WM - 12" extended version + dub version. Mr. Mister - Go On... unopened LP I didn't buy the L42 stuff, but may go back and buy them later, especially if someone else wants them (I'll send them to you). I know there are some MiniDisc users on this list. I have a turntable, cassette, DAT, + CD, but no MD. I do however have a Tower Records MD Sampler if someone wants it. (Various Artists - no L42). Perhaps we could trade for something. If anyone wants info on any of the above, email me at: Bruce_Conrad @ BMUG.Org. thanks (I also have Overtime 45/At This Great Distance + Lessons In Love 12" ext. vers/WM ext. vers) ------------------------------ Subject: starchild - live? From: "Afzal.Hussain" Organization: University of Manchester Date: Tue, 21 Jan 1997 14:46:01 GMT0BST Hi, my name's Afzal, from Manchester. Twas winter '85, images of that remarkable 'Something About You' video had cut deep into my psyche and consumed my pith - like a billion combination lock and theirs was the key. I was new to music so I sat beside the radio waiting, waiting, then there it was '...#How...' I've seen them live but the moment was too ephemeral.. They never played 'starchild'? Is there a live version? or even a video? Afzal ------------------------------ Subject: Non-Level Post From: Colin Campbell Date: Tue, 21 Jan 1997 13:05:38 -0800 Yes, it's off topic, but based on past conversations, of interest. You know Curt Smith's solo album, "Soul on Board?" Yeah, there's about 20 of them at the Virgin Records Mega-Store in San Francisco, in the import close-out section, marked at $9.99 each. For those who wanted to know. :) Colin jenolen @ earthlink.net http://home.earthlink.net/~jenolen/ ------------------------------ Subject: Live Level 42 CD Votes From: John Venzon Date: Tue, 21 Jan 97 14:20:21 -0000 Everyone interested in the follow up to the AYGB CD: Yow! The response to voting on the track listing for the follow up to AYGB has been amazing! I've gotten over *1* responses! Slow down you nutty guys 'n' gals! Remember, I've got a day job!! So to update here are the proposed track. *PLEASE* email me with your votes on the track listing! Otherwise, It won't reflect the 'greater' good. Send proposals, rants and requests to me at: jvenzon @ aol.com (or is AOL offends you...) jvenzon @ deltanet.com The faster we get the track listing set, the faster I can finish the master, and the... you get the idea. ******* I am getting rid of the track 'numbers' on proposed tracks until we get a little bit further. The first group of tracks are set in stone. I have received death threats if they are removed, so don't even suggest it. Also, they were voted upon my folks before my 'little' breakdown.. er I mean... vacation. 1: Turn it on 2: Mr. Pink 3: 88 (All three deleted tracks from Physical Presence) 4: Mark King Bass Jam from Expohal Hilversum, Holland (1985) 5: Running in the Family (Original Lyrics - 1 of 2 performances not decided yet) ------ These tracks seem like good ideas, and there haven't been any 'bad idea' emails, so they seem like they are going to make it. Email me and let me know... I Want Eyes (I have 5 performances to choose from) It's Not the Same for Us (fair to so-so sound, but wonderful performance) Heathrow (From the Dronten, Holland 12-10-81 show) 43/Dune Tune (From the Dronten, Holland 12-10-81 show) or 43/Drum solo Sandstorm (I have a couple of performances of this) Out of sight, out of mind (2 performances of this) A Pharoah's Dream (2 performances of this as well) ------ These tracks have sparked negative comments, but to date, they are only one person's posting to say drop them. PLEASE email me and let me know if you agree with this person. The Spirit is Free (Level 42's version from Guaranteed Live) 42 (live - NOTE: Not '43' but, 42) (From the Dronten, Holland 12-10-81 show) Fashion Fever (Boston 1987 Soundboard Tape - Nice performace - good sound) The Live tracks from B-side discs (Including Man, Her Big Day and more!) **************** When you email me, please start your subject header with *** so I'll spot them in my sea of emails right away. (Like... ***My votes, Johnnieboy!) So, everyone, please email me with your votes. The disc you chose, may be your own! John V ------------------------------ Subject: Overpriced material for sale From: EMIKATIE @ aol.com Date: Tue, 21 Jan 1997 21:49:03 -0500 (EST) Hi Gang and friends, I was wondering who's worse. The person selling items to make a very tidy profit from their friends or those who pay the prices. I recently sold some items to others at what they cost me. Now I'm kicking myself for not selling them at 2 or 3 times the price. (Not really) After all, the members of the digest are a captive audience and anyone who wants to sell something should have no problem getting rid of it by using these pages. My hat goes off to the enterprising merchants who take what they can get. ***** Eric, please revisit this issue ***** I hope that the actions don't up the ante for others who wish to trade and share their joy of music with their friends. Oh yeah, I guess it's OK if it's not actually ME selling the stuff, as long as they belong to my friend. I would be just helping him out. What's with that deadline crap anyway? The machine stops. John [I had once discouraged a subscriber from "auctioning" off alot of Level material. This person took my suggestion, and went on to sell off a huge amount of material at the price that he purchased it for (rather than the "highest bid") -- a good service to all, I'd say. Despite this, if other people want to sell stuff for profit, that's their perogative. I expressly disallow any sort of commercial advertising, and using the list for profit - i.e., I wouldn't allow CDNOW, CDEurope, or Audiophile to post an ad for their merchandise. But as long as it's an individual just trying to get rid of some stuff, that's fine. The price is another issue, and up to the buyer to decide on whether or not it's too high (as always, caveat emptor!) In any online transactions, I would recommend that buyers ask the sellers for references, and that the transaction be "completed" via a voice telephone call. -Eric] ------------------------------ Subject: PARRINGTON'S POINT: "Running" promo (finally!) From: pattonse @ plu.edu Date: Tue, 21 Jan 1997 20:18:24 -0800 (PST) Folks, Let's get to it. Track 1: LESSONS IN LUNCH - The band was hungry for something else and this version left them unFULLfilled. "All the bread, that we are baking, we never ate them, might taste better, could need butter. Lessons in Lunch." Track 2: CHILDREN LIE - Gives new meaning to "wait till your father gets home." "Well you knew your dad was coming. But did you know he was sent? When you saw the belt in his hand. Did you know that your ass was bent? Was all too much to scream, from the spankings that I get. Well I guess it must have been. Somehow the numbness came and went." Track 3: RUNNING FROM THE ADDAM'S FAMILY - Deemed by Polydor to be too creepy. Too cooky, mysterious and spooky. All together ooky. "Like a museum in a museum. People really come to see 'em. Like a bullet to a gun so is Gomez to his son." and "Couldn't take his eyes of Lurch and Thing." Track 4: IT'S GROVER - The longtime Children's Television Workshop employee says "I'm outta here!" " Don't look for me around Sesame Street. Cause I will beso far....near....far..........near (pant, pant, pant).......far. Track 5: TOO SEE THE ZOO AGAIN - Depressing tale seen through the eyes of a child as his family meets their fate at an ill-fated trip to the zoo. "Mommy help dad if you can. He was feeding the tigers, and now one has his hand. Gramps feel in the tank, got swallowed by a whale. The polar bears are loose and they're eating you." Track 6: ONE SOLID DUDE - The story of a woman who hires a male escort for an evening of "body electric" and "vision thing." "I ride the man that I rent. We can go around the world, for an extra 50 cents. I see he left without a dance. But his bare butt will remember, that he also left his pants." Track 7: FASHION COLD AND FEVER - Originally planned to be released as a single during flu season. "you look to Halls, so you can breathe, try reaching for the NyQuil again. And I'll bet there, forever laughing, watching as you sneeze. Cold and Fever, forever coughing. There's no way to sleep. And when your nose begins to bleed, you'll know you tried to blow it too hard. And what is left is a mucusy mess, cause you left you Kleenex in the car. Track 8: THE SKYWALKERS - Level 42's tribute to the George Lucas classic. "I use the force, flying in my ship. But Vader ruins the day. His saber in one hand, the other around my neck. I'm trying to see it his way. We are both Skywalkers. We only see the things we want to see. I get the feeling, maybe I'm a Jedi Knight." And the bonus track: FREEDOM EVERY OTHER THURSDAY - changed at Polydor's request after FREEDOM SOMEDAY was considered to be too vague. So what promo do we do next? True Colours or Staring at the Sun? Most votes win. :) weaving my spell, Joe ------------------------------ Subject: AYGB! Sorry for the delay... From: Zaphod Beeblebrox Organization: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Date: Tue, 21 Jan 1997 23:39:06 -0600 Hey all! Bad news for the people on the AYGB list- there's going to be another delay in getting discs out. I was in the middle of recording discs yesterday when the machine started to act up. After doing everything HP said to try when this happened, I started another- yep, killed it too! (paint unhappy face here) Ergo, I need to get a hold of HP before I attempt to burn any more discs- that will be Friday. I'll keep everyone aprised as to the situation, and try to put out an updated time line for all involved. Thanks for your understanding, Zap ------------------------------ Subject: Standing up for "The Chinese Way" From: Anne Painter Date: Wed, 22 Jan 1997 01:21:09 -0500 Levelheads, I feel Chinese Way is one of the best tunes Level 42 ever did. It has a great groove, fantastic bass line, and a great solo from Mike! What more could you ask? I agree wholeheartedly with with the Winman! On the uncut Wembley 1987 audio tape: Does anyone know if the video for the 5 songs that got cut from LAW still exist? I wish the vid had the x-tra songs. The video would have only run for 90 minutes with the 5 songs. Does anyone know why they were cut? Keith He is real, He is here, He is Fashionable!!!
