O'Hearn, with the soundtrack to the live action movie 'Crying Freeman' being a personal fave. Have you seen the issues of Guitarist from '91 > (MK on the cover) and '94 (MK on his studio)?? If you can't track these > down I'll make some copies available. I have got a copy of Jocks (DJ Mag) from May '87 with Kinger on the front cover. The article co-incided with the release of "To Be With You Again" as a single in the UK market. Comments are from MK about how he dosen't like his own voice yawning over all the nice music, and from Phil Gould about the amount of touring being very physical and not very inventive regarding new material (hence his departure soon after?). Also Phil recognising Wally and Mark as being the creative figureheads, with Wally being L42's answer to George Martin (Beatles mentor). Also the article closes about the guys being advised to become tax exiles and recording in Dublin or Paris. Phil hated the thought of that (another reason to quit sticks!) Jocks described the TBWA single as "wordily jittering 114.75bpm staccato throbber, an unmemorable song, overshadowed by the flip's 113bpm Shep Pettibone remix of their old `Lessons in Love` smash!" (Ha!) Interesting to note that "Running in the Family" single was at the following positions in Europe's Disco top 20 chart April '87:- Denmark - No.1 Finland - No.3 Tony ------------------------------ Subject: Love In A Peaceful World / Forever Now Question... From: The Saint Date: Sat, 09 May 1998 09:09:59 -0400 I actually found this CD single in a small record store in Princeton NJ last week. The edit and old skool mix would have made the song the perfect US radio single. It is so air friendly it's a shame that RCA didn't think enough to try and promote the album stateside.... That's all it comes down to, proper promotion. speaking of Forever Now material, I still don't know why Resurgence dropped "All Over You" (did well in the UK charts) from thier Forever Now release... Was it for space reasons to fit all the b-sides? Ok, so here's my question: For those of you who like the song "All Over You", what song would you have been willing to sacrifice from the 2nd Forever Now CD in order to keep the song on the album????? Paul F PS: Is everyone getting ready for the flashback summer concerts this year? Culture Club - Howard Jones -The Human League, B-52's and The Pretenders, KC & The Sunshine Band and more???? Is this cool or what........ ------------------------------ Subject: Tambu From: "Allwyn & Laura Kelly" Date: Wed, 6 May 1998 23:10:15 -0700 Good cd . I highly recommend it. Since a few people have mentioned DD sounding like L42, I have listened to DD trying to hear the resemblance, but really can't. I guess maybe they sound so different to me because I have heard DD so much. Unlike a girlfriend I had who hasn't heard either a whole lot and and always said "They all sound the same!". Thanks for the info on Richard Page's Third Matineel, Will. I'll definately try to get it. Does anyone from the UK have some good L42 stuff taped off TV that you can covert to NTSC? Brian.
