The inlay shows that the song is written by : A. Gardner/M. Cantor/K. Gordon/R. Gould/W. Badarou/M. King As I mentioned earlier, the piano part of Leaving me now is used in this song. I don't know if this single is available worldwide, I just bought it in the Netherlands. CNR music is a division of Arcade music, a Dutch record label. Therefore chanced of getting this single worldwide are slim, I guess. But, you never know if you don't try. And when's the Levelfest in London? I just can't wait to go. Regards, Walter waltfra @ frmail.frco.com ------------------------------ Subject: More On Our Label From: Paul Fucito Date: Sat, 28 Jun 1997 09:16:00 -0700 I did forget to mention and Pat's message reminded me... I would encourage our releasing indie bands and undiscovered acts in addition to Level 42... Here's an option... I keep in regular contact with Carl Caprioglio at Oglio Records and if we were to generate enough interest and put him in contact with Crockford, perhaps he can do the work for us. He's got his re-issue label all set (Freur, Men Without Hats, King, Richard Blade's Flashback Favorites, Flashback Cafe, Hit That Perfect Beat, etc...) Last year I put him in contact with Alphaville's manager (the manager actually called me from Germany and gave me a message from the band) and Oglio Records has put that project on the back burner for now... If they won't release a whole Level 42 album, I'm sure we can get a rare track or remix on a future compilation of his... I apologize for my lack of knowledge, I guess I'm just nuts...Anyway, Carl Mueller is going to hook me up with a copy of Mike's CD "Changes," and I'm pretty excited about that, but if any of you know how I may be able to get it on CD, I would deeply appreciate it if you could share that info with me. Speaking of Carl, you should check out his web page if you haven't already (http://www.inland.net/~cmueller/albums/albums.htm), it's awesome. paul ------------------------------ Subject: Wang-King Once Again! From: J Shuford Date: Sat, 28 Jun 1997 09:44:32 -0700 (PDT) Okay, this is not a joke. One of the local radio stations (here in Eugene) is putting on a First Day of Summer celebration today. The headline act is WANG CHUNG!!! And you know what? There's nary a sign of Mark King in the recent promo photo that was run in the Arts & Entertainment section of the paper. Everybody Wang-King Tonight!!! Unfortunately, I already have plans for the evening, or else I would catch the show. Annually? I hope that I will be fortunate to attend one of these great events. Sounds like everyone had a blast in Vegas. Since I'm in San Diego, had I known there was going to be a levelfest, I would have gladly driven 6 hrs to be a part of such a momentous occasion. I have all of Jamiroquai's CD's, and they are all excellent, especially the latest. Travelling WIthout Moving, I feel is one of the best CD's to come out this year. To appreciate the innovativeness of the group, you have get the first two CDs and also see them in concert. They put on one hell of a show, and they are all extremely talented musicians, save Jay who sticks to the vox, which to me, is a talent in it's self. Check out what Jay has to say inside the CD sleeve of Emergency on Planet Earth , you'll be surprised as to how consciuos and caring he is about issues that concern our planet. As for the new Swing Out Sister CD, I have it and it took a couple of days for it to grow on me. The song "We Can Make It Happen" has a very Carpenter-like feel to it. I didn't particularly care for that song, but the more I listened to it, the more I liked it. That song also makes me think of the Brady Bunch doing their song that they did on one of their shows back in the day. Overall, the Cd is not as funky as The Living Return, but I still like it...SOS were on tour in LA about a week ago at the House of Blues according to tour info on their website. I think their next destination was Bimbos 365 in San Fran following that venue... As for the song TWH, I hadn't noticed the simlarity to that comercial. How unfortunate because I abhor those lame commercials. Hopefully when I listen to the CD, I can get past that and enjoy it for what it is. EW&F touring in Aug.! I imagine it will be nothing like the days of old when they had the kick-butt horn section and all of the original members. Man, I'd have given anything to have seen them during their prominence. Marcus Miller's CD The Sun Don't Lie is the BOMB!! Doug, could you elaborate on why you thought his last two CD's were disappointing. Since I haven't heard either, I was interested in why they weren't as good as the aforementioned. Does anyone know if Gavin Harrison has a CD outas a leader? And the Jakko CD, what is it like? Paul Wilson ...whatever you desire, oooh child, I'll promise you the moon... ------------------------------ Subject: Sorry Dolby, Sound Reduction sucks... From: Roxanne Moore Date: Sat, 28 Jun 1997 11:38:11 -0700 >... Dolby is a certified cool guy, talented songwriter, musician and geek. Yeah, I agree. However, I gotta ask all you Levelz out there. Who all uses that DOLBY NR button anyways? It's supposedly one the best stereo functions ever, but I NEVER use it! It's like listening to a live band and putting them under a giant glass bowl. Or listening to a tape player that hasn't had the head cleaned in 10 years! Just don't like the sound reduction thing. GIVE ME SOUND! That's me anyhow. Perhaps there's other really practical functions for the DOLBY NR button that in my, nieve and simple stereo listening practices, am simply not aware of. Someone, I'm sure, will enlighten me on this. :) Just curious what otherz think:) Message to Marcus B: What up with the MIME e-mails pal? I don't get it, I don't "speak digitalk" ok? :) take care levelz- p.s. Are there any LevelHeads in the Los Angeles Area? I'm in Burbank, CA, just wondering if I'm a loner out here. .......and i'll be there, forever laughin......... rox Roxanne M. [FYI, Thomas Dolby (full name Thomas Morgan Dolby Robertson) has *no* affiliation with Dolby Labs. In fact, he's been mistakenly associated with them so often in the past, he is quite negative about the whole issue (Dolby Labs also tried to get him to change his performing name because of potential trademark infringement... I don't know if it went to court, but obviously he flatly refused and rightfully kept on using his own name.) I had the pleasure of interviewing him back in 1988 (at college), and when someone else jokingly asked about his work with Dolby Labs, he got very, very annoyed. -Eric] ------------------------------ Subject: The New Sister... From: John Shuford Date: Sat, 28 Jun 1997 12:47:34 -0700 I picked up the new Swing Out Sister album today, "Shapes and Patterns." My feeling at this point: don't bother with it. I was expecting them to continue getting even jazzier, funkier, more live sounding. Instead, they went back to heavy production, a slow sound, and the Burt Bacharachesque lyrics. It sounds like they just updated the stuff on "Kaleidoscope World"--a major disappointment! In fact, there is even a new version of one of the songs from "The Living Return" on here--and it's nowhere near as cool as the original version. The artwork is several years old--I've seen these pictures of Drewery and Connell as long ago as three years--and the lyrics aren't included! The only 42 connections are Steve Sidwell (trumpet) and Paul Stavely O'Duffy (production and mix).It also sounds too tinny. I've had a helluva time getting enough bottom end out of the disc, and I NEVER have that problem with anything else. Big thumbs down from here... However, there is good news, and even 42-ish news, to report from my trip to the record store. I have found copies of Midge Ure's "The Gift" and a Nik Kershaw compilation disc for about $10 new. They each feature Mark King's gorgeous bass grooves. Also, if anyone is in need of 42's "The Remix Collection," "Live at Wembley," or "Forever Now," let me know. These are similarly inexpensive (between $11 and $15).
