I think I say it because Jimmy has been seen in many gigs that I would have expected to see Patitucci earlier in his career. Obviously, the Chick Corea Elektric Band II record. He also has a track on Trace Elliot's "Also Available in Green", called "Haunt Me", which is taken from his solo album. He's also on a few tracks on Stanley Clarke's "East River Drive". That's all I can think of at the moment, but I'll get back with you. Shoot, not that I wouldn't kill to be as well known a bass player as Jimmy Earl is! But I don't see him as extending the expression of bass as an instrument, really. -- -Will "I don't name the streets, I just live on them" ------------------------------ Subject: Baghiti ! The line of which you speak (the funky slap break with 'backwards' > effect), I must assume was BK's. Ahhh, wonderful playing from 1986 ! The solo is in two halves, the first part is straight played slap, the second part is the tape of the first part played backwards. No effects, just backward tape playing. Armand did a good job of live though. I've heard nothing in the UK about Trace Elliot going going gone. I watch with baited monitor. Regards "Do you have any Venezulan Beaver Cheese ?" She's having major heart surgery tomorrow. There should be no "if". Everyone should make the chance to say a prayer for your mom. It's done, my friend... A site for an InternationalLevelFest? Cherry Orchard, Nebraska!!!!! YEEEEEE HAAAAAAA !!!! Actually, the only logical, sensible, forthright, intelligent and righteous place to have one is ... LONDON!!! The world's only TRUE international city!! Actually, DisneyWorld is pretty international too. Since going to Disneyland earlier this year, I know everyone would have a great time at DW. How about NYC? Since two of our most well known digesters live there AND the fact that NYC just received the honor of being the world's safest big city (imagine that!), we can certainly turn the town out!! So my choices are, in no particular order: London Disneyworld New York City Comments? Criticisms? Praises? Flames? Spams? Money? Also, I believe JennCyn said, in a number of digest ago, about updating certain Level 42 videos to fit the 90's. The reason I'm mentioning this is because I saw a blip about Bill Gates on Hard Copy a few days ago about his mega-empire and how he, according to his friends and other sources, wants to be the sole software provider of the world and crush the competition. Now I have nothing against Bill or his products but this guy is more powerful than you could possibly imagine!! I thought that you could re-do 'Micro-Kid' to a montage of Bill Gates' rise to power. The lyrics would fit perfectly! Mr Gates with mega-thoughts He is real, he is here, he is fashionable Mr Gates speaks Microsoft If you hear what he says, it's acceptable. Go back and read the lyrics to this song and tell me that Bill doesn't fit them perfectly, especially the last line of the verse: "And the techno wins the crown". We are ALL being assimulated, slowly but surely. Welcome to the Bill Gates Collective! Right, then! I'm about to head to England for three weeks, leaving two days after the Levelfest in Vegas (ooh, I can feel the jet lag setting in now!). I'll be in London for two weeks doing a course at the University, then have a week to travel (probably sticking to the south, maybe the IOW). I'd appreciate hearing from those of you who are knowledgeable about London and points south concerning record stores, clubs, restaurants, and so on. Thanks! A request for those going to Vegas: would someone be kind enough to bring a copy of the Definitive Biography along? I've never seen it. Same goes for the White Funky. Someone mentioned Steve Winwood getting the groove...well, he did tour with Level 42 in '86, so presumably something rubbed off on him! ;-) My cd purchase of the week: Billy Cobham, Billy's Greatest Hits. A nice sampling of his drumming over the years. Found it for $4 in the bargain bin! Hey Lolita - you mentioned this idea in the hallowed halls of Joe Dafloes - OK - so far it seems like IOW or Amsterdam. Both are Okay with me. Personally East Coast USA would also be okay. Everyone email me with your preferred site - I'll keep score and publish the results in about a week (or two if necessary). Also include in your message if a particular site would be unacceptable for you. marcus @ dunetune.demon.co.uk Later everyone. Sorry that I won't be going with you as planned, but when I changed jobs last month -- for sanity reasons -- my level of discretionary income declined to figures that made additional non-emergency appropriations substantially prohibitive. I'm also making less money. :) Anyhow, I'm wondering if after the Vegas festivities, some of us Digesters from "Cultureburg" (NYC) -- Lolita, Winston, myself and others -- can get together around the July 4 weekend for a little something something. Nothing huge, just a chance to place the face with the E-mail. Let me know. There may be more around the NYC area than we think. (I hope we won't be all Levelled out after Vegas.) BTW -- Zaron, I'm not sure when Swing Out Sister will be in the Motor City and the SOS fan club website doesn't list any appearances there soon. But check on back with it. We could put upto ** 11 hours and 40 minutes** of MPEG3'ed live stuff onto a single disc! (with impressive near-CD quality) > sounds really good, really... (but not as good as MiniDisc of course ;-))))) You need a computer though ... Since most boots their quality isn't so great anyway, no-one would notice the difference... All you need is a Mac, PC, Linux, NeXT or Amiga (free MPEG3 players for all these platforms included on the CDROM of course, in IS09600 format, so everyone can read it, even the Rockridged Mac guys) Just an idea... $5 for nearly 12hours of sheer L42 live stuff in great 44.1 Khz digital stereo quality... I was on leave from military duty in Bosnia (I was in Army Reserve, now am an Air Force Reservist) and saw the album. I had never heard of it, which shows you the lack of American media interest in Level 42. Thank God I found these web sites." Hope for this email: "I hope to connect with other Level 42 fans. I certainly have a great sense of humor. I just don't think that misinformation is funny. It is juvenile to entertain oneself by intentionally misleading others, not to mention an abuse of this esteemed forum. And I was only speaking for myself, thanks - how can you misconstrue my expression of an opinion as an attempt to "speak for Level 42 fans?" Are YOU speaking for everyone as you defend your brother's adolescent mischief? Z. ------------------------------ Subject: Live Disc update From: John Venzon Date: Thu, 12 Jun 97 14:24:05 -0700 Walter (and everyone else), The next disc is really 3 discs that make up the "Live" set. If you paid for more than one disc when you ordered AYGB, please email Matthew Blackmon (Zaphod) and tell him who you paid. I will be putting the masters together and then Zap will be burning all the North American discs. We have a person over on the Europe side of things that will handle buring all the discs for you folks closer to the source of the Level 42 power... (I.O.W. - ground zero!) Now this doesn't mean sending myself or Zap a ton of emails saying "I want one!!" I am (along with Winston) still working on putting the discs together, and we will post when we are ready to start taking orders, so you aren't getting ahead of anyone in line by sending an email now. When the first disc (of three) is ready we'll post who to send the requests to and then we'll start taking orders. We plan on buring all the first disc orders before we start number 2. The three discs are: Disc one: The Digest Concert (All live B-sides from CD Singles) Disc two: Live vinyl and The Prince's Trust performances Disc three: Live Rare - concert recordings by the fans Again, this isn't a 'send your order requests' posting. We'll be doing that soon, but rather if you've paid for future discs already, we want to figure these out before orders start. Send those requests to Zap. My email: jvenzon @ deltanet.com Zap's: zaphod @ iname.com Thanks folks, and hang on.. it's just about ready... John V ------------------------------ Subject: Past and Presence paid list! One final note, the above list is in no particular order- this just happens to be the order things are in the computer. If you have any questions concerning how you can get a copy of Past and Presence, sit on it for a bit! As [spacebar] said, IT'S NOT READY YET! When (and only when) the disc is ready, we'll, correction, I'll post a nice little info page to the digest! If you're looking for info on AYGB, drop me a line RIGHT NOW! The urgency?
