Zaphod Beeblebrox ------------------------------ Subject: Temporary DOWNTIME for the mailing list From: "Eric J. Hansen" Organization: Worldmachine Technologies Corporation Date: Mon, 29 Dec 1997 18:41:50 -0500 (EST) Hi folks, Effective Dec 30, 1997, I'll be recruiting my computer (worldmachine.com) for use as my company's main mail server. The whole process of switching over may take a few days, and during this time, all mailing lists on worldmachine.com will be temporarily DOWN -- this *includes* the web- and email-based archive engines. Note that email going to the lists *will* be collected in the interim and posted when we're back up, BUT there won't be any digest mailings for a few days -- pehaps until sometime next week (Jan 5th). I'll try to make things as smooth as possible, but there may be some bugs to work out once I get things set up again, so PLEASE BEAR WITH ME! In the meantime, I encourage you all to visit the web sites that are listed at the bottom of each daily digest mailing. Lots of people have worked hard to bring you this up-to-date news and info, so check out their efforts and let them know you care! Thanks for your support -- all the best for the New Year!!! Yer pal, Eric (Manager for Level 42 Digest, Incognito Digest, Go West Digest) p.s. those interested in the logistics of jumping from one 'moving train' on the Internet to another should email me personally... -- Eric J. From: Andrew Goodwin Date: Mon, 29 Dec 1997 11:22:38 +0000 (GMT) Well, he (and the others) were good enough to sit at the stage door and sign autographs and chat with a bunch of us who had hung around after a show here around 1984. Can't remember a thing I said to him other than that it was the sixth time I'd seen them, and I think I only remember that because I still have the programme he autographed which says 'Thanks for coming six times!' I do recall that as they drove off in the van subsequently, he gave us a matey thumbs up (or something similar), and that was a small touch that meant a lot to a bunch of teenagers. So, not enough to definitely confirm him as a decent sort, but probably enough to say that he hadn't (by then at least - I never met him again) acquired the sort of arrogance or distance many in his position do. Just as a matter of practically no interest, the nicest bunch of blokes I ever met were the Icelandic jazz funkers Mezzoforte, who after playing a storming show (yes, really - I know most of their stuff makes Kenny G sound vibrant, but they did a hell of a gig) to a half full auditorium, invited us into their dressing room for a drink and a chat. All round decent chaps. Hope this info helps - someone else will have to do the legwork because I am currently working in Holland during the week. If you need any more info let me know when I am next back in the UK on 16th January 98. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!! Needless to say, I've put all of my efforts into trying to get this stigmata removed from my name (and my email address). Until this blows over, people will need to send correspondance to the following address: zaphod @ arn.net I'll keep everyone informed as to whether or not I'll get my forwarder service back. Later!
