I time the track at 3 seconds shorter than the album version. Anyhow, serious offers only please as this is one of the 50 original pieces of vinyl that Level 42 first pressed (Long before Strategy). It goes for over a hundred pounds but I am ONLY looking to swap it for something. Now then, was it Winston who has a copy of 'Greatest Hits?' thats the kind of thing I would consider, something rare. Yours.....LOZ ------------------------------ Subject: Warning: Sarcastic Post(TM) From: Pat Flanagan Date: Sat, 15 Nov 1997 09:24:12 -0600 > Someone recently mentioned that on older songs Marks singing sounded > like it was throught a lead pipe. I don't know, but I kinda like the > way the group and Marks voice sounded in the early days. Love Meeting > Love comes to mind as a song where I really love his voice. Well, I've rankled plenty of Winston's feathers in the past by slamming Chinese Way, so I'm going to take on another song of theirs that I think is incredibly weak... Love Meeting Love (LML). I've never been able to get into this song, it bores me terribly, particularly when you put it up against Wings Of Love (WOL). LML has this plodding groove thing going that just never catches me (the instrumental version is way better, 'cause at least there's a sax doing SOMETHING in the song), and the lead pipe analogy to describe the vocals is pretty good, though I always kinda thought they put a pillowcase over his head when he did the vocals. WOL, on the other hand, takes the same groove, turns it around, livens it up a bit, and is just more interesting in general. Of course, no one can sing along with it, since Mike hits his high notes in it, but that's a minor point, if you've ever heard my Boon-ish singing. > Definitely, the band member who managed to look the > coolest over the years was Mike. The afro in LG was awesome Yeah, he had a pretty good puff going back then, the cheesy mustache adds to the effect. Look at him on the back of Staring At The Sun, though, what was he thinking with that outfit, it makes him look like he has a beer gut. > 'RITF' has a cool concept, and I think it's where the band look their best. Except for those white jeans, no one looks good in white jeans. > 'It's Over' was another winner, it goes with the New Orleans concept well. I think the band looks its best and most stylish in the Take A Look video. Seriously. Worst look? Definitely Micro Kid, but Lessons In Love is a very close second, we get those somewhat bizarre shirts they were wearing that year, paired up with Mark's worst Aryan haircut. Thanks for the installation instructions in you last post. I still have one question though; what do we do with the bits of paper we've trimmed off of the cover and liner notes? Oh, yeah...and you forgot to caution me against cutting myself with the Xacto knife! Damnit! There are MiSTies among us! Thanks for the response, guys (you know who you are) I've heard "Leaving Me Now" on Muzak several times, and it prompted me to pose a question to those of you Digesters who are very much involved in the music business. What do you think the boys' response would be if they knew that any of their music was played in the Muzak format? Finally, one other question which may prompt a discussion and/or response. In the US, there are now TV commercials which use hit songs from the past as part of their plugs. The royalty checks, of course, go to the band or artist which made the song a hit. If L42 ever came across this situation, how do you think they would respond? From what I've read, this has been a real dilemma for some artists. THUNDERTHUMBS UP to all those who put together the Past & Presense CD. Makes me proud to be a member of this list. Talking about the band is fun, but creating such a nice work as this, well, that's what makes it all worthwhile. The sound and graphics quality were incredible! I got it on a Fri night, and was dancing all night to it, even while I did the dishes. My wife is used to it by now. The baby had fun , too (newest Level42 fan?). Any real fan would know exactly what to do with the tickets - ENJOY THEM!!! Sincere Thanks again to all who put this together. Superb work! And what's with your wedding reception with Jeremy?!? L42 fans are a strange lot, that we are, but what did I miss once I left??? :) Rich mentioned fave videos. Sounds like a challenge for another informal digest poll! I think mine is probably "Leaving Me Now", but for sheer educational value (and the same suit, no less!), it's "Something About You". (Because I saw an interview w/ Mark saying the "SAY" vid was inspired by "A Clockwork Orange" and "The Entertainer", I promptly rented both of 'em when I was 13--big mistake, but I lost my naivete!) The girl in the "Children Say" video looks quite a bit like Mike, wouldn't you say? Maybe a neice....? I've often wondered. Cheers! Heather --- ~~Shemhamforash!~~
