From: Adam Hankinson Date: Sun, 19 Apr 1998 13:01:17 +0100 Hello friends.... Yesterday, Reggie asked about info on the web about Status and Jaydee basses. Here's the URL for Status at Trace Elliot: http://www.trace-elliot.com/ (homepage) Or http://www.trace-elliot.com/instint.htm (status page) I don't know any Jaydee sites :-( Michael mentioned the film with L42 in.... The film that L42 were in was called the Fantasist. They played Love Games in a night club and are on for about 30 seconds. Check out: http://uk.imdb.com/Title?Fantasist,+The+(1986) The film is rubbish! (IMHO) Well I have a copy and have never made it through to the end!! And finally, Hi to Terek. You finally got here. Enjoy your stay. Adam ------------------------------ Subject: Rare sale From: beezer @ tip.nl Date: Sun, 19 Apr 1998 18:09:51 +0000 Hello everyone, I have updated my LEVEL 42 SALES LIST. While Mark still maintains a relationship with Status, I believe he's long since given up the JayDee's for Alembics (the JayDee is basically an Alembic knockoff anyway). Hansen" Organization: Worldmachine Technologies Corporation Date: Sun, 19 Apr 1998 14:32:12 -0400 (EDT) In response to Bilal's question about London hotels... here's what I've found out: The hotel where a few others are staying (Lolita et al) is The Crofton, but it has no more vacancy for that weekend. I found another hotel that is about a mile away (just north of Hyde Park) called the Garden Court Hotel, so that's where I'm staying. They still had some vacancy as of last week when I made my reservations... here are some homepage URL's: Garden Court Hotel: http://www.a1tourism.com/uk/a89.html Crofton Hotel: http://www.a1tourism.com/uk/a15911.html And there's general information about lots of other London hotels at: http://www.a1tourism.com/uk/london-central.html FYI, I was able to send a fax to these places via the net (no phone call needed) -- everything (from checking reservations to booking) can be done without making a phonecall. I would like to take this post to publicly thank everyone involved with the compilation and production of the "As Years Go By" CD, especially Matthew Blackmon. I just received mine, and it sounds fantastic. This is like having a brand new Level 42 album! The purpose of making "As Years Go By" was to fill in the gaps for those fans (and impoverished Midwesterners like myself!) missing many obscure tracks only to be found as B-sides on Level 42's singles. JUST SO YOU KNOW, "As Years Go By" fulfills its purpose completely. I don't know how I would have had access to these songs if it weren't for this disc. Again the sound quality is great and the songs are a dream come true. Outstanding job. John ------------------------------ Subject: Mixed emotions... From: "Andre Huijts" Date: Sun, 19 Apr 1998 23:55:49 +0200 Geeeeeeeee, I was just watching _the_ Dutch national sports program (Studio Sport) and they had a large item about Ajax (Amsterdam) who became Dutch soccer champion.......(Funk that !). Some of you may know I'm a Feyenoord-fan (Rotterdam), (hey, I can't help being born about 100 yards from their stadium !) and those two soccer clubs are the biggest rivals you could imagine.... Well what has this to do with Level 42 I hear you say, well the thing is they had some special attention for (I hate to admit) the superb goal-keeper of Ajax and they showed some of his best safes during this season, and these pictures were enhanced by the instrumental middle part (they repeated it) of "It's over" ! So this song will never be the same for me anymore......always when I hear it from now, I will be reminded of this terrible moment (for us Feyenoord-fans that is......) Then again........Millions of viewers heared some Level 42, and that's never bad is it......;) ! Well I hope the title of the song will be a future sign for Ajax ! HA ! Something else, Arjan was it you who pointed out that L42 was in the Dutch Top 100 of all times ??? About two weeks ago I saw a TV commercial for a CD from this Top 100, and saw L42 was pictured on the cover. And Forever Now was actualy played on Dutch National radio at the early morning show (Radio 3, Edwin Evers) 'bout a week ago......at least it makes a change from the usual RITF,LG,LIL,HW....... Lolita, short note, not sure if I will be there....... send you a personal mail when I will be sure..... Jeff, whatever has held up sending the 'Pursuit of Accidents' disc, I would like to work out with you. Please let me know what the holdup is. My email address is greg @ net2001.com. If your email address, RUvirtual2 @ aol.com has changed, let me know how I can reach you otherwise. Hello to Terek, welcome to the digest. Reggie, I haven't looked on the web for info on Jaydee or Status basses, but you can check out loads of product info on another of Mark's favorite bass makers at www.alembic.com. A while ago, probably in fall of 1997, a digester asked about a change in tone at the beginning of Mr. Pink, live. Well, my ears definitely hear a change of tone between the first time the intro lick is played and the second time. It sounds like Mark moves up one half step for the second one, and plays in that key for the rest of the song. Has anyone else noticed this? The regular key sounds fine to me, and I am curious why the boys would want to play it otherwise. Lolita and all participants of the international Levelfest; You couldn't have positioned yourselves better for a visit by Mark. What a thrill it will be if he comes by. take care for now, Greg ------------------------------ Subject: Arizona LevelHeads From: "janet.morgan" Date: Sun, 19 Apr 1998 23:36:28 -0700 Is there anyone out there from Arizona or the SW? Reading about the various Fests (and going to one) makes me proud to be part of the Digest family. I don't think a day goes by without me listening to Level 42, and all of you are my brothers and sisters in our love for the group. Even though some subjects always bring out the hammers and tongs, overall there's very much a strong friendship here, based on the unique combo of intelligence, musical skill and groove this band gives us. For those of you who don't know what this programme is about, it's a topical news quiz on BBC2 in the UK which generally ends up taking the piss out of the news for that week. (George Micheal jokes were in abundance !!!). Anyway, one of the rounds involves showing clips of four different people and the teams have to spot the odd one out. Who should pop up as one of the four, but Mark King himself (the clip they showed was from the LIL video). Unfortunately I was in such a state of shock from seeing our hero that I can't for the life of me remember who the other three clips were of !!!!! The odd one out though wasn't MK, but what the three had in common was that they had all left their wives for their nannies !!! (Angus Deayton - the host- said that Mark left Pia for Ria, is this right ???) Moving swiftly on, LevelFest. For those who are interested, I shall be hitting London on Friday evening and staying at my brothers at Forest Gate (near Stratford). Probably be able to meet up on Friday night, if not definitely Saturday. Still not sure whether I can make the Isle or not.
