P.S. email me with your votes - but if you express a preference on the digest I will also count that as a vote. Not you, not me, Only memory ------------------------------ Subject: Levelfests From: Lolitaj @ aol.com Date: Tue, 17 Jun 1997 08:59:44 -0400 (EDT) Hey All: About the International Levelfest... Here is my city ranking: London - London is cool as shit. All the bars and clubs are hot right now, everybody who's anybody performs there, they have great record stores and it doesn't get dark until 10:30 in the summertime. I love London, so that is my ultimate vote. NYC - Cheap bastard that I am, I would have no problem having it in NY. Inexpensive hotel rooms are hard to come by though, but I suppose we would have the same problem in London. This is definitely an option, and Winston and I would be great hosts. Holland - I like Holland a lot and had a good time there, but don't know enough about it. I figure if we are going to cross over the Atlantic, we may as well go to England where the band is from. Florida - I have to discourage this idea for a number of reasons: 1)It is too family oriented, and most of us will be single without children. I go to Orlando quite often (I was born 20 minutes away, my family lives there and I also go for work) and believe me when I tell you that Mickey Mouse and his friends are absolutely shoved down your throat. It becomes annoying after awhile. 2)We would have to have it in the summertime so that the students could attend, and as a result it would be very expensive since this is the high season, 3)That being said, Orlando is in former swampland, and as a result being there in summer is like being in hell. VERY hot and humid. Anyway, now that I have thoroughly dissed Florida I have to say my little disclaimer: I actually am quite fond of my home state, I just don't think we should have our Levelfest there. For the person who asked about an alternate White Funky title, I was with Alex Thomas in Munich and we saw it. It is called Live in Zurich 1983 and the cover looks different. Being the idiot that I am, I of course didn't buy it and as a result will probably never see it again. I have a great story. I was at a barbeque last Thursday night and I had my pictures from Europe with me, which included pictures of some of you. There is one picture of Morgan and I holding a picture of Mark King, and one of the guys goes 'Hey, that's Mark King. He's a great bass player.' I was stunned that he recognized him, and he said 'Yeah! Mr. Pink is one of my favorite songs.' I almost fell to the floor. Turns out he didn't know about Forever Now so I schooled him on that. I will get him to subscribe to the Digest, and will try to get him a copy of AYGB. That was our bonding moment, and he is a great guy. I felt very proud of the band right then. Speaking of the pictures.... The URL where the various European Levelfest pictures can be found is: http://www.hkcinemaweb.com/winman42/ljpage.htm Eric, could you link this to the worldmachine site? Lolita [Wow! What a great "tour de force" that was! I've linked it to the Digest homepage already... -Eric] ------------------------------ Subject: Sorry guys... From: "Randall Collins" Date: Tue, 17 Jun 1997 09:08:19 -0500 I've been confronted with a situation that makes me sort of sad but it also makes me glad in another way. I had planned on coming to the Vegasfest with my wife and had it planned out for the most part. Well, my wife told me a couple of days ago that she had planned her vacation time from July 2nd to July 20th. Since we are trying to budget our money we felt it was best to devote our resources for a trip we're planning for this time. I was REALLY looking forward to meeting most of you and my wife, the latest up-and-coming Level 42 fan, was too, and it saddens me that I won't be able to do so. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOUR FACES LOOK LIKE!!!! Anyway, on a brighter note, my wife and I are taking a driving vacation out west to visit some friends and relatives as well as some hiking and 4-wheeling. We'll be travelling through Nebraska, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, California?, Wyoming, South Dakota and back to Nebraska. Kind of a loop. We both need this time together so I'm looking forward to it. As far as a international fest is concerned, I was already planning on coming to England next summer anyway. That's why I mentioned London in the beginning for a possible site. I really think this would be good. Also, does anyone think it's possible to have an L42 Members page? A page that has a picture of everyone so we can all know what we all look like, maybe with some brief profiles or something. I know there are hundreds of digesters but I'm sure we could accommodate. Just an idea. Sorry I'm going to have to miss some of you but since Vicki and I are doing some westward travelling, maybe I can say hello to a few of you along the way. Congratulations on your wedding, Jason. By the way, I read a letter by Emmett Chapman on a newsgroup about an attempted invasion of his company or something to that effect. I can send that to you if you're interested. Right, then! From: Paul Fucito Date: Tue, 17 Jun 1997 10:08:37 -0700 I disagree somewhat that Wang Chung would be a waste of time. After all, compared to Level 42 (in America anyway) they were more successful and well known. Right now they are on the air-waves again with the remix of "Dancehall Days". I think Mark King NEEDS the exposure of a fairly well known band right now. Remember, this is in terms of America. You ask people if they remember Level 42 and they look at you like your speaking another language..mention Wang Chung, that's another story... Level 42 is dead, at least right now...Like the rest of you I PRAY that they will try again and really hit it big again... But I'd rather see Mark King DO something than wait forever to see him release his solo work that has been put on hold for how long now???? Perhaps they will not use him on bass (although they REALLY should) but he can still sing and people WILL recognize his familliar voice. waste of time? Maybe... But so is waiting for anything ele to happen. I doubt Wang Chung would be more than a mere stop for King. it could work... Paul ------------------------------ Subject: Sound on SATS, ILF From: Tony Bassette Date: Tue, 17 Jun 1997 16:52:48 +0200 (MET DST) Hello out there that's nice to lurk for time to time and wake up (it's a beautiful morning) sometimes. Welcome back Lolita and Zaphod hope to meet you again and anybody else of this Digest (I became LevelFestAddict since you two) So I suggest that the ILF should be in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean (no I don't know how to swim forget this location) I think that anywhere in the world could make a nice place because we'll all be there (oh yeah!!!) what about London nobody propose it (;)) or maybe Paris (eheu no no forget Paris tired to see Paris I'd like to see another cool place ...) Regarding the SATS track anyone else notice that the sound use by Wally is the same one used on the Word of a Mountain track's : Mt. Fuji and The Mime and this is not the only one. From: bb007 @ webtv.net (Brad Byers) Date: Tue, 17 Jun 1997 08:22:51 -0700 Hey, if anyone has an extra L42 t-shirt XL bring it to Vegas. I'll pay top dollar! Don't forget, Hoover Dam is a must see too. For those of you that like to bet on baseball, I'll have some locks for ya this weekend. Earth, Wind and Fire are kicking off their European Tour. I saw them yesterday in Gothenburg, Sweden. All of you who know them, dig them or should get to know them, check them out! They started off 1971 and are still just fantastic!! /Farbror Frans - http://www.lls.se/~frans ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V97 #167 From: Savage42 @ aol.com Date: Tue, 17 Jun 1997 19:08:36 -0400 (EDT) > After hearing the idea on the digest and watching the Pop Up Video fest > today I noticed they have a number to call for tips and info... Cool Idea!! Don't know if it'll work, but hey, worth a try. dan ------------------------------ Subject: Whiskey A Go Go Revisited and Live CD Anticipation From: "DOUGASAURUS REX" Date: Tue, 17 Jun 97 19:29:52 PDT Hey you Level Headz: Well, I am getting squeaky with all the anticipation of the new Live CDs, can you hear that? It is deafening where I sit. I recently bought a CD by Johnny Rivers (yeah, the big '60s star) called "Totally Live at the Whisky A Go Go", hey Angel check it out! I love Johnny, especially "Secret Agent Man", but I hate Elvis....people think I ought to like Elvis if I like Johnny, but I never saw much of a connection, especially since Johnny is able to sing....unlike Schmelvis the Pelvis. Hey Joe (Mr Smith) I saw Austin Powers, and I gotta say I am glad we had free passes to see it or else I woulda been annoyed. For those of you wanting to see it, wait for a matinee or it gets to the cheap theatres. Well, that's it from me today....I really wanna go to Vegas, but no can do... have fun, kids. Doug
