Bill Miller ------------------------------ Subject: LevelFest, off topic From: Tony Bassette Date: Wed, 18 Jun 1997 12:56:11 +0200 (MET DST) Hi there, My opinion is that you can make the levelFest anywhere you want, but London seems to be a very nice place for that, lots second hand shops (I never go out there friends told me that ;) ) where we could find some level missing stuffs (??) what do you think ... IOW why not we could drink beer or cider at JoDaFlo's bar and sing all days and night until Mark decide to meet us :-) From the off topic part of my subject, I went to the concert of BuckShot LeFonque yesterday night, the actual band of Branford Marsalis, mix of different music style and components, I can say Crazy Guys on Stage the Keyboard is excellent and funny, only one regrets, the bassist is not powerful enough, but good player also that the more important thing at all ... If anyone else know this group please feel free to send me a note about it. I was born in Colorado but now live in Cheltenham - England. Could someone tell me more about this LevelFest and where to go. I would love it if it was in London I am a Bass Player and one of my friends who works in our local music shop will be at a trade fair sometime this week - News is that the Master King is supposed to be endorsing Fender Basses. I can't envisage it somehow - Mark made the Alembic and Status Basses what they are. Also - I dont know if you are interested but the Company who produced Marks Amplifiers - 'Trace Elliot' have gone bust. a real shame as they quality in their stuff is unsurpassed. Would like to say Hello to Zaphod for being so quick to respond to my Mail with regards to AYGB. Can I ask if there are any Chelsea Football Club supports amongst you. Another useless peice of info about them (CFC that is). Our previous manager - who is now the England coach (Glenn Hoddle) - says that Level 42 is his favourite (or favorite) band. He would play their stuff before all his matches!!!! Thanks for reading Dave ------------------------------ Subject: Wang Chung, Survey From: Pat Flanagan Date: Wed, 18 Jun 1997 11:38:29 -0400 Personally, I like the idea of Wang-King (yes, I know what you're thinking), but I know it's all a joke. I have a survey I'd like to present. Please email me privately (pfpd @ pfpd.com) with your top ten songs of the 1980's THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE REMADE AND ON THE RADIO. When I say remade, it can mean either a cover version that is very faithful to the original, or a complete re-do that may sound totally different than the original, it doesn't matter. And don't worry about "they'd never re-do this song, the band broke up," being remade by a different band is pretty much what I mean. If I notice any interesting trends, I'll let you know. Thanks! Although this didn't happen to me, it happened to the guy who got me into L42, my brother. He lives in Atlanta and for my graduation from college he went to one of the local malls in order to get me a L42 hat made. The guy making the hats flipped out when he saw my brother's L42 shirt. "LEVEL 42, THEY'RE THE BEST MAN, WHAT'S THAT SONG, OH MAN THEY'RE THE BEST!!!', ETC..... From: Chuck Date: Wed, 18 Jun 1997 20:11:35 +0000 Hey Hey Hey! I had to bail out of the Vegas trip too, and I'm bummin'. I was really looking forward to meeting everyone who's going there. I want to associate the names with the faces too. So I second the idea Randall came up with. We need a members page where we could have our pictures posted. I'm sure somebody out there has the technology (and time) to put our photos on a website. I checked out Winston's site today where Lolita posted the pics from her trip. How cool to see her, Mighty, Andre, the Bones and Joe Dafloes on my screen! I'd love to see what everyone else looks like. Wouldn't you? Can somebody tackle this project? If I had the equipment and the knowledge, I would. I'd even be willing to help out with leg work or something. Let's think about it. To everyone going to Vegas: Have fun; wish I were there. Take pictures, videos, etc. Document this one for the archives. Y'all are Almost There! A page > that has a picture of everyone so we can all know what we all look like, > maybe with some brief profiles or something. I know there are hundreds > of digesters but I'm sure we could accommodate. Just an idea. GREAT idea ! Not that I think looks are important, but putting a face to a name (or even an e-mail address) makes it much easier to remember who' who and so on..... 2] Wang Chung Paul Fucito writes: > I disagree somewhat that Wang Chung would be a waste of time. After all, > compared to Level 42 (in America anyway) they were more successful and > well known. Well, I'm afraid I think hat this says more about the general "taste" in the US than about the quality of the band ! ! ! Luckely _plenty_ Americans _do_ have great taste, most of them are digesters ;) ! OK Yanks start flaming me now ! ;) ! > Right now they are on the air-waves again with the remix of > "Dancehall Days". I think Mark King NEEDS the exposure of a fairly well > known band right now. Remember, this is in terms of America. You ask > people if they remember Level 42 and they look at you like your speaking > another language..mention Wang Chung, that's another story... Funny but this is _EXACTLY_ the other way around in Europe. I don't think many people remember WC over here, L42 is _still_ well known. Not everyboy likes'em but at least everyone here knows there first hit Love Games (well that was there first hit in Europe) and of course the serie of hits they scored with the RITF album..... Those songs are still played quite regularly on radio over here (of course not every hour, but I would estimate at least once a week on the various radiostations..... > Level 42 is dead, at least right now...Like the rest of you I PRAY that > they will try again and really hit it big again... But I'd rather see > Mark King DO something than wait forever to see him release his solo work > that has been put on hold for how long now???? 100 % agreed on that ! If I'm ever going to get on the Isle of Wight, I'll go straight to his house to kick his lazy butt and tell him to get working again ! (Lock him in the "Summerhouse" for some weeks, confiscate all his garden hardware) Maybe that's why he's selling his house: the IOW is not the most inspiring place to be in the world, however lovely it may be. Maybe he just has to go somewhere else to find inspiration, or maybe it's just he can't afford the mortgage anymore........ 3] EW&F Fabror Frans writes: > Earth, Wind and Fire are kicking off their European Tour. I saw them > yesterday in Gothenburg, Sweden. > All of you who know them, dig them or should get to know them, check > them out! Yeh, they'll be at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague too. I hope they'll do a seperate gig in Holland as well, I am not going to pay the insane price for a days atmittance plus extra cost for the top-acts just to see EWF. 4] CD tip For anybody who likes lazy funk and/or Sade style of music: Buy "Maxwell's Urban Dance Suite". Stuart Matthewman (the musical man behind Sade) did a lot of writing and playing on this CD. Maxwell has a great voice too. It is really a CD for long warm lazy summer evenings..........and all that comes with it ! ;) (nodge nodge, you'know you'know, say no more....) 5] International LevelFest: I still vote for London, although IOW would be nice too (I can picture it now: we all stand in front of Mark's house (if he still lives there) and sing LMN acapella. Mark then comes out, all in tears, gives us all a big hug, and promises us to get back to work on his new material.....) [DREAMING MODE OFF] BUT ! ! But no matter what place we choose, we should have somebody in the area who is willing to (help) organise things ! Did anyone think about this ? Are there digestes living on the IOW ? London ?
