I would love to have that one. I do own the RITF and SAY CDV's. That's how they are usualy called.(Actualy CD video, which is TOTALY different from Video CD !!!) I think there are one or two others. Think they are listed in the discography on the Level 42 page ! Now how I would love to have a Laserdisc player to actualy watch the video's ! > Speaking of It's Over, it's pretty obvious that this video was made for > the American audience. I know this sounds a bit glib, but did It's Over > *look* like an "American" video. Back when this single was released I > noticed that they'd added a slide guitar: was this all part of the plan? Mmmm, propably yes. I have the Staring at the sun promo cd and HIMH is different from the "regular" version. It doesn't have the handclaps in the intro, and Mark's bass is more present. ALso the track is a bit longer. I think they polished that one as well for the American market, because they did want to break through there with that album. Hi all you guys who will be visiting the Levelfest. I have arranged a HIFI VCR (S-VHS), so we will be able to hear all the videotapes you guys will bring (I only have three !) in excellent soundquality ! Also I have arranged a digital photocamera so we can make some pictures to put on the web directly !!!!! (Who has any webspace for this, and the knowledge how to do it ?) I am also trying to arrange a Laserdisc player IF any of you guys have extra CDV's or maybe even LD's. As you can see on my previous list I have the RITF and SOY CDV's, but it would only be worth wile if we have a little more software. It IS hard though, nobody I know even has a Laserdiscplayer, and NOBODY is hiring them.....PLEASE RESPOND ! (Think about copying your CDV's to (S-)VHS HIFI, much better than original factory tape !) Another nice surprise...... It is very likely that we will have a camerateam to make a reportage (is this English ?) of the very first LowLandsLevelFeest. It will be a professional team who work for National and Regional TV stations like SBS 6, NCRV etc. So maybe we will end up on Dutch television.......:) Or maybe we just all get a nice videotape of the first (you were there !) LowLandsLevelfeest. Either way I think this is nice, what do you guys (galls ???) think ? Now once again I am calling on everyone who is in the neighborhood (Europe that is) on FEBRUARY 15 to come and visit the first LOWLANDSLEVELFEEST !!! Think of all the great things it can bring you: -finaly meet the people behind the e-mails ! -meet other Level 42 addicts ! -share your problems with L42 addicts who know how you feel ! (Oh no you're not playing that CD AGAIN are you ?......) -blab or talk about the music ! -drink very good coffee ! -show off your personal collection ! -trade or sell your extra stuff ! -listen to/watch material you never heard/saw before ! -get your hands on material you never even heard off ! -visit some great secondhand record stores, where rare L42 stuff is regularly on stock! -have a great day ! -meet me ! ;) (Grapje) So delete all your previous dates in your agenda, and come to the LowLandsLevelfeest ! I left The Chinese Way off my list of underapreciated tracks because, well, you know, why beat a dead horse? I think I'll go listen to it now, and then cry myself to sleep... tcoy, Win ------------------------------ Subject: Artfacts/Rarities - uh oh!! From: EMIKATIE @ aol.com Date: Fri, 17 Jan 1997 14:39:54 -0500 (EST) Uh oh!!! To Lazlo: In trying to list my rarest piece, I may have gone one step beyond. You see, in our house, we are kind of tongue in cheek. It's good to see you're a Madness fan though. However, wouldn't it be great if Mark did do an overdub on that song. To Dirkies: John Mawer here!!! One request. When you finally ship out the CD-R project discs, please be sure to use the Scratch n Sniff stamps. To John Wallace: Thanks again for the tape of AH!! Good stuff there!!! To All: Doesn't it seem like "The Chinese Way" is an extended mix no matter what version you listen to? Also, quick, how many times is "Chinese Way" uttered in the 5:53 mix and how many in the Extended mix. Well, I'll tell you. But first, let's get this info bookmarked as you have no idea what I went through to get these answers. 5:53 mix 19 times 7:23 mix 13 times So, if it's the refrain and words, "The Chinese Way", you hate, you are better off listening to the extended mix. I'm glad I could be of service in this matter. Last item: I just noticed the whistle blower on Weave Your Spell at just after the 4:00 mark. How did he get into the studio? The machine stops. John M - USA ------------------------------ Subject: Vic Wooten and The Chinese Way From: "BIIGG DOGGIE" Date: Fri, 17 Jan 97 17:59:36 PST Hey Gang, I was reading (some more, it seems I'm doomed to be continually catching up, just finished June 4th) some of the previous digests and have to agree with RJ, Vic Wooten's "A Show of Hands" is just tremendous. If you like the Bass, grab this CD if you haven't already. Now, I see where Bela Fleck's unique sound comes from, I could not get over the impression that the banjo would begin playing, but still Vic can flat out play! Those of you who have not had the pleasure of listening to any of Bela, check his CDs out, I'm pretty sure you'll like what you hear. One last Bela note and I'll get to some Level 42 stuff, I saw a CD w/Bela, an Asian woman (Chinese?) playing a violin (Cello?) and an Indian playing a Sitar (I think). I was wondering if anybody has heard this or owns it and what their impressions of this CD was. I was tempted, but I bought the "Live Art" double CD, for $18! no less, and this CD is absolutely marvelous. In the venacular, you could say it was the BOMB!, but I'd look ridiculous saying it. So I won't. I wanna thank Lolita for responding to my email about all the goodies that were available, but I had gotten replies from the people actually doing the things I had questions about, but none- the-less Lolita thanks for the reply. As for Loz and Zaphod (hee hee) I put some moolah in the mail, well a check actually, and hope you'll receive them post haste. I now have another reason to anticipate my upcoming mail. And no Zaphod, preknowledge is still no reason not to jump to recent digests, I'd rather know what is going on along the way. But, you HAVE tempted me, dammit, now I gotta go back to reading. I AM catching up.....besides, what the heck is wrong with 'The Chinese Way'? I think that song is great....but then I haven't found a song I don't like. Doug ------------------------------ Subject: PARRINGTON'S POINT: Seattle Levelfest/ Bids/ & the rest! From: pattonse @ plu.edu Date: Sat, 18 Jan 1997 00:24:17 -0800 (PST) To the folks in the Seattle area, I think it is safe to say that everyone wants to catch Star Wars Special Edition. Now, it opens the 31st of this month, and it's fine with me if we catch it then........BUT......if we see the sneak preview of it on the 30th, we get a free t-shirt from Lucasfilm for being the first to see it. Either way, I will be happy to get tickets for whoever wants to go when the box office opens. Why don't we say this. We order out for pizza, catch the flick, and then grab dessert afterward. But first, which day do you all want to go and *exactly* how many of us are there? Personally, I'm going to see it both days. So either is fine with me. But let's figure this out soon, as we have less than two weeks to prepare. In other news, I am still taking bids until tomorrow night at midnight Pacific Standard Time. For those of you that missed it, check the Digest from yesterday and see my post for some goodies up for grabs. Let's see, what else. Sorry to hear about the OKC Levelfest going down the tubes. Seems there could be legal action taken. My question is why you all don't make arrangements to just go to another hotel. Because if people can't get a ticket refund, there's gonna be alot of money wasted. It's not fair that everyone should pay the price for someone else's incompitence. How many people were coming? How many from Europe? Aye yi yi. Finally, those of you that were eagerly awaiting my RITF promo, take heart. It will be in tomorrow's Digest. Promise. My mailman just delivered it to me five minutes ago (which is a hoot since I'm writing this at 12:30 in the morning). So, hold tight one more day. Curious. Of the three I have done so far (Guaranteed, Standing in the Light, and World Machine) what do you all think was the best. E-mail me. Typing in my sleep, Joe P.S. - There is also one more item of MINE for bid: A Standing in the Light album from A&M with the alternate cover art. Send in those bids. It's in great condition, both the sleeve and record.
