Fabfri ------------------------------ Subject: additional CDROM idea From: "dirk.vael" Date: 22 Jan 97 15:07:13 Heya this demographic enquiry by Bert should be gettin' more attention. Always fun to add a L42 Digester profile onto the L42 CDROM! And yes, the Lowlandslevelfest will be featured on the CDROM too (disc space enough anyway!) So get your ass over there! And big shout to John Mawer (Emikate) for the nice posting. And thanks to Winston for the $$$. Now only Zaron M Frumin his money is missing. When this arrives, I will finally get all my money back from the sell-out bonanza from a few months ago (was worth around $700 in total, and I made only $12 profit!) BTW, my trivia contest (Digest#21) entries are valid till 15/2/97! John Venzon: try to put all (early) live stuff that featured on vinyl onto the live disc, please (so the white flexi promo of Love Games, the different Follow Me version and those 1982-1983 12" live B-sides too). Loz: why don't you get the Lessons In Live italian vinyl onto CD aswell???? I could do it (have pro turntable, pro audio mastering stuff and a burner) And WHO KNOWS TUCKER HASS !!!!!???????????????? take care guys Dirkies ------------------------------ Subject: PARRINGTON'S POINT: Levelfest/EMIKATIE From: pattonse @ plu.edu Date: Wed, 22 Jan 1997 08:50:05 -0800 (PST) Hey folks, SEATTLE LEVELFEST: Star Wars Special Edition on Friday the 31st. An evening show, say around 8pm. let's catch dinner before that. We could either order out for pizza and listen and watch some level 42 stuff while doing it (if Bill's place is available) or we could just go out to dinner somewhere. It's important to note as well that there will be a special screenig, one time only, on Thursday the 30th. The advantage ofgoing to this show is that there will be a free t-shirt from Lucasfilm given to each ticketholder. I've seen it and it is sharp. It's black with the SW logo on it and pictures of the characters. It says Star Wars Special Edition, and something else. (I couldn't make it out since I saw them on Entertainment Tonight) At an rate, I am going to see the movie both nights. So it isup for you all to decide which day you want to go. I somehow think it will be Friday, since everyone's work schedule is goingto be tough. Hey, just tell your bosses you need time off to go see Star Wars. I'm sure they'll understand. :) So here's what to consider: WHICH DAY DO YOU GUYS WANT TO GO? THURSDAY OR FRIDAY. IS BILL'S PLACE THE BEST BET? BETTER YET, IS IT AVAILABLE? DO WE WANT TO ORDER PIZZA AND WATCH LEVEL 42 STUFF, OR DO WE JUST GO TO DINNER SOMEWHERE? IF WE GO OUT TO DINNER, WHERE? WHAT CITY DO WE CATCH THE MOVIE IN? WHO IS INTERESTED? (I would assume a person would want to live within a 40 mile radius of Seattle to come) Let's see if we can bang this out by the weekend. :) LASTLY, I thought I would inform all of the unfortunate bidders that recently tried to acquire items from my friend and me that according to EMIKATIE John, America is in fact not a country where you have the right to practice the freedom to buy, make profit, you know, the whole captialism thing. That's right. Yes, according to EMIKATIE John you need to sell things for retail price, even though you may have paid more than retail originally. Using this theory, Mickey Mantle rookie cards can now be sold at a steal for a nickel a piece. So buy now!!!! If EMIKATIE John wants to talk to my friend, her name is Kim Gaston and her phone number is (206) 589-4327. Feel free to call her and ask her why she is getting rid of certain items. While you are at it, ask her why she unsubscribed herself to the Level 42 Digest awhile ago. Hmmmmmm. Maybe cause she had to read punk postings from people like EMIKATIE John. Just a guess. Also, one more thing. When you call, ask her to re-read my post where I seperate what is mine for bid and what is hers for bid. Ergo, selling things for a "friend." See EMIKATIE John, when you have more than one ofthe same item far sale, perhaps the "profit" issue comes into question. But when there is only ONE of each item, seems to me the fair way is to allow the person that wants it most to have it. How do you do that? Simple. Let them bid. The good news is, EMIKATIE will now be offering all of his Level 42 items to members ofthe Digest for retail. First come first served. In addition, EMIKATIE John will be offering a class for you that bid TOO HIGH for items on how to manage your money. Kind of a personal money manager. Neato! And the real good news is that ERIC HANSON has finally shown that he DOES in fact have some odd kind of ettiqutte ideas when it comes to the Digest. ERIC'S DONT'S: Don't put things up for bid on the Digest. ERIC'S DO'S: Do talk about smashing a Digest member's head in with a bat. Way to go ERIC!!!!!!! Keep up the integrity my friend! Credibilty is just oozing out of you. My advice to ERIC and EMIKATIE John, if you don't like a post, then SKIP OVER IT. Or hey UNSUBSCRIBE! Afterall, people have the right to state their opinion here, right? Oh I forgot. Not JOE PARRINGTON. Got it. Oh, EMIKATIE John: as far as the "deadline crap," well, sometimes when people have a LIFE, and don't want to have to keep fielding bids back and forth, they might do something nutty like oh, let's see, put in a DEADLINE? Na. Too far fetched. Reminds me of little kids when they get upset and pout because mommie didn't buy them an ice cream cone, but another kid is eating one in front of them. Maybe EMIKATIE John's mommie should have broken down and bid on something for him. Oh well. It's past DEADLINE. Wel folks, I hope you have found this as amusing as I have. I don't know what is funnier. My RITF promo or this post. don't play this game with me, Joe "mess with the bull, you get the horns" ------------------------------ Subject: Subscriber stats From: "Eric J. I've added the option to search through the archives with case-sensitivity, and also to directly link from digest subject lines (in the "Topics" section at the top) to the message down below. Check them out at: http://www.worldmachine.com/level42/#archive http://www.worldmachine.com/incognito/#archive http://www.worldmachine.com/gowest/#archive -Eric -- Eric J. How about we get together during the same time period in Las Vegas? I figure since Vegas is the most popular tourist spot in the U.S., it should be cheap to travel to from anywhere. An the lucky folks in California can probably drive down. Anyone interested? I am still plodding along, enjoying all the sniping about whether certain songs were too poppy, too funky, etc. and came to Anthony Burns rec. for the actor to play Mark...Rutger Hauer. Well, that's who I thought of. Great minds think alike, I'd say. Anyways, I've reached July 1, so I am getting closer. I wanted to say that if you have not picked up Vic Wooten's "A Show of Hands" all I can ask is....what the hell are you waiting for? Every time I put this CD in the machine, I send a little thanks RJ's way. Speaking of RJ....you sent me a list of your New Year's Eve playlist and I humbly hafta say that i never heard of. Sigh, now I gotta go and see if I can even FIND some of these people. How about some hints. Thanks for all the good stuff, and man I am really, really looking forward to listening to the AYGB CD...... Doug ------------------------------ Subject: Coupla thingies! From: "Julian Arnold" Date: 22 Jan 1997 17:16:51 -0800 Failte Friends!, Or 'wotcha' as they say in the UK. I've one or two questions to pose. 1- Looks like we're getting very close to the additional CD's, Is the next release a double CD or just the one?. 2- Is BobC still out there?. [he no longer subscribes at that address... -Eric] 5- Does anyone know where I could get Nik Kerhaw's "The Riddle" on CD or at the very least SOME kind of copy of "Easy" from that ...? Thank you for your patience!! Jules. P.S. Where are those bloody Ploydor re-issues...??????? ------------------------------ Subject: The Chant was Heard.. From: RBnDk @ aol.com Date: Wed, 22 Jan 1997 21:27:31 -0500 (EST) Yes.. believe it or not I actually heard "The Chant has Begun". I was watching the San Jose Sharks (hockey team) playing the Vancouver Cannucks ..and in the background I heard them playing "The Chant has Begun".. I couldn't believe my ears. That was the last thing I expected to hear. Also, I recently went CD shopping in Bezerkley, CA and I found the CD single of "Take Care of Yourself" with the video. And I only had to pay $5.00.. Yet again, I was in disbelief. What a bargain.. I sure have been reading alot about "The Chinese Way".. and at first I have to admit that I wasn't too fond of the song, but after really listening to it and talking about it, it really grew on me. But sometimes I wonder what the boys were thinking when they wrote the song.. I don't think I have ever equated swinging paper laterns with Peking..but then again.. I have never been there! "Driven To Desire" kara! ------------------------------ Subject: yieeeha! From: "dirk.vael" Date: 23 Jan 97 11:11:43 Hi guys I WON THE DJ CONTEST!! But since it was a long night, I'm too tired to say more about... maybe next time So long! And remember: my trivia entries are valid till 15/Feb/97 Dirkies ------------------------------ Subject: Beware of Internet Bandits... From: Fabfri @ aol.com Date: Thu, 23 Jan 1997 05:27:59 -0500 (EST) Well, I'm no longer FABFRIDAY since some #$%&* cracked into my account and started hacking through AOL. Anyway, I'm now FABFRI and have access to a computer again.....So I have a few questions: 1) Is Jakko's album worth getting? 2) Was that true not to long ago when somebody mentioned the band reuniting for one last shout in the UK? 3) Is IMAGO going to release any other Level 42 material? 4) What tracks are included on the newest remix album? Is it worth buying if you have the first one? As far as the Chinese Way is concerned, I too am a big fan of the track and got a HUGE responce in college radio whenever I would play it. In fact, we did several radio commercials using the remix intro. In 3 different college stations I played numerous L42 and placed the UK version of Forever Now in our rotation in 1994. In my professional radio career, I featured the entire Live At Wembly album, Learn To Say No, Forever Now, and The Sunbed Song on my former 50,000 watt Modern Rock station in North Carolina. Did rather well. Speaking of radio commercials, in Pennsylvania a few years back, there was a car dealer who ran some spots using the music from Children Say and Running In The Family. "Cross the mountains to Peking....." FAB
