Elson here - I'm *considering* going to the Levelfest, as I see some of ya'll are going, but would like to know if anyone is going on that Friday and coming back Saturday night or early Sunday afternoon. My band has a gig on Sunday night so I must be back in town by 2 p.m. Sunday at the absolute latest. If this fits anyone's plan, and if you'd like to give me a ride or would like to ride with me, please email me. I'd fly there and back, and that would only take an hour or so each way, but can't afford air travel at this time... You, Mr.Z, however, are going to die early from high blood pressure if you 'anger' so easily. What gives YOU the right to speak for Level 42 fans ?? Are you American? I guess so. Green" Organization: The Midi Extreme - http://www.flash.net/~questps/midi.htm Date: Wed, 11 Jun 1997 07:06:07 -0500 Well hey there Levelheads!!!! MIDIS: Just wanted to thank you people for the visits to my website, and many of you took the time to show your appreciation for the L42 music that is there. At this time, I am positive that my site contains the largest group of Level 42 MIDI tunes anywhere on the planet!!! YEAH!!! Many thanks are in order, however, seeing as how I did grab many of these tunes from others' sites. Thanks also to Morgan for the 'quick four' that he sent me. Some have been spruced up a bit, but hey, at least we got 'em. So, the current L42 MIDI project that I am working on is....."THE MACHINE STOPS"!!!! Yesindeedybob!!! This has been quite a project to say the least. I have known the bass line for years, but Mike's keyboards are a whole other story altogether. Plus all the subtle intricities with some obvious Wally input, makes it tougher to put all together. I was so happy when I finally got Phil's drum parts down -- especially that high-hat routine. Man, that was tough!! I am estimating to have this completed and on my site in about 2 weeks. I need to refine a few things and make it as good as it can be. Hope you folks will enjoy it. BOB C: Hey man, still waiting on those midis you said you had. Let me know the status, and if you want to send 'em over. Sure am interested!!! WINSTON: I like your artwork, but also like the idea of letting others have a go at it. Sounds like a plan, so maybe we can gather URLs to peoples' websites that want to display suggested artwork for the project and then have a big DIGEST VOTE!!! Waddaya say? MARK KING UPDATE: Well, it appears that Mark has signed to do a tour with Bananrama on their upcoming reunion project as the bassist. Mark said that he is satisfied with this endeavor, and will "enjoy being on the road again." The tour is expected to sell out every show in Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Romania, Turkey, and Pakistan, and will last a total of two months. The tour will only come to Fargo (ND) as part of their US leg. Meanwhile, since Mark's detachment from promoting Trace Elliot Amplification, he will be endorsing Gorilla Amplifiers instead. Wow, an International Levelfest, wouldn't that be great! In Holland perhaps? I'm sure we Dutchies could organize a great Levelfest for all of you! (Wat denk jij daarvan, Andre?). If a lot of Digestmembers would be able to go to that International Levelfest, we might even get some former Level 42 members over there. Well, Mark King and Mike Lindup would be just fine, I guess. From: WALTFRA @ frmail.frco.com Date: Wed, 11 Jun 1997 09:44:09 -0500 Hi Levelers, Once upon some months ago, we talked about creating our own CD's. So far this project resulted in the AYGB CD. We agreed we'd payd for 3 CD's. So, there are 2 CD's left, which should be used for the Remixes project and the Live CD project. Although I keep pretty good track of the digest, I haven't heard or seen anything on these projects lately. Can someone inform me/us about the status of the projects? Lolita's proposal of an Int. LF is cool. I vote it should be on the Isle of Wight, def THE mecca for L42 fans. Perhaps the European dudes can offer something to the US dudes who wanna come over to England for it??? (cds, t-shirts, hats, or other more Europe-related gifts) The yanks should never forget Europe has so much to offer, ev I would IMMEDIATELY free up some space in my busy business agenda if that ILF would become reality. I also got a black eye in the mosh pit (I was ten feet away from the stage when Gwen came out). I definitely reccomend catching a show there, however if you don't want to stand on the concert floor for three hours--bring a blanket for the terrases, because there are no seats. ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V97 #161 From: DonZipf @ aol.com Date: Wed, 11 Jun 1997 14:13:02 -0400 (EDT) Will... > Now, on the subject of bass splayers who back up bass players, I would > strongly recommend listening to recordings by Armand Sabal-Lecco. Armand Sabal-Lecco is as fine a bassist as they come, Will, and I have seen him live with Paul Simon. But he's not to be found on the Graceland album, as he joined Paul later on, for touring. Baghiti Khumalo, a South African, is responsible for the fine fretless work on "You Can Call Me Al," and the "low" simultaneous bass rhythm, according to the liner-notes, was a six-string bass played by...Paul Simon! The line of which you speak (the funky slap break with 'backwards' effect), I must assume was BK's. Also, I THINK the Eden/SWR connection is that David Eden formerly worked for SWR. He obviously doesn't even come close to the greatest of JP. He does a decent job of keeping a fairly good bottom end but he needs a lot of top work. I'm curious. Strange enough it didn't cost me too much loading time to see the pics.....and that while I'm on the other side of the pond ! One minor thing: I think there is a little too much text on the cover side. Add the text that "shines through" from the inlay and you end up with a lot of text for a CD cover. I'd suggest to trim it a bit. Maybe the "This is Level forty two Live" or the "Brit-funk to perfect pop" or the "Features......" could be deleted. (Not all of it !). Or is this too much against the general ide of making it a retro thing ? But again: well done. Very nice indeedy. > Okay, I still haven't received all the payments for the Vegas hats.
